I am brazilian and I cannot understand even a single word in this music. But I know what it is about. It is about freedom, hope and goodness. That is what I felt listening you, from Norway. In Brazil we are working hard to build a democracy as Norway. Thanks for your example of freedom and social justice.
It's a translation of Pete Seeger's "My Rainbow Race", although not a direct translation. Singing the song is also a middle-finger to the terrorist that killed 77 people July 22nd, 2011, who said he specifically hates this song.
As a barzilien you should REALLY know this. We rich people take YOUR!!!! land and destroy the posibility for our kids to maintain it.. He wrote this ages ago.Think 50 yers he has now passed, that was also the last live performance he ever did. and this is 11 years ago. This dude is a legend in Norway. Mostly for caring. and of course a brilliant folk singer and pointing out we are fucking it up. He was right
Norway's people are so inspiring ... love will always overcome hate ... and please, most American's are not these hate filled poor souls that watch foxtv... you have inspired our little family and have given us hope for the world. Love and Light to all.
The singing takes longer than shown in this video. Just as this video cuts they start singing in english. Search: Thousands of Norwegians in Youngstorget Square singing Pete Seeger's "My Rainbow Race"
you are right to correct me. Deep down I know this. And I suppose a further point is that deep down almost everyone is decent and good and Norwegian society is predicated on that belief, building on it, spending lots of state money on it. Full-employment has always been a major idea in Norway: and that everyone NEEDS a good education, a decent place to live, a job, good schools for their kids, universal healthcare and a secure pension in old age. Breivik is about creating division
Impressive, how Norway deals with Right-Wing-Terrorism...Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Could anyone translate the lyrics to English?
In fact, even the Labor party that had its youth organization attacked by Breivik has expelled a muslim member, merely for professing that whether homosexuals should be executed or not was a religious question, which is a fairly uncontroversial point for most muslims. If push ever comes to shove about such issues, all the people in this crowd will happily take up arms in defense of a cause that's eerily similar to what Breivik claimed his motivation was.
Unfortunately, this singing is horribly misguided, as were all the other talk of "meeting hatred with love". The fact of the matter is that this approach doesn't even engage the problem that you have a fast growing cult in Europe that has an inedible religious political agenda that none of the people standing in this crowd would be willing to accept. Which makes the whole thing seem incredibly hollow.
Proud to live on this Earth with people like Norway people!!!
Best from Italy!
Melodien ble alles eie i Norge. Alle ble glad i den sangen. ❤❤❤❤❤
I only recently learned about this. It brings tears to my eyes and my heart swells with pride to share these bloodlines.

Flott sang med med mening. Laget av Pete Seeger. Oversatt til Norsk av Lillebjørn Nilsen.
Please, show some respect. This is a way for the Norwegians to show that love is bigger then terrorism. A way to handle the horror the struck us.
Together, we are stronger!

This is the original lyrics 😊'
My Rainbow Race' Words and music by Pete Seeger (1967)
© 1970 by Sanga Music Inc.
CHORUS:
One blue sky above us,
One ocean lapping all our shores,
One Earth so green and round,
Who could ask for more?
And because I love you,
I’ll give it one more try.
To show my Rainbow Race
It’s too soon to die.
Some folks want to be like an ostrich,
Bury their heads in the sand.
Some hope that plastic dreams
Can unclench all those greedy hands.
Some hope to take the easy way,
Poisons, bombs, they think we need ‘em.
Don’t you know you can’t kill all the unbelievers?
There’s no shortcut to freedom.
CHORUS
Go tell, go tell all----- the little children.
Tell all their mothers and fathers, too --
Now’s our last chance to learn to share
What’s been given to me and you.
CHORUS
Missed 1 day.. 13 years today..
1 dislike, probably Breivik ...
(-: from germany.
