I grew up with him as, Mr. Harvey the school teacher and once he started doing shows bald, I figured he lost his hair because of all the stress those kids on Mr. Harvey put him through.

It's so true. My wife and I went to a chuuuch service at a black church of Christ in north Florida years ago...we were the only white people there, and could not have been treated better nor welcomed more warmly.

I attend a Missionary Aliance church which is a kind of church that focuses heavily on missionary work, in my case, its a Chinese church and I always found it funny that not only was my family the only non Chinese family there, but my Dad was also the engilsh pastor. I've always been aware of cultural differences when it comes to worhsiping God because of this and its rather interesting; in my church its very calm, quiet, and has a deep sense of community and the part that kinda sucked about the whole thing was that if you were apart of the community, that's great, if you weren't than it kinda sucked (I was in the latter part up until last year); one of our sister churches is predominately white and while it was more lively, it didn't have that same sense of community. I'd say the most interesting church I've been to was one in Guatemala, it was four hours long, twice a week, and for 3 1/2 hours I was convinced that they were testing out sound weapons with how loud the music was (it was done with more passion than I've ever seen any one put into anything ever and it was amazing, but when you can feel your skull vibrate it becomes less pleasant after an hour).
ooooh man If Steve had looked passed on or failed at comedy and become pastor I'd probably end up making it one of my life goals to attend one of his church services in person.
Profound how Steve highlights the difference between those who brought the religion to those the religion was brought too.
Although it makes me wonder if it's purely a race cultural difference or a denomination difference (he did mention he went to a white Catholic Church, in particular.)
I'm not Christian but, in Judaism, many prayers start off with with "Blessed are you Hashem, Oh Lord, King of the Universe." Often followed by listing things God did. And depending on what type of prayer you're doing, and it's purpose, you may use different titles for God.
So it could be that Black churches, apart from being culturally different, may based off of different religious traditions in the first place (I could be wrong, but I think most Black churches are either Baptist or originate from Baptism--It would be interesting to compare how White Baptists pray versus Black Baptists.)
They brought us the New Testament but the Old Testament has always been in our soul but we just reject it So The God our Father Abraham Isaac and Jacob beating us upside the head right now for being so damn hard headed especially worshipping Jesus and Allah. He don't like when we have other Gods along side him. That's why we got enslaved in the first place

As a white person, I remember watching comedians like Steve Harvey and Sinbad in the 80s and 90s and enjoying their humor. I remember laughing at myself as a white person, and also laughing at quirks of black people. Now... I feel racist no matter what I say or do. I've been basically bullied into shrinking back into the white world, and being called names because I watch old shows like Living Single (one of the best sitcoms ever made!). I am not sure how watching "Living Single" makes me racist against black people, but those 20-somethings really made me feel that way. I thought racism was avoiding black entertainment. Now, it seems that if a white person enjoys black entertainment, somehow I am racist now.
I have no idea what the feck is going on in the world right now, but it feels bad, and I don't like it.

You can only really be true to yourself. As long as you know your heart and mind is in the right place, be comforted by that. In this day and age people will give you an identity that will stick if you agree to it, so I would say in order to counter this become clear in your beliefs and become confident in exerting these. When you are coming from a genuine place, it will eventually shine through 🤗

Accurate for some people, but inaccurate for hundreds of millions of others. There is no set way a white or any other color person prays. Every church is different. I am white and sometimes I pray in both ways he described, and sometimes by prayers can last seconds, while other times they can last hours. Sometimes they are quiet and simple and other times I am loud and boisterous. I believe in praying in the way that you are led by the spirit to pray, just as the bible teaches us!
But I ain't ask for nothing hahaha

I think there's some exceptions to this. I'm white and I grew up in a church with jumping, yelling, dancing, loud music and singing, etc. That's where I'm most comfortable - not a quiet, calm church.

Poor Steve has never been to a Pentecostal church or an Apostolic church! Those are some hybrid kind of Christians. Also, the churches are mostly interracial. I was raised in California. We didnt have racism as a kid. We had neighborhoods. You knew what neighborhood not to be in without a invite or escort. But when we left the hood, we acted good to each other. The golden rule was taught to all.

No, honestly, I belonged to 3 black churches in my time ,and I am not black, and couldnt understand a lifeless white church anymore and it took a lot of time to get use to people who looked like me again! Lol!
I’ve never been a big church goer, but my mother in law was. Her church had a group come up from Detroit. ( we live in Canada). She LOVED it! Great music and passion. Our church music is BRUTAL.... and boring. But I wished I would have gone, when they were here.

That wasn't a "black people's prayer." Prayer has nothing to do with the color of someones skin. It was simply a prayer and I have heard similar in many different churches with many different kinds of people.
