also you should tell your welder friend that towing dollies are completely illegal in the uk, if the police had seen that they'd of ceased the car as any vehicle been transported with wheels on the road needs to be road legal they come off dollies really easily and cause so much damage as you've already found out
I have a 1998 E36 328i Sport which has rust in all the usual places on the underside (although not as advanced as your E39) and I've really been struggling to find anybody I can really trust to do the work properly on it. Maybe I should give your guy a shout!

They are not illegal so long as the car is taxed. It is treated like a trailer so appropriate lighting etc.
@@BaldTyres no it isn't, they are only legal if its for recovery which is why the AA or RAC are allowed to use them
