@GoTestDrive Well your insurance rate is based on the value of your car. Jeep does use some European parts and the GC uses the same frame as the Mercedes but it will cost a lot more to maintain a Mercedes over a jeep.
We have a 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland. The adaptive cruise and blind spot detection are options that you wont know how you got by after using them. I wont buy another new car without them. Normal cruise that doesn't hit the brakes when a car is in front of you feels like a suicide mission after using adaptive - no word of a lie.
Great review. Lot's of info in a short time. You are totally correct about the much better value and better reliability of the Jeep Grand Cherokee than the German 4x4's. You should respond to the Haters that the Jeep Grand Cherokee was the First unibody 4x4 and has been refined over 25 years. Saying it's based on the Mercedes Benz ML platform/unibody is entirely correct, or shouldn't we say it the other way around? (only Daimler wound never let that happen). Also the 2 different 8 speed transmissions are the same excellent ZF units used by Audi, BMW, Range Rover and Jaguar (Bentley as well I think), with Jeep using the correct version for engine power it's mated to. You can pay a lot more for the badge and the smaller, but direct injected 3.5 liter engine in the Benz but you don't get the same amount of interior room and off road capability. Yep. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a great value in a 'real' SUV. I'd get the Gas V6 cuz you can buzz it occasionally to get the power you need, but most of the time it'll be saving you a lot of money on gas and time at the pump. Looking for a white Overland 4x4 with beige interior in California right now……….thanks again.
BMW x5, and Mercedes are 4wd with rear wheel bios. Jeep CAN NEVER BEAT PORSCHE CAYENNE IN PERFORMANCE ON OR OFF ROAD OR BUILT QUALITY but it is an impressive vehicle hands down.
Daniel, I own two Jeeps, a 2014 GC Summit with the EcoDiesel & a 2004 Liberty Renegade. My Liberty has over 120k miles on it and yes I take it off-roading here in interior Alaska (where I live). Outside normal wear and tear, I’ve had no issues with either of my Jeeps. Everyone’s experience may differ, but I’ve had great luck with my Jeeps.
Okay so Im thinking about creating a croatian basketball team. I mean they only play them once in awhile so it wouldn't be that grueling. I guess the CA (Zagreb) bailouts and mabey a hockey team the CA Bare None.
A real good review, but your front about German vehicles and all wheel drive. For example Audi has 40/60 power distribution 40 in the front 60 in the back. Most of the German vehicles come with rear wheel standard. Audi had been eliminated from using their quattro in the race circuits. But never the less 4X4 is completely different from all wheel drive. 4x4 is for all terrain and off-road, where all wheel drive is on road/ gravel designed for superior traction in changing conditions.

Jeep inherited a lot of the transfer technology from Mercedes, in fact with out Mercedes this the Jeep/Crysler brand wouldn't be the same now days. This goes for everything, frames/ shocks, similarities of function in the electronic system.

There is seriously no need for anybody to buy a Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Porche, etc over a jeep, ford, or chevy accept for simply the name. All if them fully loaded like this jeep have the same technology and luxury and your gonna save money in the process. This has everything and goes for $60,000 while a Mercedes with the same features goes for $80,000 or more.

How do you turn on Sport mode? I don't see that option on the transmission dial.
Bill, I own one of these, but I’ve got the 3.0 turbo diesel. To engage sport mode, you toggle between drive & sport mode. It’s quite easy.
