There is a pretty cool show called "Engine Masters" they do a whole episode on these TB spacers. They do a lot of tests with different style spacers and different engines. They basically found that every engine reacts differently to them. I think the best numbers they saw was an 8 horse power gain, in some cases the cars lost power. Another factor they were all V8's and some were boosted applications. So I guess end result is it is a total crap shoot...probably not worth it on a N/A V6. I think the best thing people can do is figure out who they want to tune their car and get their input. They see tons of data every day to back up whatever part list they may recommend. In most cases since the tuner has no real affiliation with these vendors they don't have any biased interest in suggesting certain things either.
Had one one my 03 Z, definitely felt the difference from stop and at higher speed, the car could climb up easier. Also there was a supercharger whining sound when reving! Planning on getting it for my 2011 fx35 🤞🏾
I do not know if it improves HP or Torque. However, what I do know is that they increase MPGs if you have a manual transmission (probably an automatic as well). I have one in a 2022 JLU with manual transmission and in 5th and 6th gear between 1500 and 2000 rpms you basically had a dead pedal. If in 6th you had to downshift for mild elevation changes and if you wanted to accelerate after dropping to 5th you might have to drop it to 4th. I do not have to do that any longer and it will hold 6th gear and if you want to accelerate you don't have to shift down to 4th anymore. Thus, you increase MPGs because you can stay in a higher gear. I confess that I created some of the problem when I put 2 inch taller tires and did not change the front and rear gears, but now I don't have to because the throttle response is so much better at lower RPMs.
Theoretically, in aerodynamics there is a concept of introducing turbulators to a structure in order to minimize the separation of air from the surface of an object. Separation can create small circulations at the back of the object as it travels through the air creating something called an adverse pressure gradient which can create excess drag upon the object. This is why they put dimples on golf balls so that they travel faster and farther. This however is a concept for external flow and I'm not sure how the existence of turbulators would work in an internal flow scenario to the same effect. Seems like bad science to me but I'll bring it up to my instructor.
Yes yes, the golf ball science is really cool. There is just too many contradictory concepts when it comes to intakes and throttle bodies. Smooth intake tubes to reduce turbulence and increase flow. Hey guys I really need your opinion about those afe TB spacers, Just got them installed on my g35 hr sedan and can feel little difference on throttle response but still can’t decide is it gaining hp or I’m loosing some 😓
Boost, NOS and displacement are the ONLY power adders. Most “performance” bolt-ons target reducing friction, therefore freeing up pre-existing power. Disconnect your power steering pump and notice the gains. If you understand when and where and why to run a single plane or dual plane intake manifold, you’ll better understand a tb spacer. No, it doesn’t give you ANY more power. But it does do, is change your power band. An LS already has a broad low to mid power band. Therefore it’s unlikely to notice any “gains” from one. However, a small 4 banger might feel a bit more low end torque improvement.
Let me give some advice. Do buy the eBay one and save yourself some mone. It’s an aluminum blank. It’s impossible to screw up. Check the size is right and go for it.
My thoughts were the same, I feel like it would just mess up the placement and fitment of the intake and where it connects to the airbox with no real benefit to performance. 👍
Well the next argument is improved gad mileage… some people claim up to 4mpg gain.. even in the case of a 1/2 mpg gain it pays for itself… and then people like the extra noise. I got suckered in.. i ordered a steeda, it was only $95 shipped. Steeda claims 2-4 horsepower and improved mpg.. steeda is a company with a good reputation so you tend to give credence to the brand name too. Its an easy sale when they mention “saving gas”… oh yes it will pay for itself.
Great video brother, I hate when I see people/channels promote some dumb product that's popular today. But the way I look at a TB spacer is like this... don't expect for it to inherently give you more power. If it can do anything, it'll be aiding temperature control which can in turn aid in power. If it'll reduce IAT by even 1 degree then ehhh... I'll spend $50 on one. The fact that they just look pretty can almost justify the cost for me lol. Besides, I've spent $50 on much dumber things in my time on this rock.
Thank you very much for your sincerity, I thought to buy it, but under your experience and decided not to buy it. Many Thank you for your time and work, a greeting from Spain

Thought process behind the design is they cuts in the metal is supposed to add an air movement from straight free flow to a swirl movement then the smaller diameter exit on the part is supposed to act like a funnel from a wider diameter to a smaller diameter causing the air pressure to gain velocity. All in theory but the part you got looks like its backwards. I would assume the smaller diameter should be on the exit side now the inlet side.
I did not get these. I don't know what you're referring to when saying the part I got looks backwards. The purpose of the cuts was read from the description of the part itself. I think it's more of a ploy than a theory.
@@SpeedCultureStudios i was referring to the picture you used in vid. Yea with physics it should work in idea but I feel that different cars and different mods will handle the part differently.
Hey bro , I bought a throttle body spacer, for my G37s, am not sure if it did any thing, but I ran my friend 370z before the spacers and I did beat him. But after I installed the spacers he did beat me , so I guess these spacers are junk
Probably has nothing to do with the spacers. Race him again. The z and g are very closely matched. Could come down to fuel quality, freshness of your plugs or coils etc. the spacers aren’t going to win are lose a race!
@@SpeedCultureStudios I mean, for example, if the width of the TB spacer is 1 inch wide, by lengthen my ram pipe to 1 inch, is this "concept" works the same way?
@@kcong4958 I suppose it is the same concept but the result is the same-no gains. Many, if not most, TB spacers have a design to “spiral” the air into the engine, so there is technically a difference there-but that still doesn’t help.

You say they domt add hoursepower… but are you talking peak power? Well the spacers are meant to increase low end torque below 2500 rpm and throttle response… not peak power..
@@SpeedCultureStudios i agree you are probably right… but the case for the physics is there.. if you think of the throttle body as a choke point., speeding up air flow through it would improve air flow slightly.
@@keithbellair9508 The theory behind them is compelling and you can make it make sense, but in a practical sense, they just do not work. There are a lot of things that sound good on paper, but when you test them or put them to use in the real world, they just don't pan out. This is one of them.

@@spacepope87 because it doesn’t. Maybe you think you felt a difference, but there is no way to measure it in any real way. Every experience with “gains” or “throttle response” is all anecdotal. TB spacers do nothing. Whether they are $30 or $300 I would tell you they are not worth the money.
Throttle body spacers can be compared to a full length guide rod in a 1911. Not worth the aggravation, cost, or miniscule benefit ime. To each their own. It's a free country.
They make more sense to me in theory, but results I have seen from them don’t do it for me either. The dyno sheets I have seen show the same numbers as people with factory TBs. the thing is that the VQ already brings in as much as as it can handle so when you install bigger intakes or ported manifolds, the car can’t really do much with it. Test pipes and catback help and headers kinda sorta help, but the results don’t change much. You will make 335-340 hp with intakes, test pipes and catback. Install big bore TBs, you’ll make 335-340hp. Install ported upper and lower-335-340hp. Install headers...335-345hp.

Great video, now my next mod is destroyed lol. I would’ve thought there would be some hp gains. I was going to go with afe. They claim some hp. They even had a Dyno sheet with the 370z stock with muff delete. The hp was 6 plus 7lbs tq. I know every car is a bit different and some results vary. But it seems with the 3.7 a couple hp is a lot and every bit helps. Oh well.
@@carlosmoody1615 this definitely works on a panther body car. Throttle response on a 4.6L with performance air filter and muffler delete or muffler and resonator delete is a notable difference. They don’t work properly unless tuned so I buy a $20 performance air filter and slap it in the factory air box and it works like a charm. An LS already has a broad low to mid power band. Therefore it’s unlikely to notice any “gains” from one. However, a small 4 banger might feel a bit more low end torque improvement.
It can certainly vary from vehicle to vehicle-in the VQ, you won’t notice any additional power gains or changes to the curve. Zero impact
Let me give some advice. Do buy the eBay one and save yourself some mone. It’s an aluminum blank. It’s impossible to screw up. Check the size is right and go for it.
I'll give you even better advice. Don't buy them at all lol.
My thoughts were the same, I feel like it would just mess up the placement and fitment of the intake and where it connects to the airbox with no real benefit to performance. 👍
They work trust me

Well the next argument is improved gad mileage… some people claim up to 4mpg gain.. even in the case of a 1/2 mpg gain it pays for itself… and then people like the extra noise.
I got suckered in.. i ordered a steeda, it was only $95 shipped. Steeda claims 2-4 horsepower and improved mpg.. steeda is a company with a good reputation so you tend to give credence to the brand name too. Its an easy sale when they mention “saving gas”… oh yes it will pay for itself.
Melbourne is still listening , you should have more subscribers my brother, thanks for another well explained video.
Glad to have you, as always, and I appreciate the kind words!
Lol that’s a positive perspective. I won’t argue with it 😂
How about 3inch intake with 76mm TB with spacer, will they make more power?
Thank you very much for your sincerity, I thought to buy it, but under your experience and decided not to buy it. Many Thank you for your time and work, a greeting from Spain
Thank you for watching!!
My question is not concerning HP gains as much as from a stop throttle responce will it add to that? we shall see since i just ordered one.
Some say yes some say no. Curious to hear your feedback when you get yours installed!!
I got a 06 ram 1500 hemi.ordered afe intake(neighbor talked me into it)you think this spacer will help with the new afe intake or should i pass? Thanks
I would pass on the spacer.
@@SpeedCultureStudios right on man.thanks for the reply & advice 🙏🏽
You get better hp gains with the afe dry drop in filters for less money...lol
That’s the first thing I bought for my 3.7 the afe dry filters.
thank you mac demarco.i have one on my 97 ford f150 and to be honest I didn't feel nothing probly made it more slower.i have a cold intake on it and that I felt a difference on.thanks man
No resemblance
I have ones from ebay and they cool songs like take more air
@@Demon_Mx2277 ah yeah the pictures included were just from websites. It’s definitely true that different engines respond different to certain mods!
I tried these on many vehicles over the years. N/a and forced. Never saw a single gain. A cam and a good tune always went farther.
3 hp gain 8hp torque for me not bad
Hey bro , I bought a throttle body spacer, for my G37s, am not sure if it did any thing, but I ran my friend 370z before the spacers and I did beat him. But after I installed the spacers he did beat me , so I guess these spacers are junk
Probably has nothing to do with the spacers. Race him again. The z and g are very closely matched. Could come down to fuel quality, freshness of your plugs or coils etc. the spacers aren’t going to win are lose a race!
@@SpeedCultureStudios thank you bro , I will race him again
Im looking at this not for the HP gain but for better gas mileage?
Won’t see that either most likely.
May I ask, what is the difference between adding a TB spacer than increasing the length of my air intake ram pipe?
There wouldn’t be any difference unless the increased length got your filter closer to cold air
I got the tbs didn't notice anything and I'm thinking of taking them off should i?
They aren’t hurting anything
Thank you for the insight J, didn't even know they had these for the q50. I had some given to me when I had my blazer xtreme and they were trash. Didn't do shit but move my things around. I didn't like it. Waste of money they good part is that I didn't buy them. But thank you J for the video and keep that great content going!!!
You say they domt add hoursepower… but are you talking peak power? Well the spacers are meant to increase low end torque below 2500 rpm and throttle response… not peak power..
They have no impact on power anywhere on the powerband in a vast majority of cases.
Should I buy a 2013 g37x with 50k miles for 10k?? I need your answer man I like the way you keep it 💯 always! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Yeah throttle spacers are really only beneficial for carbureted motors. They are a marketing ploy for fuel injection motors

Because it’s ugly. No other reason lol. It still fits, I just don’t like it. I’ve talked about it in other videos. I prefer the mechanical look of the engine rather than a plastic cover
I installed a Spacer with a drop in K&N air filter. It produces a deeper growl and better throttle response, on my 2010 CVPI. I also use a drop in K&N air filter on my work CVPI and the growl gained isn't as strong.
They do work. But more HP is bs. They are NOT a poor man's turbo.I paid $56 for mine from Ebay. Well worth it. But paying $200? Fuck no!
Not worried about the growl honestly
@@SpeedCultureStudios My point is that it worked. You could even hear a difference. Hence why I brought up the different growls.
@@spacepope87 I understand. If you’re purchasing them for a change in sound, they may work. But the purpose of the part is to increase velocity in air which is supposed to increase horsepower. And I agree with you-that’s bs
Thanks for checking in!
@@SpeedCultureStudios You're dismissing that it helps with throttle response. Why?
@@spacepope87 because it doesn’t. Maybe you think you felt a difference, but there is no way to measure it in any real way. Every experience with “gains” or “throttle response” is all anecdotal. TB spacers do nothing. Whether they are $30 or $300 I would tell you they are not worth the money.
Throttle body spacers can be compared to a full length guide rod in a 1911. Not worth the aggravation, cost, or miniscule benefit ime. To each their own. It's a free country.
Right on

@@SpeedCultureStudios it was on a 2000 z28 camaro fully built I felt the difference no lie
what about the big bore throttle bodies?

No.
Dude.
Everytime you take off the throttle body you gotta recalibrate it.

Nope. And wouldn’t
Oh well.
It works. I have one. Didn't pay 200 bucks. My definitely works. I have a few mods on my car,as well
@@carlosmoody1615 I paid $65 for mine. Much better throttle response.
@@carlosmoody1615 this definitely works on a panther body car. Throttle response on a 4.6L with performance air filter and muffler delete or muffler and resonator delete is a notable difference. This is just shy of $200 worth of parts from factory. No Cold air intake. They don’t work properly unless tuned so I buy a $20 performance air filter and slap it in the factory air box and it works like a charm. Also I think the spacers work better on V8’s because of the torque difference and the intake manifold size.
