oh there’s no doubt about it!!!
Books that genuinely make me cry and feel a broad range of emotions are my favorite! I want to laugh out loud, I want to gasp, I want to giggle and kick my feet, I want to cry and I want the book to make me keep thinking about it weeks & months and years after I read it. Those are the 5 star reads for me
that's so fair!! I like sad books if they also bring me joy, but I just hate it when it's just sad sad sad the whole time 🥲 but I do love a book that makes me gasp and giggle and kick my feet so I agree!!!

If Rachel reads All The Light We Cannot See then i'm reading it. I have been putting it off for the longest time because i'm scared, so this might be the motivation i need.
Oh my god same. I don't like reading sad books. For me reading has always been a way to escape reality and so I want to spend my time reading happy books that in turn make me happy. So it was so nice to hear that I am not the only one who thinks like that.
100% Books are my entertainment, and entertainment should make me feel happy

i feel the same about sad books! i don't mind if it gets sad in places, but I need a happy ending, and if it has a lot of sad, dark moments, I need those little happy moments to get me through

All the Light We Cannot See is actually my favorite book. I finished re-reading it in the beginning of January, and I can only say that that book is a complete and utter masterpiece in my opinion. It a book that when thinking about it, genuinely makes me want to cry.
A new Destiny video and a new Rachel video is exactly the start to the week I needed
definitely recommend the defy the night trilogy by Brigid kemmer ! the third book just came out and its a great YA fantasy series imo :))

All the Light We Cannot See is devastatingly sad but not until the end. It’s absolutely amazing! I read it for the first time when I was 12 but reading it again at 20 forever changed me. I highly recommend!!

Ooo i totally get you about not wanting to feel sad. I’ll say, All The Light We Cannot See will make you cry BUT it’s not one of those soul-crushing books like A Little Life, for example. It’s very beautiful written, has a good ending, and it’s easy to love. If you’re not in the mood for it, then it’s okay to skip it! It’d probably be better for maybe a chill rainy day or something.

I feel like it depends on the book whether I want it to be sad, like if I know it is sad , like a really sad book it depends on my mood if I want to read it but if it’s a sad book but the story moves me and makes me actually feel the emotions and moves me but I know what I was getting into then I enjoy it ! Totally a mood reader here if that makes sense lol

Holding Up the Universe (I swear if this book is like ATBP I will FREAK OUT)
Winter, Stars Above, and Fairest (I’m 300 pages into Winter and have like 600 more but I’m so scared to finish)
Believe Me (I read the Shatter Me series in August but didn’t want it to be over completely, lol)
The Winner’s Crime + The Winner’s Curse
I don’t know if I’ll read all of these or if I’ll choose others but in total we have 9 books (Counting Fairest and Believe Me as 1 book because they’re both Novellas)

My best friend got me All the light we cannot see for my birthday last month, and I finished it in four days, it was so heartwhechingly beautiful and I highly recommend you read it!! Love your videos!

I read All the Light We Cannot See, the writing was really good the author was able to explain/show the reader what is going on without it being pages long! Very different from any other book I have read but was really good!! :)

I don’t have a monthly TBR but this year is the first year of making reading plans. I dubbed the year as ‘The Year of Reading Series-ously’ and whilst I will concentrate on making my way through series, I won’t be sticking just to series. I started reading The Throne of Glass (Assassin’s Blade first) for the first time, The Inkheart Trilogy for the first time and rereading Odd Thomas to get to books in the series I haven’t read yet. No I won’t say all the series I plan on going through as I have over 45 series 😂
I don't do a TBR for each month but I run a book group on FB and we are reading Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson
I'm excited for Magnolia Parks, but I'll also be reading The Break Up Tour, Tom Lake, The Berry Pickers, and Viola Davis' memoir.

I haven't decided on my official TBR for February yet, but here are some of the books I'm thinking of reading! (they're mostly romances haha) Check & Mate by Ali Hazlewood, The Do-Over by Lynn Painter, Someday, Someday, Maybe (a novel by one of my favorite actresses, Lauren Graham!), and Better Than The Movies (also) by Lynn Painter! And to anyone still reading this, I'll be posting a February TBR video in a few days with the rest of the books I'm hoping to read this month if you want to check that out!

Babel was a 5star book for me last year. I did the audio book so I wasn’t really aware of how big it was. Highly recommend the audio book if you need a nudge!

I’m not sure if this will help at all, but all the light we cannot see wasn’t as heartbreaking as I expected it to be! Like definitely a lot of sad elements but I felt like the story was written with the intent of keeping your attention on the characters and how they are connected vs the sad parts. I hope you like it!
I'm not a fan of sad books either. if a random book makes me cry then so be it but I will never go out of my way to read a completely sad book lol. that's why I will never pick up a little life and why normal people was such a bore to me
