Great episode Tyler & Steven with Jeff. Didn't expect the coaching cycle to get so crazy the last few days! So many good choices available now, looking forward to seeing how they construct the new staff. Family & health are all that matters in the end. Wishing good health & happiness to Corey & his family. One of my favourites ⚡️
Both Tyler and Steve asked excellent pointed questions. Some answers brought up visions of trying to nail down jello. But, I knew he was a good judge of talent and teamwork when he commented on the Chargers/Vikings game that he attended. 😉 Love your podcasts.
Great interview, guys! This is really premium content over other podcasts. Thank you, Jeff, for coming on and giving insight. Tyler, your mike is slightly low, was hard to hear you.
Gentlemen, that was a really informative and enjoyable interview. You did your homework so the session went smooth and allowed your guest to pass along a lot of good information. Save this one and use it to format future interviews. Well done.
I cannot believe we have Saban retiring, Carroll fired, Belichick and Tomlin possibly also gone from their positions. That's the top 4 of HC legends right now. What times we live in...the times they are a-changing, as Dylan said.
They have a GREAT person in-house! Kevin Kelly has been responsible for their drafts for last 10 years, clearly he knows talent as the Charger's have drafted better than 90% of all teams ... Chargers are loaded with talent and he has been responsible for it. Finding talent is the best attribute of any GM, just look at solid teams like the Steelers, Packers, 49rs, etc... They all draft really well.
In case the Spanos Family are reading this: What the chargers need is a culture change. Where the players on the bottom half of the roster is maximized, so when inevitably there are injuries, the next man up is prepared to step up and play well. The team needs to have strength all across the roster, especially the trenches because that means you always have a chance to win the game and for someone else to step up and make plays. Last half decade, the roster has been too top heavy. The most successful teams have the best roster 1-52 and the best coaches create a culture where some of the guys from the bottom half of the roster are still difference makers and make winning plays. If your secondary is struggling one game, your d-line is wreaking havoc and vice versa. If your pass game is struggling your run game is getting something done. Football is all about overcoming adversity and that requires a team that is truly "all-in" not just half the guys care and half the guys are collecting pay checks.
I'm NOT a coach. But, if I were interviewing for the job, I would say that I noticed they have a lack of discipline team wide. I would also point out their inability to block and tackle. So, I would start there with focusing on basic fundamentals. Also, on conditioning. As Philip Rivers said, it's not who's the toughest. It's who's the toughest the longest. So what if you are ahead at the start of the 4th quarter if you allow the other team to come back and beat you in the 4th quarter. That I would give back up players more reps in practice so that I can rotate players in and out to keep starters fresh for the 4th quarter, and so that back ups are ready to step in when a player goes down. Then of course, try to design my offense and defense to put players in a position to succeed rather than this is my system and force them to do things they are not capable of doing. And, have game plans to attack the opponents weaknesses both on offense and defense. defend against their strength and attack their weakness. I know, cliches.
Get Harbaugh first! What GM is going to know more about the next three draft classes then Jim??if you get the GM first it might derail our hopes of landing Jim if he doesn't like the hire .Chargers going to blow this
Even if he did (which I don't believe would be the case for many candidates) the GM role extends to cap, analytics (potentially), contract negotiations, all football operations etc etc. Want someone who can handle all of that too!
Agree with everything Jeff said, or felt he was correct, except about one thing - "the Chargers had a strange year this year" -- no, Jeff, no. The Chargers had a very typical, expected year. Disaster all around. Chargering up the wazoo. The Chargers had a Chargers year. Boiler plate, poster child, generic Chargers year. Nothing strange at all by Charger standards. By normal sane, rational, competent, uncursed standards, sure
You guys did great this year representing on the Chargers channel !!!! Bring on '24 !!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🙏🏻
Thank you! 🎉

Corey should be the new o-line coach he is that kinda guy
I think he could certainly get into coaching later but he said he's gonna take some time off FWIW

pretty sure Carroll stepped away, otherwise he woulnt be with the Seahawks as their advisor
That hoodie that Tyler has on is dope!
The SoFi team store exclusive gear is freaking amazing
I think fans need to R E L A X and know that an interview DOES NOT = a hire. They’re just doing research.
Yup exactly!

I’m voting Chargers / GAC 2024.
We'll run on the platform of building through the trenches
Pretty nearly every COTY has also been fired at some point - Vrabel, Rivera, Garrett, Arians, et al.
I wouldn’t mind Giff being the defensive coordinator

I absolutely said that Rivers quote in his voice and I love that one. I'll have to keep it in mind

Why wouldnt they be interviewing and hiring a GM before a HC?
because they're the Chargers...and Spanos always gets it wrong.
Depends on the candidates ultimately. Theoretically, Harbaugh would want to work with his own guy.

Core linsley as O line coach ?
First Step - Hire Daniel Jeremiah as GM
DJ has said he is not interested FWIW.
Fire Staley again
Tyler…please stop nodding after every single word 😅😫😭
Chargers fans will be so disappointed if we can have Jim Harbaugh.
