It's amazing to see how the sport has changed into something new but still have the same vibe and essence as it is before. That's the thing that made me fell in love with the sport. Truly a sport like no other❤️
Probably this video is digitaly remastered... Currently we have the same technical quality from top volleyball events, which can not be watched without slow motion replays.... There is however one significant difference - the colour the ball.... Hope that also older World championships could be improved by the same way by FIVB and presented....

Regla Bell was really the best player in the 1996 Olympics. I know a lot Mireya Luis fans like to think the Mireya was the one, but watching all the matches leading up to the Gold Medal match, Regla Bell was totally unstoppable, she was a sniper on the court!
@@carolinalamas1572 I have just watched semifinals. Bell was tremendous in the first three sets. In fourth set she was bad, two service errors and then she was blocked three times in a row. Then she was replaced by Gato. Once she came back at the end of the fourth, she was good again. With 13-13 the score and brazil on the verge of winning, Bell made two serves and Cuba won two crucial points for a 15-13 win. Overall, she was the best player on 1996 olympics
China is really a powerhouse team in women's volleyball. I've never seen them field a weak team in all the international tournaments that I've watched. Hoping to see the resurgence of Cuba soon! Their young players have potential

The Quality of the VIDEO is just Insane knowing that this 1996. More than 20 years ago. Just want to say the players are more VERSATILE because they can play all position, They can also receive and set. You can see it's about strenght and power. Nowadays it's more of SPEED, Combination plays, Pipe Attack and more more rules in volleyball which lead to error and killing momentum
Though this match ended in 4 sets, it was still a very close and exciting match! It was Speed (China) versus Power (Cuba). Both teams are my favorites!!

and versatile.. This time there was not so strick specialisation as nowadays... All players had to be able to do reception, both Cuban setters were able to attack... On other hand the play was slower, and these two teams avoided the progressive elements. However this "progress" and change for the colour ball, made volleyball boring, one pattern game, difficult to follow on screens...Unfortunately we could see minimum interesting front line combinations see 2:05:01 , 2:06:31. Chinese setter was poor on blocks. Moreover when she was in a front line, they attacked only with 2 spikers, no BCAs...This was main difference.. Result - positive Cuban blocks.. Lang Ping - a coach did not react on that at all...

This is the first time I saw this match between China and Cuba and wow so much had changed since then in terms of the rules of volleyball and how it is played nowadays. There is no doubt this was the height of Cuba's glorious career as the best women's volleyball team during its time. I just feel sad that Cuba has not continued its winning ways but then again even if it tries to get back to its glory, other countries of the world have caught up with them and even surpassed the Cuban skills as volleyball players. Time will tell whether Cuba will rejuvenate its athletic program overall.

Mireya não tinha tanta potencia assim não; atualmente tem jogadoras muito mais fortes. O diferencial dela era a impulsão. Entretanto, mesmo sendo a melhor jogadora foi também a mais antidesportiva.

The Cuban spikers looked unstoppable in this 1996 Olympic final contest for the gold at Atlanta . China their opponents were outplayed and outclassed and Cuba then were at their peak of powers.They would win the gold again in Sydney Australia in 2000.
mireya is not just great spiker but she's the one hus fueling up her team u can hear her scream here in this match so her teammates will remain attentive and never drop their energy, she is really the number one player of all time.

Agreed. Players nowadays are more specialized because introduction of liberos.

SE VIO a los 2 entrenadores pero predomino el mejor del siglo Eugenio George que en los momentos precisos alentó a sus jugadoras... como dijo alguien MIRELLA LUIS supo liderar a las victorias como jugadora y entrenadora... Dos REGLAS tenia cuba imsuperables y una FERNANDEZ demostrando que tenia Cuba una artilleria escondida a futuro... ESPERE 24 AÑOS para decir lo mejor de Cuba LAS MORENAS DEL CARIBE....
