あばばばい！佐賀県鹿島市 琴路神社の獅子舞 鳥居前

2024年11月3日、佐賀県唐津市の唐津くんち、嬉野市塩田町宮ノ元地区 丹生神社の塩田獅子舞、鹿島市琴路神社の獅子舞を訪問した。
鹿島市琴路神社の獅子舞について振り返る。門付けをするにあたり、あばばばいと声を上げながら、獅子舞が敷地に侵入して、赤と緑（青）の雌雄一対の獅子舞の体が交差するところから始まる。その後、獅子舞が玄関の中に入ったり人にちょっかいを出しているうちに、赤と青（緑）の剣突が今度は剣を交差させる。
子どもたちが獅子舞をひたすら追いかけていく。最後の舞い場である琴路神社に近づくにつれて、子どもの数はどんどん増えていく。子どもたちは必ずと言っていいほど、赤と青（緑）の獅子舞に襲われる。男の子は好奇心で襲われにいったり、逃げ回ったりしていて、女の子は何人か固まって肩を寄せ合いながら悲鳴を上げている。「あばばばばばばい」。その恐ろしい、獅子舞の急襲は子どもに大人気であり、同時に非常に恐れられていた。その姿を眺めていて僕が思ったのは、この獅子舞は南の鹿児島県悪石島のボゼ、あるいは沖縄県宮古島のパーントゥなどで見られる来訪神にも近いように思われた。脅かす、いたずらをする神々が地域をくまなく回っていくという姿はどこか、近いものがあるように思う。
あと獅子舞が舞っている横で、のんびりと馬を連れたおじさんが歩いてきたのには驚いた。馬はペットなのか？と思ったが、これはのちに、今回の祭りで後ほど神社にて走り回る馬の一頭のようである。馬は人間の背丈に比べるととても小さかった、仔馬である。暴れる獅子舞にやられた子どもが、持っていた自転車を放り出し馬に飛び乗り、ゆっくりと乗馬を始めた姿にも驚いた。この光景はカオスすぎる...。
獅子舞の担い手の一人が、「馬に獅子舞を飛び乗らせたら面白いんじゃないか？」と突拍子もない話を始めた。しかし、獅子舞を見たら馬が興奮が興奮してしまったようなので、獅子舞よりも先に馬を歩かせて鉢合わせないようにしようということで決着がついた。「馬に乗馬する獅子舞が実現したら面白かったのに」と内心思った。馬はなぜか、道中に糞をまきちらしていた。しかし、そんなことはどうでも良いという風に、地域の見物人や獅子舞の担い手はその横を通り過ぎていく。ここは日本ではなく、東南アジアの田舎の村なのではないか？と思うほどに田園地帯の素朴な日常が広がっていることにほっこりした。
On November 3, 2024, we visited Karatsu-kunchi in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, the Shioda Lion Dance at Niu Shrine in the Miyanomoto district of Shioda-cho, Ureshino City, and the Lion Dance at Kotoro Shrine in Kashima City.
The following is a review of the lion dance at Kotoro Shrine in Kashima City. The lion dance begins with a pair of red and green (blue) male and female lion dancers' bodies crossing each other as they invade the grounds, shouting “Ababa-baba” as they make their way to the gate. Then, as the lion dance enters the front door and messes with people, the red and blue (green) kenbutsu (sword-crossing) now cross swords.
The children chase after the lion dance. As they approach Kotoro Shrine, the final dance site, the number of children increases rapidly. The children are invariably attacked by the red and blue (green) lion dancers. The boys are curious and run away to be attacked, while some of the girls are clumped together, huddled shoulder to shoulder, screaming. 'Abba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.' That terrifying, lion dance swoop was very popular with the children and at the same time very feared. As I watched the lion dance, I thought that it was similar to the visiting gods of Boze on Kagoshima Prefecture's Boze Island or Pantu on Okinawa Prefecture's Miyako Island. The image of threatening and mischievous deities making their way throughout the region seems somewhat similar.
I was also surprised to see a man with a horse walking leisurely beside the lion dance. I wondered if the horse was a pet. I wondered if the horse was a pet, but it turned out to be one of the horses that would run around the shrine later in the festival. The horse was very small compared to the height of a human, a colt. I was also surprised to see a child, struck by the lion dance, throw down his bicycle, jump on the horse, and slowly begin to ride it. This scene was too chaotic.
One of the lion dance performers said, “Wouldn't it be fun if we let the horse jump on the lion dance?” he began to ramble on. However, the horses seemed to get excited when they saw the lion dance, so they decided to let the horses walk ahead of the lion dance so that they would not run into each other. I thought to myself, “It would have been fun to have a lion dance with the horses on horseback.” For some reason, the horses were spreading feces all along the way. But the local onlookers and lion-dance performers walked past them as if they did not care about such things. It was as if we were in a rural Southeast Asian village, not in Japan. I was so relieved to see the simple everyday life of the countryside spreading out before my eyes, that I wondered if this was not Japan but a rural village in Southeast Asia.
