Kay Yu and the Devs have adamantly refused monetizing the game because its more of a passion game than an actual game project with deadlines. Also, if you want to support the dev, watch and support an upcoming anime show that he worked as an animator.
I just checked out the dev's past works and apparently, he was a key animator on several episodes of anime like Sword Art Online (1 episode), Castlevania (2 episodes), Boruto (8 episodes), and most recently Mushoku Tensei (4 episodes). Also worked on videogames like River City Girls and Shantae. Also the upcoming anime he worked on is called 'Onimai' for short.
I do like that they're treating it as a passion project because once it becomes work often times getting it done sooner then later overtakes all other aspects of it.
To note. Watching the anime they were involved with as support really only works in the original country of release with global platforms like Netflix being an outlier. But even then as animations are a niche they won't pull in big numbers and with Netflix having screwed it's investment they're cutting back on those globally. The reason why only viewership from the country of origin matters is because of the twice removed effect of licensing outside of the country as these happen prior to the actual show appearing overseas and the money being held by the studio and execs rather than returning to the animator. It might help with the animation distributor (edit: Accidentally hit submit before being done) or publisher but the actual animators aren't going to get much better. Look instead to public charities aimed at animators. There's a reason why buying Crunchyroll subscription hasn't at all helped any animators in the past years and the recent release of articles showing the poor state of employees in those fields including the poor pay of translators in Crunchyroll itself (which can explain some suspicious choice mistranslation or complete failure of translation that's being categorized as "creative localization" including those in dubbing companies). It's because the money doesn't go where you think it is, they just let that lie propagate because it lets them pocket more money. So if you wanna support Kay Yu. Good luck. At the very least be chill to em. Edit 2: There's almost no such thing as supporting a person specifically through passive self enjoyment. Cover should license the game under a profit sharing plan with the devs. It's just too well made and the QA is so spot on, I haven't really seen any bugs nor serious lags. These dudes are really good
That comes at some disadvantages though. If they become officially under Cover then they'll be subject to some restrictions. If they remain separated, the Devs can do whatever they want, including adding in Rushia, Aloe, Coco and even HoloStars if they want to.
The last time I felt guilty for playing a free game was Stardew Valley (I cracked it at first, bought it at full price after 10 hours), and this is a very strong second. I just wanna give them the fruit of their efforts because 3 hours stuck in this game felt so fun
Well, there are 2 things to keep in mind when you find such a gem of a game. 1- The game might be free or cost next to nothing, the game dev will most certainly have a patreon or something of the sort where you can give them money to support and encourage them. Truth be told, there is a very high chance they'll end up earning more that way than by selling the game at a higher price as people will give them what they can and feel the game deserve. 2- Even if they do not have a patreon or anything of the sort, the game isn't a waste of time for them in any shape or form. First of all, it is done with passion, it is very apparent. If people love their game, they will be very happy about it. But they earn something else entirely : experience. They built a fully fonctional game with a very limited amount of bugs (no game is completely bug free after all) and the time they invested in coding that game will help them in the next game they will produce. Since the game was so well received, if they ever decde to sell the next one, they'll already have a fan base who will buy it, try it and, if they like it, recommend it to many more players. They will end up earning even more that way than they would have otherwise, so even a free game could very well end up very positively for them.
The thing about passion projects is that the moment you take money from others, you will start to feel obligated towards finishing, updating and even fixing the game. That wouldn't be fun anymore.
the thing is Kay yu can monetize his game indirectly by using patreon or equivalent, just mention kay yu have patreon (caveat not mentioning of holocure perk etc just ka yu itself) and people gonna donate it to kay yu and it still not broken the fair use, just you make a good game so i donate without getting anything. yet mutiple time said no need to donate this is just passion project. but personaly i think kay yu did get something, a "reputation" sometime reputation can be more valuable than any monetary gain.

Trust in people, not in mega corporations like EA. That is how I discovered Amanita Design, Supergiant Games, Mimimi Games and ConcernedApe.
Making this free and so easily accessible is also a great way to put their names out there even more. Yes the devs already have their jobs, but there's no crime in boosting your overall portfolio, which will in turn be beneficial for them in the long run, which is very important especially in creative fields like these.
I honestly feel like the game is at such a high level that Cover should consider buying the rights pay them to work on it full-time. I heard that the art is so good because it's done by one of the key animators for the Mushoku Tensei anime
Kay Yu, tbh since he went to work on this game to RELAX, and he being a Career Animator and Artist (Mushoku, SAO, Castlevania 'anime', Q MV by Calli and Gura...) I wonder what part of the art or Game making he worked at
The keyword is "licensing rights". Cover, like most companies, turns a blind eye to everything that falls under free fan-art (when legally, they have the right to shut it down). But if you were to charge money for it, they'd have to step in to not create a legal precedent that someone can make money off of their IP... (Well, that and once you charge money it becomes a job, with all the expectations and legal pressures, dampening your enjoyment working on it.)
Honestly it's because best girl gathered so many entertaining talents together that creative people want to put the best fan content together to share their love of these talents. So many talented artists, coders, animators, musicians and writers pouring their love into projects like this is not so surprising.
Makes you think. Not everything is about money. This game is just pure passion and love from the devs. Massive respect especially in this hustle culture environment that we live in. Really inspiring.
Call me halu (delusional). But if I ever made an Souslborne and MGR-like game consisting with only boss battles where you fight the Holomems including other VTubers and publish it on Steam. I'd make it free too, cuz my ass ain't about to get sued.
the only reason is copyright, and since jp has been more strict with copyright i doubt he gonna sell the game unless he enter a partnership or a contract with clover tho
Cover should consider making the game official if they and the devs can come to an agreement; maybe keeping the base game free and selling a 'premium' version with voices included, or selling future character packs, etc. If the devs are really committed to pushing through all of the Hololive generations, they've got a lot of work cut out and I think it only fair they see some compensation given how popular the game ended up being. Evil God Korone is an official collab, and with a game this polished Cover would be daft not to arrange something.
First of all he can't make it payable bcs it's unofficial game that feature hololive member. 2nd if he want to make it payable he need to reach cover staff/yagoo himself to ask a permission so he can put some provit on the game which mean some of the provit will go to the cover corp, bcs if he make it payable without asking some permission from cover he can be sued.
I was just thinking about how Holocure does some stuff better than Vampire Survivors, like with unique character weapons and mechanics that make each character distinctive but also match their personality/lore. Could use better hit boxes though.
@@JayceCH. Yeah no shit, that's how sub-genres work. VS is derivative of MS, HC is derivative of both. Gameplay is honestly much better in HC though, VS becomes a literal idle game halfway through every run and then you just sit there for 15 minutes, staring at the lightshow.
Im guessing its crowd funded or maybe its receiving revenue from the player count, or maybe its just a really good passion project, its either that or they have plans to monetize it in the future once they finish the game when it comes to content, either way its free real estate right now so better hop to it
IIRC, it's purely a passion project with Kay Yu being pretty firm about not receiving money from fans who wanted a way to pay/support, since it would start feeling more like a job than a passion project.
It isn't crowdfunded nor receiving revenue from player count. The person who made the game just really loves Hololive, and it's also the same person who made Gura x Calli MV for Q (iirc).
Risk in return, and being sued by Vampire Survivors in return, Vampire Survivors devs will not allowed the members stream their game like other companies
It's flattering that people would be willing to pay for this game and it deserves it, but people shouldn't really push it, it's a passion project made out of love, it would be rude to them.
If the game is on sale, the Dev team will get sue by Cover & vampire survivor ~ Still, great respect to Kay yu team, for their amazing work on this game and keep updating it
Vampire survivors would never sue. There has been games like it for for years. Vampire survivors just happened to get really popular. It's like how pubg wanted to sue Fornite for ripping off battle royal...but it was called off because other games used it before pubg.

There is now way they would get sued. Hololive's fanwork guidlines are a bit iffy when it comes to monetizing such works, as they ask that you not to try and make a living off it but also say they won't interfere with monetization.

I'm interested that game you mentioned. Mind dropping a name so I can check it out?
@@Drake_Grazer there are many examples like DD Literature Club, Helltaker, etc. But the specific game I was mentioning was Samorost 3.
@@Drake_Grazer Stardew Valley made by ConcernedApe
For anyone who likes to support the devs, you can try and check out their other games. "20 Minutes Till Dawn" is also good.
yea srsly holocure team are legend
Awesome music, great content (especially for hololive fans), great pixel art.
Kay Yu, tbh since he went to work on this game to RELAX, and he being a Career Animator and Artist (Mushoku, SAO, Castlevania 'anime', Q MV by Calli and Gura...) I wonder what part of the art or Game making he worked at
Can't really monetize it since its Cover's IP.
Put up the latest holo songs and covers for the ads
The best thing the dev could do to earn is by promoting like his kickstarter or Patreon for upcoming updates
One word: love
Just like most hololive concerts are free
Honestly it's because best girl gathered so many entertaining talents together that creative people want to put the best fan content together to share their love of these talents. So many talented artists, coders, animators, musicians and writers pouring their love into projects like this is not so surprising.
Makes you think. Not everything is about money. This game is just pure passion and love from the devs. Massive respect especially in this hustle culture environment that we live in. Really inspiring.
Games, Comics, Anime and Manga, entertainment in GENERAL takes more PASSION than mere Cold Calculated Expertise.
from fans to the fans game
Call me halu (delusional).
But if I ever made an Souslborne and MGR-like game consisting with only boss battles where you fight the Holomems including other VTubers and publish it on Steam.
I'd make it free too, cuz my ass ain't about to get sued.
@sarah mq
Yeah, but it's basic Indonesian slang.
@sarah mq it’s short for “hallucination” I THINK
IM NOT SURE, DON’T WUOTE ME ON THIS
Eyyy
@@tl1326 yeah but it mean delusional xD
If you were going to say the word in English anyway in brackets why even include the non-English word ???
They should put ads in that direct it to the girl's channels. Hell yeah
the only reason is copyright, and since jp has been more strict with copyright i doubt he gonna sell the game unless he enter a partnership or a contract with clover tho
Holofans: Hello fellow Hololive fans !
People who just want to play Vampire Survive for free: You bet I am !
Being free is the best part for me
Devs: pekora said we can charge! She's in charge right?
The love for all the Holomem
They are are the best!
I really hope the creator holocure he put he game on steam so we can support the game
I know how Pekora feels.
well it's a fan made it's like taking advantage of the company if they made this game needs to be bought
Rule #1 of fangames: You DON'T charge for them.
Unless you're a Touhou fangame. In that case just don't go around saying your game is official.
You can't get ads in games if your wifi sucks!😏
😭😭😭
I was just thinking about how Holocure does some stuff better than Vampire Survivors, like with unique character weapons and mechanics that make each character distinctive but also match their personality/lore. Could use better hit boxes though.
It doesnt just based on VS, its also inspired by magic survival. Both combine really have good mechanic for the game
Its derivative as heck.
@@JayceCH. Yeah no shit, that's how sub-genres work. VS is derivative of MS, HC is derivative of both.
Gameplay is honestly much better in HC though, VS becomes a literal idle game halfway through every run and then you just sit there for 15 minutes, staring at the lightshow.
Interesting how she would react if she discovered Warframe.
Made by the fans for the fans and idols
Im guessing its crowd funded or maybe its receiving revenue from the player count, or maybe its just a really good passion project, its either that or they have plans to monetize it in the future once they finish the game when it comes to content, either way its free real estate right now so better hop to it
IIRC, it's purely a passion project with Kay Yu being pretty firm about not receiving money from fans who wanted a way to pay/support, since it would start feeling more like a job than a passion project.
Kay Yu strictly said that they want nothing in return but our joy in playing their game.
That's it.
It isn't crowdfunded nor receiving revenue from player count. The person who made the game just really loves Hololive, and it's also the same person who made Gura x Calli MV for Q (iirc).
i think i heard that they want it free soo that they can do whatever they want with it, and cover can't limit whoever they want to put in it
@@prowse321 we will only know the direction of the dev when he make 3rd gen playable if he add coco or not.
Cover should really just buy the game at this point
The dev is working on river city girls right?
The power of SIMMPPPPPP i guess
They should collaborate with cover and make profits, this is easily half million usd revenue on steam.
Risk in return, and being sued by Vampire Survivors in return, Vampire Survivors devs will not allowed the members stream their game like other companies
@@alvinjan3486 VS invented absolutely nothing, there are dozens of games like this already making money.
Also I will not mention Castlevania
She wouldn’t believe what happen if they actually try to make money off of it tho
At least the people that did it could add it at their CV if they want to search for a job on a game company.
Kay is famous so when he said he did it for passion, it as he said then.
Maybe Cover could make a donation to the devs.
What a chad
Cover should officially partner/contract with them so they can charge a few bucks for it and put it on steam and mobile
Sadly Kay yu has to abide by the guidelines of Cover not to get sued.
cover would bonk them if they charge it
the only way for them to have revenue is from hololive policy if they want to commission the game developer to make another game
"They should giving ads"
Stop giving them ideas !
They will only have ads if they are monetized I think
Not sure what Pekora is talking about. The whole game is an ad - for Hololive.
It's flattering that people would be willing to pay for this game and it deserves it, but people shouldn't really push it, it's a passion project made out of love, it would be rude to them.
fr, man, holofangames like these are so fun, reminds me of smol ame, so basic, but fun nontheless
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly is like that too
talk to yago about them not being able to charge ......
Imagine this game produce by EA.. There will ton of micro transaction..
If it was Nintendo then it would be 60$
Ikr
If the game is on sale, the Dev team will get sue by Cover & vampire survivor ~
Still, great respect to Kay yu team, for their amazing work on this game and keep updating it
Vampire survivors would never sue. There has been games like it for for years. Vampire survivors just happened to get really popular. It's like how pubg wanted to sue Fornite for ripping off battle royal...but it was called off because other games used it before pubg.
Deltarune is also free you know
well, first 2 chapters that ix
true
compared to other Vampire Survivor clone, Holocure so far the best.
in term of artstyle.
most of them just jumping PNG
the only unique one probably Korone sponsored stream, that game have multiplayer mode
As long as it remains a fan project, kaichou and rushia can appear there without anyone stopping it from happening.
doubt that happens. i think this is more of a play at getting bought out by hololive and then working for them.
Kaichou still has a good rep with cover
Rushia doesn't.
pretty sure even if it was an official project they could still add them. coco, definitely i think they would add her, rushia is a little more doubtful, mano aloe maybe (but it would hard to think of references for her), but hitomi chris wouldn't happen either way 🤷
@@doggosuki they devs may don't know about codename H.C
@@doggosuki If I recall correctly, the Headphones item is a Mano Aloe ref.
"It's not about the money, it's about sending the massage."
~Holocure devs, probably
Pekora: "Aren't they doing everything without making any profits?"
FOSS devs: pain peko
I know the game isn't FOSS, but maybe they would release the source at some point.
it's can't be monetize because it have other game copyright..
No, Same genre different code like PUBG and Apex
im sure they wish they could monetize it without getting sued lol
I know the dev isn't allowed to sell the game or profit off of cover IP but do they have an unrelated patreon people could donate too?
I don't know if it will hurt or benefit but Cover should really buy the game and make it official. Add voice or music or something official into the game.
So sad the devs don't want to port it anywhere, I'd happily pay for a switch port
It's not official hololive of course it's free. Or else they gonna get sued. Lol
This game is probably used as marketing for their next original games or other products or to promote their talent. The dev is really talented. I remember they did worked with Studio Bind.
There is now way they would get sued. Hololive's fanwork guidlines are a bit iffy when it comes to monetizing such works, as they ask that you not to try and make a living off it but also say they won't interfere with monetization.
And Holocure has one programmer only,i mean the game is kinda simple but they manage to do that well
Game Maker be making Coding work not as stressful.....
Holocure is a nice game but have you played yagoo's pingpong game too?
It's free cause it's a passion project but I hope she realizes that even IF rhey wanted to monetize it, that cover wouldn't allow them to unless they made a deal with cover which is really hard to do from the west especially as a small group of indie devs
"They just genuinely want people to enjoy the game"
if only there were more companies like that, am i right?
