- cast iron baseboard shutoff union leaking for a long time rotted out hardwood flooring,,, been leaking for years looks like .was able to push my screw driver right through the hard wood flooring
Have to say I love my steam heating system, less moving parts, no freezing pipes or leaks, good job as always
This has to be one of the funniest videos I've seen of yours so far, calling her the wrong name, the free estimate convo, that was great.
+bryan1282 i try to keep the stuff in the videos you can't make this stuff up
LoL! I read about a lot of successful people & they all say to do what you did. Don't work for free, if you're good, you're worth what you charge, if you don't like it, good bye. Thats why you're successful skid! Skilled labor is not cheap, & cheap labor is not skilled. Great job Steve!
"Steven! I have been calling you for years, and you still don't know my name!!" LOL!!! Man, that leak must have been going on for years, not just months.
Did he call her by the name of the street she lives on? Lol then steve just plays it off like whatever. That made me laugh
I came for the plumbing but stayed for the baby dog.
Nice repair, Steven. The radiator will live another day. The floor, not so much!
thank god she moved that carpet ... water is essential yet destructive ... nice repair Steve ... better to check for air while your there than a call back
Hi Steven, I live in Ottawa Canada I have a cast iron baseboard, there's a small crack on the bottom corner of baseboard near outlet part of the baseboard, is it possible to weld that, do you have a suggestion what i need to accomplish this? I'm not even sure how to dismantle this section apart since it is part of an 11 ft long baseboard, but i see that they are held together in sections, but not sure how to remove this end of the section for repair. your help is appreciated.
I am a Carpenter and know that the older Homes wood building materials are usually less sensitive to wet/rot. So cannot imagine how much worse this be in a new House!
Am not a Plumber by Trade, but would think that leak should have stopped long ago...but because of the Heater (and the warmth)...it kept the Union from sealing?! ..and/or is it too much of a large leak?
My opinion on circs on the return does not mean they will never work. We all know they work. If the circs are on the return pumping into the boiler, then into the expansion tank, you just increased the probability of air in the system, and also increased the likelihood of the pressure relief valve blowing at high temps because the boiler is seeing a good part of the pumps pressure differential. With these low head pumps and 12 psi cold fill pressure, this is generally not a problem, but still it's a better idea overall to pump away from expansion tank.
+Joe Bal 99% of the stuff i work on it circulators on the return . they work fine this way don't let anyone tell you they do not . prof is in the pudding
Nice repair Steve. I can't understand how she can not notice the huge dip in the floor, leading right to the wood rot from the leak.
+Michael Padovani it was behind the bed she said
Can those type of heaters be cut Down in size and reconnected on the new cut part?
Excellent repair Steve
ooooo momma steve is a working man momma
+dklucas1 ooo yea steve is a real working man mama
Wow that was pretty bad. We don't have many radiators here in the south, everything is either natural gas or electric central furnace /AC or heat pumps.Even some of the old historic plantation type homes around here that did have boilers and radiators have been converted but they kept the radiators in place for aesthetics but they do not actually work.
Some of the old buildings downtown have heat and water chill cool radiators that run though but those are becoming more and more rare.
+ElfNet Gaming I think a lot of people yank the hot water systems because the boilers are expensive to replace. My old house has a boiler and I love it. The heating is even, the air isn't as dry as a hot air system, less dust, it''s quiet, and it is efficient. There are very common here in Southern Illinois.
bg147 here in PA too. I really love mine.
She can grow mushrooms... fresh right at home.. Just a little super glue done..
Nice work Steve as always
+justin henning been leaking for a long time
Another great fix Steve
water can cause thousands of dollars in damage. a couple of more years she would have found herself in the basement. good vid steven
the installer is to blame
Steve, I'm buying a house with cast iron baseboard heating in the kitchen and my home inspection said that both are cracked and will have to be replaced. What's your opinion on a good replacement???
maybe you can find some used ones look on crages list you can't mix castiron and copper fin in same zone .
Home Inspectors are crooks they do not like antique stuff.
Looking at the 007 circ closest to boiler and that will be a bugger to change cartridge only when and if the need arises....Worry about it another day.
as far as your "sarcastic" comment is there really a difference having the circulators on the return vs supply? is it easier to pull vs push? I'm thinking theres no difference but whats your take steve
Thought it had to do more with the temp of the water
Wow. That is pretty nasty. I wonder if the joists are any good either.
+Gary B i believe the joist are all rotted also floor dropped quite a bit
probably NOT.... all mush..
That floor was destroyed! I thought you were gonna have to rip those pipes apart...turned out to be an easy fix!..Nice work!
This ass wipe just did a simple fix All bow to a man with a pipe Wrench

+james holder about one hour all together
Great job, nice fix!
+Don Burton floor is toast
Yes it is! Good thing she moved the bed before it went crashing through the floor.
lol
not just the wood floor the sub floor and the floor joists all damaged.. eeks a mess...
Steve the man needs your advice on "why you wear gloves"
That was some rot Steve. I probably would have fallen through that floor and wound up in the basement!
Hardwood floors are overrated anyway. Nice job on the plumbing.
Steve no free estimate? Momma he don't work for free haha lol
Enjoyed the video.Great job
Sagging? It's good. It's more pitch towards the shut off. I'm only half kidding.
