Such an underrated automotive UA-cam channel. These newer generation porsches are brilliant and I’m sure they’re worth the money but I could never justify it.
Enjoyed the video. I find my 981 Spyder is every bit as quick on track as a GT4. I’m on standard tyres and at my last 2 Knockhill Porsche track days it’s been quicker.
I often get asked by the GT4 owners if my car has been modified, which I reply yes it’s been ceramic coated. I’ve a 718 Spyder PDK arriving in 2021 and expect it to be a weapon on track. I’ll video both Spyder back to back and upload them to highlight the differences.

@@JBthemanwithcars it’s amazing so far! I haven’t driven anything like it that’s for sure. You’ll love that 600lt! I had a 570GT a few years ago and absolutely loved it.
Honestly, with those times, they're pretty much identical. I originally wanted the GT4, but after trying both, I opted for the Spyder. I use it as my weekend daily, and I damn never regretted that decision. It's so much more usable cuz I rarely track. You may lose that 1 second, but in terms of comfort, ease of use, and looks, it's 3 seconds ahead of the GT4.
Yep. Previous gen 918 Spyder was different than the GT4 suspension-wise.
Now the 718 Spyder and GT4 are identical vehicles. In fact the Spyder I think is slightly lighter.
Nice review! The 981 Spyder is an amazing car....I have one as well and I love it! Beautiful silhouette, great handling and one of the best exhaust notes ever!

@@888mf4 Yes, amazing! I agree with also with your comment on the steering (it used to be my favorite one in terms of steering feeling/response, till I added a Giulia Quadrifoglio to the garage...)
Need to compare 981 spyder and 718 spyder with the same tyre... The 981 spyder is more fun and also the weight compared to the 718...
Fantastic video! Shocked how close the Spyder was to the GT4. Stick a Spyder on Cup 2’s and it really would be neck and neck
interesting. and thats a non GT spyder. it would be interesting to see how close the 718 variants are.
based on what i saw here, id go with the boxster. taking the roof off really transforms a car

Yes, in ‘sport plus’ both rev match. Switch to ‘sport’ and it just turns it off, nothing else is changed
I love the Spyder. Mine is virtually the same exact spec color for color. Mark, I noticed your Spyder center position leather stripe on your steering wheel is blue. Is that easily changeable? Mine is black.
As an owner of them both, 981 GT4 and Boxster Spyder, this result didn’t surprice me at all. Ditch those 18-way Comfort seats from the B. Spyder (mine has buckets) and throw in similar tyres (the GT4’s tyres may have been a bit worn, but they are nevertheless the Michelin Cup 2s, where as the Spyder has regular sport tyres (Pirellis as standard), the 0,6 s. difference in lap time would have been other way around. About the Spyder sounding better (exhaustwise) than the GT4: yes, over 4 years I’ve been thinking that is there something wrong with my GT4’s exhaust, because the Spyder sound even (so much!) better. They should have every same exhaust bits, the GT4 and the Spyder, but I guess Porsche has done something differently between the two cars. 981 Spyder is the king. GT4 does not fall far.

Brilliant series this, and was really great to see these two put around the track having just bought a Spyder! Still might have to come and take part in the next series, if you'll have a shonky old Z4 on the show :D

Is it possible that maybe by using the same michelin cup tires as the gt4 could be faster?.
It might be closer, but the Cup 2’s on the GT4 were quite worn compared to nearly new Pirelli’s on the Spyder
Possible, but put the same new Cup tyres on the Spyder, and I doubt very much there would be anything in it.
