History of Druid Treant Forms: Lore, History, and Appearances
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2023
- In this History of WoW video, we’ll be looking at the lore, history, and appearance of the 2 main tree forms that Druids can shapeshift into. Both of these forms are most usually associated with the Restoration specialization and the common name for both of these forms is simply called the Treant Form. However this is technically incorrect, since the actual shapeshifting spell is called “Tree of Life”. Over the course of the game’s history there have been 2 different “Tree Forms", but for the sake of simplicity and familiarity we’ll primarily refer to both forms in this video as the Treant Form in less we need to specify. We’ll explain how and why there are 2 different Tree Forms later in this video.

I hated when Blizz removed Treant form as a permanent shapeshift and made it a cooldown
Non druid main Pvp players were over the moon about this exact thing😂
Not gonna lie I like it. The treant models looks so bad
yeah they gave the lame excuse of we wantg playgers to see the gear on the characters blabla..... WHY DON'T THEY MAKE IT INTO A COOLDOWN FOR OTHER SPECS TOO THEN?? and honestly it makes no sense to change back and forth into treant form. Why would a druid go out of their form???
Spoken as players who never went owl or cat weaving.
@@god6384dude. Good rdruids are always in either boomy, cat or bear, when not healing.
That is the nature of a SHAPE-SHIFTING specc.
Why do you want to sit in tree form and just afk?
It is very unfortunate that the Resto druid is technically the only spec that does not have its own permanent shapeshift form that actually does something. I specified it because for the last few expansions you could actually change into a treant, but it is only a cosmetic change.
I really miss permanent Tree of Life form, but the current resto druid gameplay might be my favorite since wotlk! There's a talent at the bottom of the tree called Reforestation, which transforms you into tree form on every third cast of Swiftmend. This, combined with the ability of using Moonkin Form as a healer and the damage benefits of catweaving, makes resto druid a master shapeshifter, constantly changing forms and applying periodic effects. And you can also see your tmog!
treant form was peak in wotlk! what an era it was~ thanks for all your druid coverage, they're a special class indeed
When you started the video with the Warcraft 3 Lore I figured you were going to talk about the Playable Hero character Cenarius and how his best (IMO) ability was "force of nature" that would convert trees within range into Treants that would fight for you for a limited amount of time.
History about Paladin auras could be cool. Love the vid.
Thanks for another fun and interesting video. Keep up the good work.
I miss treant as a regular druid form so much. I never understood why they removed it!
Most pve stuff thats loved was removed or changed for pvp knuckle draggers
you know you can buy the tome that gives you perma tree form from the druid order hall
@@LyricsAreMyEmotions Yes I know. I bought it for one of my druids a long time ago, not from the order hall but in Moonglade. But it's not the same. That is just cosmetic stuff.
@@broKen73484 They didn't remove the other forms. though.
@@weedle5221now what made you wanna use that insult
The boomkin jumps scare at 4:05 was so funny
Always loved the tree, its so adorable.
I paused your video before I went to bed. When I started it again today, the first thing I heard was your palm tree joke. I don't know what to do with myself now.
One fun fact you missed is that when Treant form was introduced in tbc it could not cast barkskin. They added that in later on because people complained about a 'tree' unable to use 'barkskin' not making sense.
😂 u can basically hear him smiling when he said “u can call em palm trees” looooool that was cheeky
Man your content makes me miss WoW
Those tree puns at the end 😅
I was gonna ask why Hiru spent so much time barking up the tree of Treants, but I figured I better leaf it alone
As someone who watched a lot of your older stuff, I was surprised but also glad you didn't refer to them as "trents" lol. Great stuff as always!
He definitely leans into his dyslexia to boost engagement.
He is saying "trents" though lol
@@Xfacta12482 well he didn't for a few minutes, I was excited and typed before proceeding lol. Also in case the first comment made comes off as mean, it's intended with love, English is a bastard of a language anyways
@@Xfacta12482 Yeah, most of the time he was pronouncing it as trent instead of tree-ant.
damn I didnt expect you to make a video the insignificant form
The term for treant was in D&D long before WoW existed because of the whole Tolkien copyright deal. :)
Man. WoW was my soul back in the day. I won’t say I don’t miss it. But I’m glad I have real goals now.
I never minded the reduced movement speed originally because you were pretty much only casting HoTs. I have the Glyph on my Highmountain Tauren now and even though it doesn't actually do anything I ALWAYS have it active if I can.
Something to note is that "Tree of Life" is a specific type of treant. All trees of life are treants but not all treants are trees of life.
I was heartbroken when they got rid of the old tree form at the end of Wrath the purple Afro tree is horrid . The very last night of old Wrath before the Cata systems patch on my server the Scryers we had a tree party in Moon Glade for us druids and we ran an all Tree raid on Org that was a ton of fun
PALM TREES!?!? OOOOOH BROTHER, THIS GUY STIIINKS!!!
I'm going out on a limb here to say, that is more facts then you can shake a stick at.
Treant Form should come back because it is too iconic for Resto Druids.
Give them the Dragonflight treatment and give them some customisation options with the Ancient Form becoming a cooldown infight that increases healing and armor for some time.
What are you on about? It existed 2 expansions.
Cat form is more iconic for rdruids.
This is a great video, but you did miss the little easter egg about how players in tree of life form standing near a cooking fire would burst into flames.
Also, there's a new restoration treant ability coming out next patch, but you couldn't have known that!
He does mention the cooking fire effect…
When you said "they should be called palmtrees", I groaned so hard I could hear my old manb yell at me even tho he left for ciggys when I was around 4 years old - 10/10 dadjoke
I know he had a good laugh at that palm tree joke.
Great vid! But worth mentioning that the tree of life form in tbc and wotlk couldave been banished by warlocks in pvp, making stance shifting more important
I wish you'd talk about High Botanist Tel'arn in Nighthold, don't forget that it's a much better trent mutation than WoW druid trents, and something that would serve the future of Druids in Nightborne and Belfs as a playable class.
As a lover of Druid and especially Resto, I do hate resto being the only druid spec that doesn't have its own iconic and constant shapeshift form but the Treant form just seems like it would be too difficult to not make look goofy af. I was fine with it in TBC Classic when transmog didn't exist but I don't know if I can handle looking like a reject groot when I got some cool transmogs going to waste.
These videos series are cool. I think you should do paladins next.
I wish that treant form was a permanent form that actually did something rather than just being cosmetic. It's not fair how every other spec has a permanent form. Treant form is also currently bugged. You can cast sunfire and starfire but starsurge and starfire throw you out of the form for some reason, while starfire and wrath dont. plus since it's on the GCD even though its only cosmetic you cant just macro it to abilities without losing a GCD. I wish so much blizzard would do something to fix it.
BROOOOO the amount of tree related puns ...
Leaf suggestions?
Is there any way to get that mount nowdays? I'm a returning player and just loved it
Love being a tree form but I wish there was druid of the talon like in Warcraft III
You mean nelf flight form?
Treants are actually from DnD and DnD is the one that ACTUALLY influence almost all forms of high fantasy in a Western setting. DnD just happens to be heavily influenced by Tolkien's works.
Before the movies, few people even knew of Tolkien's works despite knowing about many of the creatures and concepts that originated in his works, due to the influence of DnD. One of the biggest examples would be the beautiful long-lived elves (cuz there are many other variants of elves), orcs, and dwarfs.
History of Rogue Poisons after droods?
You forgot one small thing, if you are in treant form near a campfire, the buff burns you
In Shadowlands you could get Tree of Life for 9 seconds from the 4-set in Sepulchre
The version of the spell that turns them into the incarnation version of the treant form is called the Tree of Life. However, I have a spell on my bar right now that specifically sais "Treant form". It's the glyph that gives you the cosmetic version.
So saying that "Treant Form" is incorrect is well... incorrect.
You missed a step when talking about how treants got their name; namely that treants were first called that in the first edition of Dungeons and Dragons.
Otherwise you were spot on with it, even the why they weren't simply called ents.
Im just now convinced he made this video to make the palm tree joke lol
If healing incrase was reduced from 25 to 20 then it is not a 5% reduction it is a 20% reduction in incrased healing
Almost like a toy making you immune to poly passively in human form, has some application in the game. Hmm.
what ability wont hirumaredx make a 15 minute video about
Trents
I miss setting down campfires near treant players and setting the on fire.
Tree-ent
Akchually: 'Ent' is just an Old English word for Giant, just like Ettin and Thurse. And while Tolkien did innovate tree-like elements for his Ents, his estate's trademark on 'Ent' is as ludicrous as trademarking 'Elf'. You know Middle-Earth Enterprises started a lawsuit over the use of 'elf', 'dwarf', etcetera? Thankfully they lost those at least.
you forgot the old april fools day patchnotes from 2005 or 2006. I don't remember wich one it was.
I think the word Ent itself is Old English for giant, but guess Tolkien change the public meaning of it, Ent now fall under the Tolkien estate 😅
They made it so you can't remove the glyph so you always have the tree form on your bars I hope they let us customise the UI so I don't have it there
can't you use vanishing powder to remove a glyph effect?
@@jigglersmaster Not with this one
Casually making a palm tree joke lol
Trent form
In another video, you have said that the “dead sky” effect came from Pirates Of The Caribbean.
In this one, you say it came from Lord Of The Rings.
Cannot be both.
Broccololi form
What a pun video
In this video, watch a man morph treant to Trent and be very ok with it
First
it sounds like you say "trent" and not "tree-ent"
"Trent form" >< lol
Gonna go ahead and say the cata remodels looked absolutely terrible. Truly awful.
I hate that you pronounce it "Trent".
"palm treants"

Hiru i know youre reading it off a script but could you please speak slower… you’re going through your script way too fast…
Slowly and make us listen and understand
You can reduce the video speed to 0.75 if you want. I personally like the speed he talks at.
Can you speak slower?
