Every sound in this song, and in all of The Avalanches music is a sample. It's really incredible. They don't get the credit they deserve, not even a fraction of it. It's a unique microgenre of music called plunderphonics , btw. Which, obviously or not, means literally "stolen sounds". That's the reason it takes more than a decade for each new Avalanches album to be made. Not because they aren't working their asses off, but because every sound you hear is a sample that has to first be sourced, or found, then woven into a song with all the other samples, which would take long enough as it is, but then the band has to write to the owners of each sound sample, like if its taken from a certain movie or song, they have to write and ask for permission to use that sample, then wait to hear back and make sure they get the go ahead, or else they could, and very likely would in most cases, be sued. And if they never hear back, or hear back and the answer is no, then they have to scrap that whole element, and try to find something else that will work in its place. And if they can't find something else that will work in its place, or get permission to use THAT sample, or any others in that one song? Then they have to scrap the whole song. The entire scope of their work and how much goes into all of it is really too much for most of us to even wrap our heads around. I sort of wonder if they are even human sometimes, or if they are some sort of super powerful breed of aliens, or a small group of gods that got together out of the goodness of their hearts to create these gifts to mankind that each of their songs, much less each album, or their entire discography, is.
Thank you, The Avalanches. We truly are not worthy.
