This was a great trip report! Keep up the good work! (I just got off of United flights from my Philippines trip and I would love to see you fly to Manila from San Francisco with United!)
I’ve been happy with my recent flights on United’s Premium Plus - EWR-MXP, EWR-BRU. I’m tall, so I need the extra legroom, and the service is good. Most importantly, the purple seats and amenity kit matched my sweater 🤣
@ Why would you say something as nasty as that? Seriously. Of course it’s nice for shorter people to have extra legroom. But for tall people, it is torture (not only discomfort, but blood clots and edema), and an absolute necessity. I hope you were just kidding because I can’t imagine anyone would assume that I want short people to suffer.
United is...ok I guess, it gets the job done. But I wish there were more US carriers flying to Hong Kong to give an alternative option, like when American or Delta also flew to Hong Kong. Great footage of a beautiful sunrise btw, good job.
Thank you, appreciate you watching the video. Actually prior to the pandemic, at one point SFO had 4 airlines to HKG and they were UA, CX, SQ and HX. (I believe AA and DL may have had flights from LAX or elsewhere but not SFO.) But with the 4 airlines, it was a bloodbath with HX losing out. SQ was my favorite and I took them often between SFO and HKG. However, since the pandemic, SQ for whatever reason has not returned service between these 2 cities. :(
Premium plus looks decent for a long flight like that. Dinner and breakfast look pretty good. I won't be so fortunate to experience that on my flight to Paris from SFO. I'll be at the back of the plane. Nice video.😮
Thanks Jeff for watching! Yeah the Premium Plus experience went beyond my expectation. Hopefully your flight to Paris goes well even in the back of the plane, fingers crossed for a light load.
Indeed meal was great! The meals in Economy is smaller in portion in size. A good representation is my video from last Dec which is also from SFO to HKG in Economy and you can see the kind of meals served. ua-cam.com/video/VvNvzzWJJ14/v-deo.html
It really depends on how much you can get Premium Plus for. For this route, I was able to only get it, if I remember correctly, $400 or so more and it was absolutely worth every dollar. Sometimes it can be at least $1000 or more which is then not worth it to me but for just $400 I did not hesitate at all. The extra legroom and recline made that 15 hour flight much more tolerable.
How many hours did you sleep on the plane, do you remember how much you pay to fly United to Hong Kong, how's passport control for entering Hong Kong and your trip, did you enjoy it?
Question: Not knowing which day you took off SFO to Hong Kong, let's assume Friday night, was arrival time in Hong Kong Sunday morning? i.e. you lose a day flying west over the International Dateline?
@@BayAreaTraveler and I know coming back, you might leave at 12 noon on Friday, and arrive at 8:00 A.M. Friday, 4 hours earlier, same day, going east across the dateline. I know someone who was on a flight like that.
The only problem with Premium Plus is sleeping. Besides that, It's much better than Economy, or even Economy Plus. I can't imagine doing that flight in Economy.
@@BayAreaTraveler I traveled with my spouse on United from HK to Ft Myers. The itinerary was HK-SF-DC-FM. The first two legs We were put into both middle seat. The last leg we had a window and one middle seat. Even the ticket doesn’t allow us to choose seats, any common sense people wouldn’t do this. It was a cheap shot. We paid about $1000 one way each.
@@BBBZ123 It sounds like you purchased the Basic Economy Fare (or from a third party website) which does not allow you to choose seats and the airline will select seats for you. Not necessary the fault of United. That's why I never pick Basic Economy or go through a third party travel site even though airfare maybe substantially cheaper so that I can freely choose which seat.
I noticed how the 3 FA's didn't even bother to acknowledge the passenger (this videographer) as he was trying to walk through, with a simple greeting🙄. Typical AMERICAN-based FA's
@@anthonywalsh2164 actually I prefer to be on a noisy plane, it helps to drown out other noises. Planes that are quieter actually make it difficult to get rest when others are talking or babies are crying.
My hyperbole was obviously lost. It was more the design of the plane in terms of passenger comfort, especially regarding noise and the 3-4-3 layout in economy.
@@anthonywalsh2164 It's not really the fault of Boeing nor a design issue regarding the 3-4-3 layout but rather the decision of the airlines. Originally, the 777-200 had a 2-5-2 or 3-3-3 seating config. I actually flew in 3-3-3 on EVA AIR back early 2010s. When airlines realized that they could cram another seat into the row to squeeze profitability, then it became a horrible passenger experience in Economy.
HK was my old stomping ground as a kid in the 70s & 80s as i grew up in Malaysia - before Asia became fully Westernized -
That's wonderful! HK was my old stomping ground too as I was born there but immigrated from there to US early on.
@@BayAreaTraveler I've lived in the US 20 YEARS now - my parents are Australian - I miss asia of old - today it's grossly over populated

When I go international, I need that Polaris club at the airport and Bed to sleep in! That’s the way I flew SFO to Hong Kong
I like 787 that offers 2-3-2 seat configuration.
