The Best Multitrack Cassette Recorder from the 1990's?

- What’s your favourite multitrack cassette recorder? I rate the Yamaha MT8Xii and Tascam 688 very highly - both sound great to me, have 8 tracks and versatile mixers. I used the Yamaha to record this song ‘Broken Dreams’ with the rhythm track created by a combination of live suitcase drums and samples from my Retro Edition MPC live.

I can’t believe how good those drums sound!
Took a bit of tweaking but awesome to hear you think they sound good. 👍🙌
Nice job, man. I still have my MT8X, which I bought when it came out. In recent years I have transferred some of my '90s multitracks (which still sound great) from it into the Mac, and completed songs that had been unfinished for years. It's a solid machine. 😎
Thanks, man! That’s cool that you’ve kept hold of yours since new, and that the tapes have stood the test of time. It must be handy having the individual tape outs for the digital transfer too.
@@wehappyfewmusic Oh yeah, simple matter to capture all eight.
Outstanding song, performance and mix.
I bought a MT8X when they were new. Loved that machine. This makes me wish I still had it!
The MT8X are great machines, and thanks very much for your positive comment! 🙌
Love the live setting and the ending. You’re doing some great stuff with your MTR’s, man. Keep it up 🤘🏻
Thanks so much man, that’s great to hear! I thought the forest setting would be kinda interesting and fit with the song. 😊👍
Best video yet!
Cheers, dude!
Perfectly refreshed the sound of a cool song!
Thanks very much and thats great that you've heard our original acoustic version!
Brilliant tune!
Cheers bro, glad you like it!
This is so inspirational. Seriously, awesome job. 👌
That’s very kind of you, and great to hear! Thanks 😊
Very very very nice! Your Setup is awesome
Thanks so much, glad you like my setup! 🙌
Great channel, nice tunes!
Thanks very much! 🙌
Are you always using dbx on your yamaha mt8x? Sound sounds so clean. :) Great content btw. Greets
Yes I always have dbx switched on with my MT8X. Thanks for having a listen too. 👍
@@wehappyfewmusic thanks for your answer 😊✌️
Sick love it has a tom petty vibe about it
Thanks very much, I love Tom Petty stuff so am very happy with that! 🙌
I like it !
Thanks!
sick
Cheers buddy!
AMAZING..your production, writing and performance are wonderful.
Had a 688 as well as a 644 over the years. Great sound but the menu diving wasn't for me.
Thanks very much Richard for having a listen and leaving your kind comment! I know what you mean the 688/644 menu’s, they’re not very intuitive unfortunately. I stick to the presets on my 688. 😊
Do you have a preference /thoughts on wether you like the the Yamaha or Tascam over the other? Cool song and video. Really enjoy your channel!
Hi Nathan, that’s great to hear that you’re enjoying the channel! I think the Yamaha has a slight edge over the Tascam 488 due to the better equipped mixer. It’s a harder call between the Tascam 688 and this unit though? I’m gonna have to do a comparison video at some point.
Are the drums in the final mix coming mainly from samples in the MPC live or is it the suitcase drums that dominates the mix? Please describe how the drums were tracked and mixed. Thanks!
I recorded the suitcase drums as an audio track on the mpc, then layered samples on top. It’s about a 50/50 mix apart from the crash and ride, which are all from the MPC.
Thanks for the video! I have found a YAMAHA MT8X first version. I want to try to record a blues trio in cassette. Do you recommend to buy Yamaha mt8x first version ?
Hey I’ve not used the first version but I have heard that they sound very similar to the mk2, so I’d say yes!
@@wehappyfewmusic thanks so much!
@@quieora1789 no problem and hope you enjoy your MT8X!
The Tascam 246 was the best .
Maybe so, I’ve got a 244 and like that. 246 has a nice looking mixer.
