In this song alone, you can see Aida's inner struggle, torn between her love for Radames and her devotion to her people. Aida truly is a strong heroine.
Elton and Tim!!!!!!!!! RISE!!!!!!!!!!! Rare gift to be living while such MAGIC arises on Broadway.....grateful to have seen such when it was first thrown onto THE WORLD to experience.......
I love this song and this musical and I feel so blessed to be playing Aida in my school's production of this! I can't wait to perform this song on stage!
This is the moment when the gods expect me To beg for help but I won't even try I want nothing in the world but myself to protect me But I won't lie down, roll over and die All I have to do is to forget how much I love him All I have to do is put my longing to one side Tell myself that love's an ever-changing situation Passion would have cooled and all the magic would have died It's easy, it's easy All I have to do is to pretend I never knew him On those very rare occasions when he steals into my heart Better to have lost him when the ties were barely binding Better the contempt of the familiar cannot start It's easy, it's easy Until I think about him as he was when I last touched him And how he would have been were I to be with him today Those very rare occasions, don't let up, they keep on coming All I ever wanted and I'm throwing it away It's easy, it's easy as life And then I see the faces of a worn defeated people A father and a nation who won't let a coward run Is this how the gods reward the faithful through the ages? Forcing us to prove that all the hardest things we've done Are easy, so easy And though I'll think about him until the earth draws in around me And though I choose to leave him for another kind of love This is no denial, no betrayal, but redemption Redeemed in my own eyes and in the pantheon above It's easy, it's easy as life It's easy as life It's easy as life
This is one of my favourite Broadway songs by a female lead purely because I remember how they had to black out the lights to get Heather to finish the last note. :P
This was by far the best broadway show I’ve seen. Her voice is like incomparable to anything. She’s my favorite! Love the story and everything about it
Do you relly think disney is going to adapt a show that was made 20 years ago, has a love triangle, and has all but one of the main characters die(Aida, Radames, Nehebka, Mereb, Zoser, Pharoah)?
@Lara Olmsted I get where you're coming from. But I'd seen this play when I was around 8-10 years old at a high school play. Kids can take it. Not to mention, there's "The Prince of Egypt", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Hercules". The first one wasn't made by Disney (though "Aida" could've been Disney's answer to that film) but all three were family films that can get dark and risque at times. Besides, Disney wasn't made for JUST kids, but for everyone in their family. I mean, look at "The Little Match Girl", it was a short but Disney had (for once) stayed faithful to the adaption in the most depressing way possible.
This song makes my heart hurt. I was just Aida in a production of this show. It has been my dream roll since forever and I just really miss the show. I miss my cast mates who played Amneris and Radames. I wish I had one last opportunity to play the role one more time. This song was my song for two months and I didn’t realize how much I miss it until it was over.

We have solo and ensemble so I wanted to do a class a musical piece and I had to do a German song called Bistdobimer (IDK if I'm spelling it right) but they didnt have this song o. The list so I found another song from the musical I Know The Truth and I was 1 point away from going to state but of course I didn't move as much as the judge wanted me to so I got a point of for that but I started to cry during this song for so many reasons 1 my grandmother wasn't there and this is her fav musical she was in Florida they left to days before and it reminded me of my late grandma gin who got to go see it in NYC with the original cast and she gave me the CD to it on her death bed the day before she died 2 1/2 years ago
I imagine it would be spelled as "Bist du bei mir" since you're just spelling it out how it would phonetically be spelled in English. It means "are you with me/by me (when translated literally)"
The sheer power and strength of her voice😭👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
i had a friend in my Musical Theatre class and she got to perform this song, it was so beautiful. she did such an amazing job.
you're such a sweet friend
I love that there's a little bit of Dance of the Robe just before she starts singing about her people, great bit of musical symbolism there.
You mean the musical motif started in Dance of the Robe? That was one of my favorites

I couldn't agree less

Better the contempt of the familiar cannot start

And how he would have been were I to be with him today
Those very rare occasions, don't let up, they keep on coming

cyrodilicbrandy when was that? She's a fan of sustaining notes lol.

Dear Disney,
Instead of remaking everything under the sun, why not adapt this gem already?!
Do you relly think disney is going to adapt a show that was made 20 years ago, has a love triangle, and has all but one of the main characters die(Aida, Radames, Nehebka, Mereb, Zoser, Pharoah)?
@@MrJoeChip Didn't stop them before. Just look at "The Lion King".

Lara Olmsted I think he means how lion king was based off of Hamlet where pretty much half of the cast die.
Yes! And have Heather Headley voice Aida!

How was the show? I’m sure they miss you just as much-theater castmates never truly forget one another.

Were easy
When she said “eeezeeeYUH” at 3:54 ...I felt that.
Favorite song in the entire musical.
I'm singing this for an audition :) Can't wait! I love this song so much!
Love this song! Oh my I thought it was called Easy as a Lie for the longest time *face palm*
ME TOO
+Lise Bean Saaaaaame
+Lise Bean Me too...made more sense to me that way
I did too. Somehow I think it'd be better that way. "Easy as a lie", like how it'd be easy to lie to herself, but at the same time lies aren't easy.
Lise Bean I think I would have liked it even better if she had said "lie" instead of life lol. But regardless this song gives me chills😍
this song is soo beautiful!!! im considering using it for my college auditions!!
are you kidding me?! This is so amazing I'm dead.

Nice
How does one person make Aida in to a film and on west end in London. I am afraid has and will make. The Greatest Showman (I love) will do this now.
