Jeff thank you for sharing this video. I've had my plant for about a year now and just love the way it looks! I just love the exoticism of it.

Thanks Jeff. Great video. Just got some cuttings from a friend last week. Put a few in some colorful pots. They look awesome.

Thank you for the video! So, I have a pencil cactus that is full and healthy and growing constantly all over. Still, within the last month I've noticed branches drying and falling off; the drying seems to start at joints. Dead branches build up in the soil over time. I'm afraid this will gradually increase and I'll lose my favorite plant. It's in a loft sunny East facing window (I believe). I meter before watering and when near dry give it about 16 oz of water until next near dry out. Could you offer any insight as to why my branches may be starting to dry out and fall off?

In our hot AZ summers the color fades to green and colors up as the nights cool down in fall. Best color is in cool weather and full sun. They can take light frosts and blasting desert heat.

Can't get mine to get orange, let alone RED. I am in south Fla. it made it through hurricane Irma. It has been orangeish at times, but not RED. It is now green. HOW do i get it to put out color? I have had it for 3-4 years, it is 3ft tall, in full sun all day, HOT HOT weather, little water, it is growing ,slow like it should, BUT it looks almost like the plain old green one. I could grow that, and have a massive plant FAST.
But I want the Sticks on Fire. I have grown it before here in Ft.laud, and it was almost always RED, but now this one is rarely orange/pinkish, let alone RED.
    Hints to get color????

With the drought in California, ours are stunning. But there should be warnings about the milky sap, Fire sticks, is a good name for them. My husband is in the E.R right now, he got the sap in his eyes. An it burns like FIRE.

The more sun it gets, the more color it gets
