Caesar just pops up out of bed after brain surgery and hits his stride immediately. No wonder he is so self-obsessed.

Caesar mocks the NCR for repeating the same mistakes from the past, when his own Legion is a mockery of a dead empire without learning anything from it's mistakes.

The only reason he’s imitating the Roman Empire is because it’s alien to the average tribal.

@@liamcastillo2902 Nah, he just thinks he's above every ideology that exists in the current wasteland. He's so entitled he sees everything and everyone not part of the legion as inferior and not even worth mentioning, only destroying.

@@DarkOmegaMK2 he literally wants the NCR and the Legion to become the same entity. He doesn't seek to destroy the jusg the NCR he seeks to destroy the NCR AND the Legion. The NCR is just a retread of the world we live in today, with bureaucrats and an intense gap between the rich and the poor. The Legion is a brutal war party that is not meant to govern people. The Legion was created to tame the wastes and the NCR will be integrated to become a true single nation with a flatter social structure. That is the thesis of Caesars plan. If you ask me New Vegas was missing a tribal ending. Something like the Great Khans becoming reformed and storming the strip and using House's securitrons to win the Battle of Hoover Dam. New Vegas' storyline criticizes both the NCR and Legion so I wish you could've chosen neither and let the people that live in harmony with the Mojave rule it. The independent ending is too ambiguous for my tastes

I think it’s kinda poetic how the Impetus for Salo’s transformation into Caesar was his reading of the History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
For those who aren’t well versed in historiography; Edward Gibbons work casts a massive shadow over Roman historical study, as not only is it beautifully written, but it’s also one of the most complete and comprehensive histories written about Roman civilization.
However, it’s not a work without flaws. For one thing, Gibbon is overtly hyperbolic in his appraisal of the Pax Romana; framing it as a peak period of human flourishing while outright ignoring the fact that Rome was an immensely unequal and militant slave society, one of the few true slave societies in history according to Moses Finley. Furthermore, Gibbon blames the fall of the empire on Christianity rather than the more likely top-down systems collapse that accompanied the rise of the Theodosian dynasty. Gibbon is also the bane of Eastern Roman studies, or Byzantine. As his work frames the eastern Roman Empire as inherently effeminate and autocratic, keeping in line with his suspicions towards Christianity and common prejudices towards the east held by Europeans at the time.
I don’t know if it was intentional. But I find it kind of poetic that Salos knowledge of this ancient civilization is a parody of an already flawed work; that for all of his talk of reviving a civilization for the wasteland, he’s created a flawed perception of the past to suit his needs based off a work which ITSELF anachronistically examined the past for the intellectual needs of Gibbon.
Caesar failed because not only is he literally stuck in the past, but he’s learning the wrong lessons from the past and repeating its faults.

An alliance with the Brotherhood seemed like a missed opportunity. Caesar could’ve used them like space marines.
