Hi Christi I'm so glad you're with FireMountain doing tutorials. This video is awesome! You have great ideas and great tips to share with us viewers. You give the inspiration and get our own creative juices going. To those viewers who dislike the pendant (video) you don't necessarily have to make the same thing. It's the how to and why that needs to be understood and then do your own thing. They're not saying to do exact same thing as shown. Be Thankful that they sharing with us their ideas and tips. So Thank you Christi and Fire Mountain.
I think I might just be your new biggest fan. Thank you for sharing!
I think we'd all like to learn what you've already forgotten! Thanks for being one of my major heroes!!
Thank you Christi! So helpful! Excellent presentation.
Christi is very well spoken. Great tutorial.
Christi!!! That tape trick!!! WOW - thank you for that especially!
Very nice demo, and beautiful results. Will definitely try this! Thanks for sharing :)
Really enjoy this video! Great idea's Thanks for Sharing Liz.
Great technique. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic technique.
This was a great tutorial! I'm so glad you brought in another material with the beads. I hope you will continue to create more polymer clay and bead tutorials. It looks great together.
sagala40 3641brownsville . so glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for taking the time to let us know. -Elle
Something I didn't know, thanks for sharing Christi can't wait to try it out :)
Such an amazing video! Thank you so much for the video!!!
I'm off to try it now! Love it!
I remember seeing this coincidentally years ago and was so inspired. I'd never worked with polymer clay until seeing this video. I've spent about 6 years working with p/clay & trying to find this exact video again because I wanted to reference your method. I LOVE this technique and I'm so, so glad I found this vid again! 🥰
Wonderful! So happy to hear that!
Very cool!
Great trick....Thanks
Hi Christi! Thank you for this demo on adding CZ to polymer clay. It's right up-to-the-moment for me, as I've just discovered CZ's and wanted to add it to a mokume gane laminate covering a tiny hinge-lidded tin. Used Fimo Effect with 'glitter' and added a star-shaped CZ right in an area that had an 'accidental' star burst within the laminate pattern! Fabulous! Thank you SO much! Wish I could send it for you to see!
Hi Althea, thanks for sharing your comments.
Excellent advice! Im mostly a wire wrapper, but I just got a parcel of gemstones and many of them are just too small to wrap. Now I know I can definitely use them as little accents in a poly pendant. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful and thank you for watching, Amber!
Amazing!!
dope tutorial.
Wow, really cool technique. Thanks for sharing! :)
I love you upbeat personality! Thanks for sharing!
I must admit I never thought to look for Fire Mountain Gems And Beads on UA-cam. I have been buying from you guys for about 15 years. One time I was on the phone ordering some silver and gold a lady on the phone asked me if I was interested in working for the company and I didn't take her up on it, wish I had. I am a lamp work bead maker now but back then I just made jewelry to sell locally.
+Lori Strout Thank you so much for your loyalty throughout the years, Lori! We are happy to hear you found us on UA-cam. We have a ton of videos and continue to add them. Enjoy! - Melissa
You’re just a genius!
Love this! Thank you
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching.
realy good!
Very interesting ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! 🙂
Great instructions!! Well spoken, to the point. I will make this necklace. Thanks
Joy Kiefner
I hope you made yours pretty and not hideous like the styling of this one though.
Thank You.
Gosh! Could this video get any more jam packed with tips?!! Many thanks from Ireland!
So glad! Thanks for watching.
Hi, what color gold of pearl ex mica powder would give me more of a vintage antique look over blues & greens?
That was great, I hadn't known how to do it. Thank you
Glad to help. Thanks for watching!
great tips! love it
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
Maravilhoso, muito obrigada.
+Carmen Rigotti Thanks, so glad you enjoyed this video! -Elle
Is it possible to bake real opals in Polymer Clay?
I love this tutorial!
Thank you. Very useful video.
🌲🌝☘️
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tip! I have been considering using Pearl Ex behind the labradorite cabochons I want to use as eyes on a piece in the future. Any advice against that, or would that work the same?
That would look awesome! Go for it!!
Where can I purchase polymer?
Very good,
Thanks
:-)
what was that name of the thing you put on the clay with the brush around the gemstone? and that doesn´t burn or anything when you put it in the oven later? i´m pretty new at this kind of stuff but i want to learn more about adding glitter, gemstones etc on polymer clay.
Christi is using Mica Powder to create that pop of color. Here's a link to that product: fmg.co/NaJpID . Here's also another link about Mica Powder: fmg.co/9y2gd0 . The powder bakes into the clay and doesn't burn when used properly. Give it a try!! It's really a cool way to add color and a metallic look to a polymer clay piece!
Great video. I have subscribed. We wanted to put some polymer clay on top of a gemstone when making a dragon pendant. The idea was some black polymer clay would be the pupil of the dragon's eye and we would use some white polymer clay on the gemstone as the shine of the eye. Do you know if the polymer clay will flake off the gemstone?
Hmm, over time it probably will.
awesome
+marshmellow pop So glad your enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm! -Elle
Hi there, this is so informative thank you so much! Do you think this will work with air dry clay?
You're welcome and thanks for watching. It should...give it a try!
what about using UV resin? will that work?
Are there any stones that shouldn't be baked? I have an assortment I'd like to use (turquoise, obsidian, fluorite, quartz, amethyst...) but I have been worried about ruining the stones.
+Andrea Lucero . To my knowledge, natural gemstone will be ok in polymer clay baking temps. Imitation stones may contain wax and dyes that may experience adverse effects to the heat. Some natural stones such as chrysoprase may experience color changes as they are affected by sunlight. Unfortunately, testing is the best way to know for sure. Hope this helps! -Elle
Ms. Christi! Love your creations, and your videos, thank YOU! I have a question...I make resin poured crystal points, will these also go into the oven, like the gemstones, with the PC? I know it probably depends on the resin "brand" but "in general" try it, or no, your house will blow up? Thank you LOL! :) xoxo
Hi there. We're glad to hear you're enjoying Christi's videos. We would not recommend putting resin in an oven.
Thank you SO MUCH for this fantastic video. I've been making jewellery for a few years now and recently I became interested in polymer clay. And I got to thinking: wow, wouldn't it be great to combine the two together?!! I have some polymer clay and some lovely Swarovski rivolis and I would love to do the project you did on your video, substituting a rivoli or 3 for the unbacked stone you used. Can I do that? I was also wondering about gluing flat - backed crystals on to baked polymer clay? What do you think? Love from Amanda in Australia xoxo :-) :-)
Hi Amanda. Thanks for watching and we're glad you found a new medium to work with. Rivoli's can be baked in polymer clay, however if you are doing that, you'll want to make sure there's a lip over the edge of the rivoli. Otherwise they will pop off. You absolutely can glue flatback crystals onto polymer clay. Here's an excellent video which Christi uses flatbacks to make sparkly flowers: www.firemountaingems.com/resources/videos/e64l
Is there any glue that can be used to adhere some other type of bead within it?
Hi Lynn. Because polymer clay is baked, you are limited to beads that are not going to melt that are embedded into the clay before baking. If you wanted to adhere a bead after the baking process, you can make an indentation in the clay where you want the bead to be adhered to after baking and then use a glue like a 2-part epoxy of even E-6000 to glue the bead into the indentation. Hope that helps.
how do I know if what I have is Polymer Clay? When I search for Polymer Clay at walmart Sculpey bake shop oven-bake clay shows up, But it does not say Polymer Clay on the package. Any help would be great.
Hi Cassandra! There are different brands of polymer clay and Kato Polyclay, Premo! Sculpey Clay and Fimo Polymer clay are just a few of the most commonly used ones. The keywords 'oven baked clay' is a good way to determine if the item you're looking at is polymer clay or not. I hope this helps!
I like your demo where are you located
Hi! What gem stone is this? Can all gem stone go into the oven with the clay?
Hello. Christi is using a clear cubic zirconia. Here is a link to the faceted gemstones we offer: www.firemountaingems.com/shop/faceted_gems Since polymer clay bakes at a low temp, most gemstones can be baked with the clay and damage is unlikely. However, never bake opals, pearls or very soft stones with a low MOHS hardness.
Very informative but why don’t I just use foil backed gems and skip a step?
Very good question. You can absolutely just get stones with the foil back and then you wouldn't need to worry about it. If though you happen to find a color or specific shape you enjoy that doesn't have a foil backing, keep this tip in the back of your head for future use ;)
Does this type of clay shrink after baking?
msj6034
No, Polymer clay does not shrink after baking.
Great question! Polymer clay doesn't tend to shrink any noticeable amount. It's really more of the precious metal clays that have an actual percentage of shrinkage because the binder is burning off. Christi prefers to use Premo! Sculpey. If you'd like to learn about Premo! or other polymer clay brands to figure out which works best for you here is a handy compare and contrast article: bit.ly/2mtuQ6K.
Mai Lee Cyprus Im not sure what your deal is, but insulting someone elses idea of art is a sure fire way to having a closed mind. Its ok to not like something, and of course it is your right to speak your mind, but maybe also think about what effect it has. Is it helpful, productive, or necessary? in this case no to all, because it was simply a negative opinion, and personally, I think this necklace is very pretty. And if everyone made things exactly how you liked them they wouldnt very well be unique and personal. Its kind of like that age old saying, if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all.
With that, ***** I think this tutorial is awesome and exactly what I was looking for, I was also wondering though, I love to work with druzy stones and just raw stones, cabachons, etc. but its typically always like amethyst, moonstone, that sort of stuff. Do you know if those are safe to bake and use in this same method? I would hate to ruin one of the moonstones Im wanting to use. Please let me know if you can, thank you :)

Your opinion of my opinion is of no concern to me. Your delightful words will not make this necklace less terrible.
okidoki. continue being a negative person then, thats your internal body damage not mine :) have a wonderful day.
+Mai Lee Cyprus I think it was just an example just to show how you could do it..I learned a new trick and was glad for the info..You do not have to copy hers exactly! Use your own imagination..make something you like..If not then scroll on, watch a different vid.. there was no need to be ignorant. The jewelry that sells the most is what I would personally consider terrible and gaudy! Things you'd think that no one in a million years would buy..But guess what?? It's those types of pieces that I see actually SELLING!! Just because you feel the way you do doesn't mean someone else would feel the same..I'm sure it was just an example anyways! Its downright rotten of you to insult the artist!!

Very cool! Can you use this technique with real gem stones?
Hi after more than 30 years of using polymer clay and working for a company that made polymer clay jewellery I discovered that the recommended time on the package is totally wrong. 10 minutes is not enough if you want a piece of clay that cracks and breaks with little pressure. If you want to make it totally unbreakable or uncuttable you need to cook it at a low temperature say 100 degrees for roughly 2 hours but you may need to experiment with the time and temp which is what I did because the company I worked for could not stop them breaking so I went home and experimented with my oven for weeks until I found the right temperature. and they were wrapped. That's Australian temperature so don't know what U.S temperature is.
Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Are you working in Celsius or Farenheit?
Hi as i said in the UA-cam message I have no idea what Australian ovens use. Maybe Google it.!!!!!
Thanks for your feedback!
Fire Mountain Gems and Beads, have you heard anymore information on the baking time on the clay?
It would be nice to see tge work ip close and not everything around the instructors
沒譯成中文聽不懂、太可惜了
you are super sweet
You are so kind. Thanks for watching!
The technique is useful however the styling of the pendant is atrocious.
Mai Lee Cyprus you are so rude - this awful and hurtful comment has 0 purpose, except for you to have the satisfaction of sharing a negative and hurtful opinion with no positive outcome.
We all have different dates. Just because yours is different doesn't mean that you should tell others that what they like is "atrocious"
I sincerely hope that karma has gotten you back for this ten fold by now. I'm sure that it has.
Lol, karma...wtf?! I agree with Mai Lee. Useful techniques, fugly design.
Mai Lee Cyprus Your manners are atrocious.
