Pigeons and doves constitute the bird family Columbidae and the order Columbiformes, which includes about 42 genera and 310 species. The related word "columbine" refers to pigeons and doves. Pigeons and doves are stout-bodied birds with short necks, and short slender bills that, in some species, feature fleshy ceres. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits, and plants. This family occurs worldwide, but the greatest variety is in the Indomalaya and Australasia ecozones. Pigeons and doves are likely the most common birds in the world.

Tbh, the rock pigeon (regular city pigeon) is beautiful as well, but is not seen that way because of how common they are. It is a similar case with the Passenger Pigeon, which no one thought much of because it used to be one of the most abundant birds in the world. Now, they are extinct.

It all comes from the human's misunderstanding about them. They don't carry more disease than normal pets do and they won't pass anything to u. Actually they r very clever, semi tame and clean birds. If there is water, they will bath themselves at least once every day, probably more than a lot of human being.

To people trying to say "X isn't a pigeon, it's a dove". Pigeons ARE doves. The typical grey and metallic green pigeons we see walking around are actually called Rock Doves. All pigeons are doves, but not all doves are pigeons.

I used to have a pair of pure white fantails, they are pretty cheap compared to their beauty and size and locally known as Lakkhas in our country Bangladesh. Love them a lot.

Pigeons are intelligent creatures with a highly developed emotional capability and it is very wrong to subject them (or any animal) to the cruelty and inherent danger of dove releases. The birds are driven miles away from their homes and forced to fly all of the way back. Their colouring makes them an easy target for hawks, many of them succumb to thirst, starvation and exhaustion and die slowly and terrified and alone. At least 10% are not expected to make it home.
