Really Right Stuff Ballhead Cleaning and Maintenance

Short tutorial on how to properly clean and maintain Really Right Stuff ballheads with some basic household items.

I used my RRS-55 ball head near the ocean for a several hour time lapse. i have done all the steps you suggested for cleaning but the knobs and ball are still kind of "sticky". not the incredibly smooth operation it had when new.
there is no visible anything on it.
Suggestions?

I need help as the two knobs on my RRS ballhead are so tight neither my myself nor my husband can loosen them!! I'm in Sydney Australia so time difference makes calling less than convenient.
