Bahn frei!, Polka schnell, Op. 45 - Eduard Strauss

"Clear the Track!". On 17 February 1869, the workers and employees of k.k. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn held a ball in the Dianasaal on the Danube (today: Danube Canal).
At the head of the musicians appeared the youngest of the Strauss brothers, this time alone. Otherwise, he usually conducted alternately with Josef and Johann. But this also gave him the opportunity to come up with a dedication composition for the ball organizers. He proudly wrote a fast polka with characteristic of railway operations: "clear track!". It is initiated with a signal and comes so fast that one should think that the Edi was far ahead of his time: the trains of the Nordbahn reached a speed as fast as he had set with his polka. The Polka "Bahn frei!" Was Edi's first "hit". The particular orchestration of this recording gives the listener the sensation of being aboard of a speeding-up locomotive!
