Your point about the raw passion and love for what they do is spot on. She picked up a guitar at the age of 10, so she did this with only six years of playing under her belt. And yes, all of them are extraordinary.
Yeah Man, the Power of Music. It really is something beautiful to witness Skill, Passion and Joy come together in such a way. This performance has made me tear up more than once.
Yes he did a pinch/pop harmonic. He is the master of harmonics on the bass. Mio, the drummer, is great but Miyu, the bassist, and Haruka, the guitarist and composer, are exceptional talents. Haruka is only 4'8" so she usually has risers on stage she can stand on during her solos.
All three of them were still teenagers in this video and already a master of their instruments. I had the pleasure of seeing them last May in NY. They were more polished then, of course but did not lose any of the passion. What an amazing trio.
They are an instrumental prog heavy metal band from Japan, formed in 2014. Not too familiar with their catalog, only heard a couple songs, but they are excellent musicians. Japan has a lot of great bands. you've done Babymetal, LOVEBITES, and now Asterism. A couple more to try , Nemophila and Band Maid. For Nemophila, try Oiran, Dissension, or Adabana. For Band Maid: Thrill, Dice, or Domination. Both bands are all female. (Band Maid and The Warning have met, and are fans of each other) So , you enjoy a good bass? Misa from Band Maid is the woman you want to watch. . And tapping bass players?, see Eugene from the band Jinjer (not Japanese, but worth the watch), try Pisces(live session).
You're certainly not the first person to recommend Nemophila and Band Maid, so I'm sure I'll be checking them out soon. And I'll have to watch Jinjer a little closer; I've seen a couple videos, but was unsurprisingly focused on the singing/screaming.
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks I am glad you enjoyed Asterism. You got me a little misty eyed at the end. I saw Asterism live in NYC last summer. I just happened to be vacationing in NYC with my family when I discovered they would be playing in a small club in the SOHO area. I had to see them, so I gave up seeing a Broadway show with the family and took a fairly short subway ride from the Times Square area where I was staying. The show was free but the small club was still only half full. They only played for 60 minutes but it was a glorious 60 minutes. There was no barrier between the crowd and the stage, so I got to see Haruka play from only 5 or 6 feet away. Haruka did sing during a few songs and she has a nice voice but not a particularly strong voice, at least not then. She is still young and her voice might eventually get close to the music they play. For the next song, I suggest Church live from their studio - ua-cam.com/video/pkiKSBX8JPA/v-deo.html
Thanks for the story. I was actually in the Times Square area last year as well (although I think it was more springtime as I don't remember it being either too hot or too cold). I'd gladly give up a Broadway show to see something like this; I'll need to keep an eye out for the next time I'm there (I can't imagine Asterism will be there, but I'm sure there will be SOME lesser known great band playing nearby). Church will almost certainly be my next Asterism vireaction - thanks!
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks You are very welcome. I have a couple of suggestions for songs by Band-Maid and Nemophila, bot of whom I have seen live. Regarding Band-Maid, they have released some instrumentals that will give you a very good idea of their musicianship. One is for the song Onset, which sadly they didn't play when I saw them live. This is the official live video - ua-cam.com/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/v-deo.html Regarding Nemophila, there are two official live videos of them performing the song Oiran. I prefer the first of the two since it was the second video I saw of them (my introduction was a video of their cover of Iron Maiden's Aces High, which blew me away). The second video is also excellent but I think the first shows off their personalities more. The video was filmed a music festival dedicated to female Japanese artists. Because of covid, the event could only be livestreamed. Because of no crowd, the band members did some mugging for the camera. Their joy of actually getting to perform on stage, even without a crowd, is very evident - ua-cam.com/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/v-deo.html
Love this band. Hal-Ca (16) started playing at 10 and had homework to do after this set. Miyu(17) is playing a one of a kind custom made for him ESP bass and his brother Mio (19) on drums keeps these 2 beasts in check during each song. They were independent and fan supported until recently and crowd funded their 1st album (write, arrange and play their own fusion of Metal/Rock/Jazz). She was born to be a rock star, my husband who is a Hendrix fanatic (saw him LIVE twice) says she has that Hendrix vibe. Small club due to age and lack of fanbase at the time and raw fan cam recording BUT the insane talent is clearly there!!!! Glad you gave them a listen.
I'm not ashamed to say it, but Hal-Ca is my favorite guitarist in the world right now. Noone else, despite all those immensely talented artists around, gives me that feel, emotion and awe that I get listening to her. Please listen to their song "Church" next, it hits me even more in the feels every time I'm hearing it.
Can you believe Hal-Ca (lead guitarist) was only 16 at that point in time ? She picked up the guitar when she was 10 and she was only playing for 6 years at that point in time.
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks In 2014, Haruka attended a music competition at age 12 as a solo guitarist. An official with the competition had the inspired idea to put them together. The brothers might have been hesitant at first but when they saw Haruka play, they agreed that they should form an instrumental trio. The rest is history still being written.

There are also a few clips from their one tour in the U.S., when they played Austin and Los Angeles. From the start, they have written most of their own music, covering a wide range of styles. While i personally kinda like the new album, most deffo prefer the previous stuff.
I've heard a couple of people say that about instrumental vs. voice. I get it; when I listen to the voice stuff I'll just try not to compare them too much. Sometimes you've just got to think of it as a different band (like I had to do with Rush when they started using a lot of synth, or Pink Floyd once Roger Waters left)
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks the musicality is still 100% there ; just more "mainstream" (i.e., traditional radio-style song structures). don't know if it's gonna be a permanent change , or just some experimentation (also don't know how much it has to do with recently signing with Sony). FYI: their latest album, Decide (and by extension, the 2 EPs that compose that one - A-Side and B-Side) has all vocal tracks (i think it's the 3 most recent videos on their channel are from that one) ; but everything else is instrumentals (aside from a couple of collabs ; but that's separate).
I'm all for them trying anything/everything to try to gain some traction.
The age-old battle about selling your soul to the corp execs for an increased audience. Lots of pros and cons there; I hope both the musicians and the music make it through reasonably unscathed.
@@Double_J_48629 Yeah these guys have had trouble finding an audience. They are still playing small clubs and festivals. The US tour was a real disappointment - I mean great to see them (especially the street performances) but a shame they had to make their two real shows free. I'd sure like to see them get more attention.
Yes, it's a very odd and unfortunate thing when you see really talented people, and they just can't get the break they should.
