you need to try a sharper angle on the brush... cut at 45deg not 90 and youll see a big difference - stops it bouncing off

Bought one a couple years ago, will never go back to a machete, this thing comes from the factory wicked sharp and makes short work of some pretty stout wood, easy to sharpen too.

The best thing about this tool for me is its weight, it can do much of the work of a small hatchet and it's considerably lighter and more versatile. More awkward to carry but sits nicely on the side of my 50L rucksack.
I was clearing a footpath of 7ft bracken earlier and it was bloody hard work. Similar to you with the saplings. This is where its lightness is inconvenient. For clearing large amounts of big weeds you'd obviously be better with a longer, thicker machete or sickle or even a scythe. But they're big and heavy so I'm never going to carry one on a hike.
I haven't sharpened mine since I got it a few days ago, and the coating has come off most of the blade edge. My plan is to get and keep it razor sharp so weight/momentum is less important.
I enjoyed your video anyway, take it easy.

I drive snowcats for my snowmobile club in the winter and we use this as our quick tool to cut small trees and brush, when buying new they dont cut as good as it could be, we get one of our club member that is a "Saw Filler" by trade and once he he's done with them they are amazing, that log would of taken about 5 or six hits and those brush he was cutting would of been one swing. We love them and use them.

Just stumbled over this review ,I have zero knowledge of that whacker but it looks like the secret to it's whacking ability is the length of that handle. That is a lot of leverage which equates to nothing but weight . I have seen them on display at the big box stores here in the states but have had no need . Odd item for bush Craft but it will do a lot of jobs that need doing around the camp site ,you just never no until your challenged . Happy Trails

The crazy thing of this tool is... like the Glock knife the tang is extremely short. But it isn't a weak point at all.
It takes all the power chopping punishment.
For arm sized wood pick this one over the X7 or X10. This one bites way deeper....
    Very good tool.

The previous version X3 had a sharp tip, it was much better to the point where sellers would sometimes demand a premium price for the last pieces once Fiskars stopped production and replaced it with XA3

Looks like a nice heavy duty cutting tool there. And high vis with the orange on the handle so you dont lose it when you put it down. I use an old Billhook of my great nans myself but definitely looks like a nice semi bomb proof version.

Have you tried the Woodsman Pal? It's an American design from WW2 that combines a billhook with a machete type blade. I find it very useful for clearing brush and vines from my hunting stand located in the forests of Maryland's Eastern shore.

I've just ordered mine to use for chopping kindling. Been using an axe but I saw Alaskan Bush people on tv using a billhook and it looked very effective, - - as long as you keep your digits clear!. Where is the Fiskers outlet? Is it in England?

These billhooks are very effective tools.
I can see why they would take it over an axe or hatchet.
A billhook can chop quite some thick limbs.
And the thinner limbs are a breeze to go through. Where an axe or hatchet is unwieldy due to its heavy head, chopping thin limbs..

  • @paolobuffa6889
    @paolobuffa6889 4 роки тому

Excellent tool, robust and resistant to rust, suitable for limbing or batoning work.
I prefer my billhook, than having the pointed end, with which I can skewer the pieces of wood to lift them off the ground.

Nice vesuri! I always carry one in the trunk of my car. "Vesuri", for cutting "vesa", literally meaning young tree. So I guess vesuri could be translated to "young-tree'er" :D Recommend trying bigger models too, with longer blade and significantly longer handle. Always mind your every hack, every single strike, every cut. When I was a kid I blew that blunt tip on my knee. Not hard but still hurt very much.

    • @Ve-suvius

And you can chop those thicker branches also with it .
It bites deep, and is very fast, when comparing it to a hatchet for example.

The old boys used to spot where a cow had breached a hedge cut back the hazels with a slash to bases 3 qtrs through bend it over intertwine it with other various species by times spring came arounds following year the hole that the cow had gone or pushed through was now fully plugged up and thriving the knock on effects to nesting birds and wildlife that uses these hedges as freeways to get too and fro also was not insignificant a real farmer would spend a lot of winter time redoing repairing improving all of his hedgerows in dead winter months!
