Turtles of Old Ottawa East and South - early June 2022

Two mother snapping turtles laying eggs and then returning to the waters of the Rideau River ...
The first was laying right beside a nest protector covering another nest laid the previous day. The second nest, the one at the playground, was later re-located by the Canadian Wildlife Federation's Dave and Shannon so that kids won't be stepping on it throughout the summer; with that one, the sand along with the vantage point from the play structure were ideal for seeing the tail trail.
