@anongator i have an XTL 5000 with a remote mount head. I recently purchased one of the Motorola Systems 9000 siren. I have the DEK Bar, Cable, etc. Should be everything i need to set it up. What all do i need to do to the XTL's codeplug to use the Siren? I cant find anything on Radio Reference, BatLabs Board, etc. Could you assist me? I know the 2500 and 5000 arent that different
@@luish19779 I've got some of the boxes available if you want to email me. These can do up to 130w output if I remember right, you just have to repin the cable
Could you do a quick video on the basic wiring for the XTL with remote head? I got a used unit and I believe I have it wired correctly but the unit will not power on. I want to rule out my wiring arrangement before I consider the unit bricked and send it back lol
Not much wiring to do, yellow and red to 12v power, black to negative. Blue remote cable from the brick to the head. Red and black on the brick to 12v and negative like normal, in some cases you may need to connect the red ignition sense cable on the accessory port of the brick to 12v
@@anongator That’s exactly how I’ve got mine and I even tried running the ignition cable off the brick. I’m drawing 12+ out of the remote cable pins on the brick and likewise for the remote head, so it seems like it’s getting power everywhere it needs to. I’m guessing the LCD is toast on the head. Hopefully I can get a replacement from the seller. Thanks for your reply!
Do you need a DEK box to connect a Motorola siren to an XTL5000? If so, where can I get one of the cables that go from the radio head to DEK box? I have all of the other parts. THANKS!
If your using a W7 or W9 the DEK isn't needed. However all other ones need the DEK, especially the Os. I got my O to DEK and W to DEK cables from a friend. But you can find them on eBay
@@anongator Thanks very much. Like you said, I'm going to program just the PA and Air Horn because to the best of my knowledge (retired police), Air Horn is not considered a siren tone. After all, tractor trailers have air horns. I think it would be hard for the police to ticket an electric generated one as opposed to an air generated one. I would have never ticketed anyone unless they were using real siren tones. Just one guys opinion!
@@anongator Good to know. I'm in Maryland. I've never seen it written in law (in MD) that air horn is illegal. If I ever was written a ticket for it, I would certainly argue my point in court and I think I'd have a pretty good chance of winning. Of course if I abused it, there is a misuse of horn law here. Thanks for all of your trial and error work. Saves me a lot figuring it out for myself!
Oh shoot. UA-cam wasn't showing what video this was on.... you mean the siren tones..... I was thinking the QC2 tones.. yea ill add that to the list. I had to take everything apart temporarily but ill get to that
The Astro Spectra siren box cable. They are getting harder to find thanks to boneheaded departments that slice and dice them when uninstalling dispite it being a 3ft long cable......
For me it was I just wanted to see how it all connects and I just happened to have the equipment on hand. For the rest of the people out there...... Wackers... that and volunteer FFs
mmmm reminds me of watching SPD watcher back in the day. Seattle pd loved that siren and so do i
The siren is quite good. I might look at getting a Smart Siren as you can hook them up the same way

Time for some high risk funeral escorts!
You know the model number of that keypad microphone? I looking the original keypad mic for Motorola MCS2000 Model 2 UHF radio?
I can pull the model off later. But it's not going to work for the MCS, nor was there made for the MCS, only the black keypadless ones
Thanks for the info. Now I buy this brick, but 100 watts

Depends on the state law. In Texas its legal, but I know there's one or two states that it's illigal for use.

Can you do another demo with each tones played for 3 times?
I can't control how many times the tone repeats in a row. Unless you mean send the qc2 pair 3 times
@@anongator I mean let the tones play a bit longer
If it hurts your ears, covering the speakers with some cloths helps lower the volume

Not off the top of my head, the tag on mines non existent

Where do I find the siren set up and the cable to plug it in to head
Ebay, search Astro Spectra Siren box. The cables are rare and getting quite expensive

No. It's just a checkbox
