I've been 2 hours under my 96 ford crown, I have never ever had such a hard time removing a starter. I finally gave up and here I am. I am a back yard auto type of guy, and I have been doing my own cars way back when, I am now years old 75 and this starter is kicking my BUTT !!!!.... I hope what I seen you do works for me.... Thanks.......
Having watched this video in it's entirety I can now say I'm an expert at this job. But only because of your complete and easy to understand tutorial. :) That old starter lasted a long time.
I have to put a starter in my 97 Grand Marquis and it gave me a little heartburn so i looked up and found your video. I have seen you before. I grew up in Jersey City NJ so i know you are either from New Jersey or New York. I am 69 years old and still crawling under cars. I probably save several thousand dollars a year doing my own repair and preventive maintenance. When i was young i took automotive classes at Lincoln Tech in Union NJ. Back then I had a 70 1/2 Camaro i would fool around with changing crank, pistons, heads, cam to go a little faster. I wish i still had that car today.
Thanks for your video. I was able to diagnose and easily replace the starter on my Lincoln Town Car by following your steps. It had the same problem as the one in your video. The wire going from the solenoid to the motor was completely corroded.
Good video. I have had to put several starters on my V8 Ford over the years. No fun laying in driveway raining or very cold outside. Had to keep it running for the family. Thanks for your attention to detail .
I replaced my starter and it's doing the same thing just whining making a strange sound once I crank so what else can it be...I have no issues with battery or alternator
My crown Vic sounds the same way, I got the starter checked, it was bad, so I threw a new one in but I did not do anything with the wires, It still will not start, could it be the wires???
I dont even hear the loud click like that. I only hear the relay faint click and using a remote starter trigger doesnt even do anything.. no spark at battery either.. i cleaned all grounds also.. im gona try and see if its the ignition box in the steeri g column
Great video! I just did this and made a UA-cam video on it for my channel. I wish I would have come across your vide 1st. Probably would have save me a lot of cursing.
Some reason I couldn’t get the extension and 1 and 1/2” extension with the socket wrench to fit in that area. It was too long by a 1/4”. I had to use a long extension with another smaller extension with a hinged extension to reach the bolt from the other side of that damn frame that’s in the way.... my Ford had a brace or something where your arm was that blocked it just enough no to work. Ford’s....😒

Hahaha some how I think you can probably do this with your eyes closed.

Actually I also grew up in J.C. heights. Where are you from in J.C? Don't answer on UA-cam use my email instead jimthecarguy1@gmail.com it is safer.

I been watching you for years you do good work
Thank you I appreciate that
Thank you Jim, this video got me back on the road.
Great video jim as always
I'm going to use silicone and cover that wire that is prone to oxidation. Thank you for your video. Very helpful 👍
Mine does this, but it doesn't even make the knock sound.

You came a month too late for me, I did get the job done however since Tires Plus wanted $952 to replace the starter on 2003 Honda CR-V.
What if I’m not getting no click the car is not trying to turn over

Please please help me I have problem gear light and check engine lights not showing avalone 2006
Did they both fail at the same time?
Can i ask if you have a bad earth wire would the interior light dim as you crank ?
It is possible a bad contact both on the positive or the negative can cause the lights to dim.
@@jimthecarguy thanks
My 2004 Lincoln town car doesnt even click when cranking ?
Is your battery ok?
That top bolt was a bastard thanks for the schooling.
My don't do anything and have no clicking and have a new battery in it

Ha ha - You were making me nervous poking that screwdriver so near the chassis.
Thank you for your input and for watching.
Do all starters have to grounded at the starter itself. A 99 Grand Marquis is not.
All starters are grounded once they are bolted to the engine.

Great video! Too bad that road salt hasn't been kind to the car
That is for sure the salt kill almost everything on a car.
Who can I contact u
Great video thanks for sharing. Salt is not good for cars in this area. Stay well & safe my friend.
Thanks 👍
Good job Jim bob 👍
Glad you enjoyed
Not as bad as some starters to remove but not the easiest either.
Thanks for watching.
Wow that road salt hasn't been kind to that vehicle what so ever
Yeah. It’s either the starter is bad or the engine is locked up
Thanks for watching.
Take a socket and a breaker bar and turn the crank at the front of the engine, if it moves it's not seized!
Please please I am waiting
