    1. The power outages from the impact zones upward would be publicly visible.
    2. The fires would be more visible, whereas the long cloud of smoke would be less.
    3. Less occupants in the evening would mean less casualties.

      Depending on the time. Most offices, or all, would've been empty. Only areas that would've been occupied would've been Observation Deck on South Tower and Windows of the World in the North.

      @tomr6955 in the end I dont think the terrorists really cared about max casualties, I think the wanted to create max terror/chaos, most excess deaths will be above the oimpact zone and since you are striking the towers pretty high, this isnt going to cause that many extra deaths.
      I am not a terrorrist (lol obv) but factors like how busy it is at the airport also is a factor, how security acts is a factor (are they a bit more easy going early in the morning f.e.)

    It actually could have happened at night, but not in the way youd expect.
    In 1981, 20 years prior, a 707 was flying from South America to New York, it was a dark and foggy night, possibly moonless. Someone from ATC realized that the pilots misunderstood directions and were on a direct collision with one of the towers, going their altitude was a scary 1,500 (and decreasing) They immediately told them to turn around, to get to JFK airport and barely landed safely

    Would you phone in bomb scares to all of the airlines,telling them the flight numbers,and for whom to look out?Would you go to that lounge near Newark Airport to start a fight with the hijackers,hoping that you'll all be arrested and the plan would be called off?

      Funny you mention this scenario. I came up with a treatment for a script years ago called Groundhog Day: 9/11 (ok, bad title - it was a working title) but the idea is that someone in PA wakes up every day at 6 am and it's 9/11 and they are 2 hours from Manhattan. They have to keep trying - with very limited time - to try and save as many people as possible with frustrating results in each attempt. I like your idea though- maybe the protagonist could wake up the day before and have time to even stop the planes from being hijacked?

      as messed up as it sounds, i wouldn’t stop it. playing with time is very dangerous and you would have no idea how the present day would change from altering something in the past. it could be better, but it could also be much worse, not worth the risk.

      @tomr6955 if i did, i wouldn’t change anything. but i wouldn’t even go at all. just me being there could affect the future. however, we don’t exactly know how time works since we can’t time travel. all of what i’ve said is assuming that time isn’t set, that things could be changed. the other theory is that time IS set, and if i happened to go back in time to germany in 1935, whatever efforts i made already happened. if time is set, you can’t change anything, since whatever you did has already occurred. so either way, you either drastically change the future, which could have terrible outcomes, or you can’t change anything at all. what the nazis did is absolutely terrible, but the only thing we can do now is keep the victims in our thoughts

      On a personal note, my grandfather was born because his mother went into labour early, due to being hit by a car when she was rushing to get to shelter during a German bombing raid on my city (Coventry). If that hadn't happened, I might have never existed.

    The explosions from the impacts would surely be more visible especially with the 2nd impact, and it would definitely be harder to see the planes except for the blinking lights and the sound of the engines and I imagine some people on the outside would think that a bomb went off in the buildings instead of a plane hitting them. As you were saying about the collapse, I agree that it would be scarier at night because the dust cloud could possibly look like some fast approaching black mass covering the streets but as you said, most likely less casualties.

    Had the towers been hit 1 or 2 hours later and the planes had hit the towers at like the 57th floor, the death toll would have likely been 10 times higher. The North Tower was hit between the 93rd and 99th floors and the South Tower hit between the 77th and 85th floors. Had both towers had been hit at the same time slicing from say the 57th and 63rd floor that would have likely severed all the stairwells from the 56th floor upward. That would mean that most people in each building would have been trapped. Adding 1 or 2 hours later would have made things even worse.

    • @AbeIsLincoln
      @AbeIsLincoln Рік тому +28

      For sure. Also a lot of people werent at work yet because they were voting that morning too.
      I remember hearing somewhere that the terrorist thought the towers would topple over on impact, that is why they hit the north tower so high. Basically in an attempt to push it over from the top, causing city blocks worth of instant catastrophic damage. And that is why when the 2nd plane came in and saw the north tower still standing they decided to hit the south tower lower and fast.
      I like to think the 2nd planes terrorist thought that they failed once again at bringing the towers down after seeing the north still standing before they died.
      That wouldve been crazy and wouldve caused even more mass confusion if the north tower immediately fell over or collapsed on impact and wouldve caused way more casualties. Its impressive how well the buildings took the initial impact and stood for so long.
      This video gives a good visual of how hard the building was hit if you watch how bad it sways from the impact. Took that hit like a champ.

    If you look to the left, you see the dark brown wall. Those divider walls fold out to make a private room, or can be pushed back all the way and open the room up. Most places that have those have a lot of space to work with. You can host a private wedding party, or company party etc. with DJ's and a private bar in that closed off area of the restaurant, and the rest of the regular dining area wouldn't even know or hear what's going on behind the wall. At least not until the door briefly opens. We have these at the Casino I work at. We turned a huge ball room into 6 smaller rooms with the dividers, all had their own DJ's and private Banquet dinners brought in, each room was about 20 feet from the next. That shows just how massive Windows on the World Restaurant was up there.

They shut our building down for a week at which I was glued to the TV at home watching the events unfold. Hitting a building dead on like that, with the biggest jet available, in a city full of other skyscrapers, was already an insane shot. They were going FAST and still had to bank up to not hit it at an angle. And somehow...they successfully made that happen twice. Unbelievable.

      "Of the 15,000 civilians who were underneath the impact zones, all but about 100 were able to evacuate successfully.
      Some of those 100 were trapped in stalled elevators. One group in an elevator managed to force the doors open, but then found they were faced with a sheetrock wall. A window washer on board offered his squeegee as a tool to carve a hole in the sheetrock, and they escaped.
      Others were not so lucky. On 9/11, the elevator systems in the twin towers had been undergoing a major elevator renovations project all year. Among the improvements were the installation of interlock devices on the elevator doors that prevented passengers from forcing the doors from inside. More than 80 elevator mechanics gathered in the lobby, and though they knew people were trapped by the interlocks, they chose to run away rather than go upstairs and help. Only one elevator mechanic died on 9/11. He was from another elevator company (Otis) and he just happened to be in the area, and he went to do what he could to help.
      Elevator mechanics normally have a culture of public service and rescue operations, so the behavior of these workers was quite scandalous. USA Today ran a two-part article. The contractor on the job, Ace Elevator, went out of business"
      When I saw your comment, I went to Google it. As I had never thought about the fact that people were probably trapped in the elevators. It's even worse, because of the fact that they had just updated them. These people literally couldn't get out.... Found this too 😢
      "a lot of people were trapped. Here’s a quick list
      SOUTH TOWER:
      Cindy Guan and Michelle Scarpitta were going to their offices when their elevators got stuck on the 12th floor when flight 175 hit the South Tower. Both women weren’t at work yet when flight 11 hit WTC 1, but they were allowed in regardless. They called family and it’s believed that they were with other people. They sadly weren’t rescued in time.
      Alan Mann, Donna Giordano, and Alan Friedlander were in an elevator that was on the 78th floor when flight 175 hit their floor. The elevator plummeted, but the emergency breaks hit on time, and they were in the lobby, slightly above the floor. Some people died, but Mann, Giordano, and Friedlander survived. However, only Mann and an unknown woman was able to escape, and Giordano, Friedlander, and the remaining survivors died.
      10 people met with firefighter Orio Palmer, and claimed they all came from the 78th floor, which was hit. Palmer told them to use an elevator that was working that he took on the 41st floor. A ladder 15 firefighter called and said that he was trying to break the wall.
      Lauren Smith, Dean Eberling, Russ Keene and Linda Rothemund along with 11 - 25 other people were on an elevator when the second tower hit. It's unsure what floor they were on but they fell 15 stories before the Elevator's emergency brakes kicked in. They all boarded the elevator on the 78th floor and were close to the Lobby. Lauren and Linda survived, as they were the only two small enough to escape from the hole. Russ and Dean did not, along with everyone else.
      Kelly Rehyer were in a elevator on the 78th floor. He worked together on the 100th floor. He got trapped with other people in the elevator, and managed to get out first since he was close to the door and could fit through. He saw two co-workers, Keating Crown and Donna Spera, and the three of them descended down 78th flight of stairs. All 3 survived and are three of 38 sky lobby survivors
      He wasn’t trapped but Edward Nicholls was in an elevator on the 78th floor where flight 175 crashed into him. He luckily managed to get out due to being pushed out from the force and escaped. He is another sky lobby survivor.
      NORTH TOWER:
      Al Smith, Jan Demczur, John Paczkowski, Colin Richardson, Shivam Iyer, and George Phoenix, were trapped in an express elevator in the North Tower. Realizing that the walls were made of sheetrock, Demczur, who was a janitor, used one of his tools to chip a large hole into the wall. They managed to bust through the wall and into a washroom on the 50th floor. A fireman directs them to a functioning elevator where Al convinces Jan not to take the stairs, arguing that it would take too long. They all manage to make it out alive.
      Laura Soldati worked on the 96th floor, and was on the 91st floor in a elevator when flight 11 hit the floor she was on. miraculously she survived (as everybody on the 91st floor escaped). Gerry Wertz was in another elevator with Vanessa Lawrence. Wertz worked on the 93rd floor while Lawrence was working on the 91st floor. She got off when flight 11 hit, and Gerry was thrown out of the elevator. Both people survived and escaped.
      Christopher Young was in the sky lobby (78th floor) and was trapped for around an hour before getting himself out. He was one of the last people to escape the North Tower.
      Anthony Savas was trapped in an elevator on the 78th floor (skylobby), and was saved by Frank De Martini, Pablo Ortiz, and John Griffin. All four men died sadly. Frank and Pablo kept looking for survivors, while Anthony and John were nearby the lobby together in a stairwell.
      Cynthia Giugliano was trapped in an elevator when flight 11 crashed. She never escaped. She worked on the 27th floor
      There’s a lot more stories but these are some I found or knew ahead of time."

      These 'missions' would never have even started unless the weather was perfect, as it was on the morning of 9/11.
      That said, the twin towers would have been discernable at night, but not as much as in the daytime. So, it's likely that at least one of them would have been hit.
      However, neither the Capitol building nor the Pentagon would have been anywhere near as visible at night as they were during they day, This would have reduced the probability that either of them would actually be hit.
      Let's not forget that this was terrorism, and that this was intended to be a visually terrifying set of attacks. So, masking the effects of the destruction in the darkness would have defeated some of the purpose of the attacks themselves. The damage would be visible the next day, but the surprise of it would not have been as spectacular, and that was much of the point in the first place.

    A great look into what the collapse would have looked like at night is the scene of the Chrysler building collapsing in Cloverfield. The hand held cam effect, the people running into stores, and the dust cloud enveloping the streets. That’s definitely what I think the collapse would have looked like from the ground if the attacks happened at night

    Imagine waking up to find out the twin towers are destroyed, there is debris all over the place, and the country is under attack and think about when it would collapse how scared would you be? You would be terrified but also waking up to find less casualties would be amazing but still it’s terrifying either way because where will the people go to work? What will they do next morning when they drive to the twin towers and see this while they try to go to work or even if they just see it on the news what now? Where do they work now? What will they do, they lost their job so now what?
    Crazy things to think about don’t you think?

    Again New York is not in the far east of the Eastern Time Zone, it is almost in what should be the center of it (75 deg. West longitude), which passes through nearby Philadelphia.
    Each time zone has a central meridian called a control meridian starting with 0 degrees longitude in Greenwich, England. Following this pattern - 1 UTM is 15 degrees West, - 2 UTM is 30 degrees West, -3 UTM is 45 degrees West, -4 UTM is 60 degrees West, and -5 UTM (Eastern Time Zone) is 75 degrees West. All of the midwest with the exception of the eastern half of Ohio, should be in Central Time Zone. Cincinnati is slightly closer to the 90-degree meridian that is the control meridian Central Time Zone than the 90-degree meridian that is the control meridian Eastern Time Zone. The Eastern Time Zone extends about 200 miles west of where it should be as a carryover from a time when most of the country's economic activity was on the East Coast making it advantageous to be on Eastern time. With states like Texas and California and Cities like Denver and Phoenix being far more populated that advantage is not as advantageous as it once was.

      @1867Phoenix Рік тому

      That's because he probably did not realize there is a difference between standard and daylight time when telling people what time zone a place is in. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people mistakenly use the term "Standard Time" for an event that occurred outside Arizona and Hawaii during Daylight Savings.

    Enough with the what if it’s nothing we can’t do now to bring back the towers and the people who were killed that day , 9/11 happened 22 years ago we just got to live with it now sometimes I wish and wonder what if things were to happen to prevent this tragic event but who am I to question God. Til this day I still remember that day very well I remember it was real nice outside clear skies and sun I was in school at the time when it happened I still remember parents running in our classroom to grab their child sad day that day and til this day I’ll never forget , my generation is still shock and shook up after this event even though it’s been 2 decades ago

    There was an outdoor dance series event called "Evening Stars" that was scheduled at 7pm during that week (9/10 through 9/16). It's likely that that event would have been going on, had the attack happened at night.

    another thing is, if it happened at night, im sure windows on the world would have still been open at night and people would have still been there and trapped up there, a long with the observation deck of the south tower, i would imagine a lot people would be rushing up to the observation deck of the south tower, thinking it was safe, so they could get a good view of the destruction in the north tower and then the second plane hits & it all goes down hill from there, so the body count might actually be HIGHER than most people are assuming...

  • @chaodo7020

    What if both planes managed to impact the buildings alot lower and at a center blocking all exits

    • @shazanali692
      @shazanali692 Рік тому +2

      When the towers were struck, between 16,400 and 18,000 people were in the WTC complex. Of those, the vast majority evacuated safely. As they rushed out, first responders rushed in trying to save those still trapped or injured.

    • @pyromaniac354
      @pyromaniac354 Рік тому +5

      I would think the buildings would of collapsed much quicker due to more weight above hence the second tower falling first but being hit last

    • @Markjw25
      @Markjw25 Рік тому +1

      If that happened, it could've lead to an even worse collapse. Say both planes somehow hit really low, doesn't even have to be in the center. The towers would not have stood for very long, before literally falling over like a Jenga block tower landing on other buildings or into each other causing way more damage and casualties.
