Master P explains No Limit Record's business formula (Rap City 1997)

- "Some people just jump into the game and they want to sell millions of records. First you gotta sell 5 or 10 records."
Amazing that the formula that P explains on this clip is still working to this day with labels like Cash Money/Young Money. Say what you want, P was a smart businessman for the most "part.
Always know for being the biggest exaggerator in hip-hop history, P says that Goodie Mob, Westside Connection, Uncle Luke and even Total (yes the R&B group from Bad Boy Entertainment) would be on the I'm Bout It soundtrack. We all know none of those occured.
For all you young niggas that's tryna come up as a rapper, producer, or business man y'all better pay attention to this knowledge and wisdom. One day these type of videos will be worth more than gold.
u crazy.. Master P's influence is still being felt today... this generation of rappers remaking P's old hits all the time... and all these new rappers signing 360 deals, selling their soul to corporate giants, while P tried to teach them how to keep 85%... Master P is a pioneer and he's the hardest rapper of his generation. He didn't care about Billboard or radio airplay... he made sure he was #1 in the streets and he DID THAT! #NOLIMITFOREVER
No Limit Forever
I think Master P and E40 wrote the blueprint on raping record labels.
@@oaklandsoldier5920 lol prolly :)
Already kno 💯
he took a city bus and made it a tour bus = Master P
P change the rap game for real he taught niggas how to get paid the right way! #Respect
no business degree, but a hell of a business man. He figured the it out for himself, that makes a smart man. There are people with degrees who don't know how to gauge demand for a product without having to spend the money first. He simply watched what was selling, and gave the people exactly what they already wanted.
College degree teach you about your field and give you a certificate of approval to show people you know what you doing. But college don't teach common sense, knowledge nor wisdom
tswagg504 truuuuu
@102973712063509641081 true. I'm in business school, and it's 90% memorization....if you have the time to memorize it, you'll get an A.....now engineering classes, those required real intelligence...you had to figure out what the problem was, then solve it.
mikeworld39 He didn't have it during this period though....mid/late 90s.
Bruh, that's a community college. That isn't a real business degree. It's nowhere near as strenuous as an accredited 4 year degree. I've been to community college and university; those places are diploma mills........I was talking about a bachelor's degree, not an associates.
Master P -- legendary status. This is classic 90s Hip Hop.
he did this before the internet!
Sure rite! This generation today won't understand
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
p is a smart dude. First you gotta sell 5 or 10 albums before you can sell a million! these new cats don't under that shit. Classic shit

They can say whatever they want about P not helping C with his legal situation. But this man was not selfish. Every time he spoke about No Limit he always used the word (we)

P is definitely a legend as far as hip hop business being from the south
He showed everyone the blueprint
I remember this era in the90s
East vs West controversy days when the south was overlooked
Rip Tupac also
This was when the south was slightly starting to get a little shine to before the early 2000s with Ludacris, TI., Paul wall, chamillionare n dem to. P was pushing hard for south to get recognized after Andre from OutKast said the south got something to say at the source awards.

FUN FACTS:
Although Westside Connection wasn't on I'm Bout It Soundtrack, Mack 10 did a appearance in the I'm Bout It movie. Ice Cube and Mack 10 both got a solo song on I Got The Hook Up Soundtrack years later.
Jaguar Wright said Kima from Total and Master P were dating back in the day, so that a song might came about.
When did Jaguar say that ?
I believe Joe thought this was a joke or that the No Limit camp would not last long - over 23 years later No Limit is still standing and I believe that Romeo is about to do big things like his pops did
Oh yea! I enjoy the WEtv show. GROWING UP HIP HOP.
why would anyone press thumpsdown on a video thats helping people who do not have a major deal to get their gifts out there
Jealousy envy
dude was worth over 600mil$ in '97
Low key, I think P is worth over a billion today. P too smart about his money.

@@black_wall_st_will_rise_ag4632 Very true. P is a low key billionaire. He lay low because the more money, more problems.
600 million??? That's hard to believe, but I would say around this time he was more worth 60 million
You know this was years ago when DKNY is being rocked. I remember wearing her too lol :)
I remember these days....waaayyyyy before the storm this is when shit was so fun to be here!
That's the truest shit I heard about rappers tryna make it. "People wanna jump in a sell a million records. First you gotta sell 5 or 10"
I have ALLLLLLWAAAYYYYSSS been a fan of Master P (the whole No Limit Records generation PERIOD). I have EVERY LAST ONE of No Limit Records excluding any cd that came out after the yr 2000 when NLR began to fade out. I'm 24 years old now and still got love and respect for my nigga P. When I was about 6 this nigga came to my city but of course I was too you BUT my mom and dad went and got me an autographed poster (the ICM album poster). I got the No Limit tank tatted on me too. I miss the old days

Frfr my thoughts exactly 💯
Thats my nigga mane Master.P
Damn, P was shinin'.
Until this day forward I haven't seen anyone in the rap game out do master P and no limit records. P made a statement when he said he drop a album when he wants to, and he did dam near every month it seems. I remember back in the 90s going to the record store or to the mall to buy any CD Master P put out with the Tank on the back....💯
I doubt he was worth $600 million, but this nigga was paid. This nigga was Independent selling 500,000 to 700,000 copies. At $10 an album that's 5 mill to 7 mill. And he ain't sharing that with no one except the niggas in his crew. Add that to the other niggas selling and that's GUAP! Gotta give this dude his props.
MrUndacovabrova you must be young to not know this man was worth 600 million at one point he still is worth 350 million
He stole “I’m bout it” from unlv
