@@JonGadget I don't think it's much of a fair comparison then, they are not even in the same weight and size class imo. I'm hoping you can show how different they are in the way they carry (ergo differences, lack of a handle pinch, etc).

I have spent maybe 20 hours this past week trying to decide on what to buy as my first multitool. It came down to the Curl and the Rebar because I wanted something thin, light for EDC and with an awl because its such a multifaceted implement. It boggles my mind that the rebar doesnt have the capability to use a pocket clip, if it did i probably would have gotten it even though the the outside accessible knife on the curl makes for such a good EDC feature. Perfect combination of tools for me. Just a little expensive. Before this I would have had to buy a sidekick or wingman and heavily mod it. So I’ll probably give this one a try.
I just purchased one, I've been debating for two months. I love my second generation Wave, its awesome among other Leatherman models! I don't use the serrated blade regularly, I'm not a fan of them. I use the wood saw in a pinch, in the warmer months and I live in a wooded area. If I'm not using it regularly, its not vital. I do like the fact, of having a micro driver but its a minimal loss. I love the newer Bond, the slip joints are the best, I've seen on a multitool and the pocket clip is compatible! For me, its a win, win situation. Perfect for regular EDC carry. I love the Super Tool 300 for outdoor chores and activities.
To be frank, what I really like about it is not having additional space taken up by 3 varieties of rectangular slabs called screwdrivers. Having the pry is essential, then the bit holder to customize for your needs. I’m also more in the file camp than wood saw… I often use my SAK file for finishing work, like squaring up a hole or removing a burr. But I don’t know If this Leatherman file has any fine serrations along the edge like a SAK file.
Unfortunately it's either saw or file. The wave scissors are best used for cutting flesh (used many times) or cutting fabric or other fibrous material. These are the things a normal blade struggles with.
I’d take anything in place of those scissors. Not a Leatherman scissor fan. The scissors on the Surge work pretty well, but the rest are only good for cutting clothing tags. I usually have a 91mm Victorinox with me anyway and those scissors are great for anything
I fricken love it! Probaly change the awl out for micro driver and ditch the bit driver and bottle oppener and put 3D Phillips and rebar flat driver.. so awesome
I never heard of this tool until today. But just bought it. I love the fact that this is lighter and shorter and has pretty much all the things in the Wave. And while for others, the removal of the saw is a negative, it's awesome for me! Because I don't use a saw!! :D So I'll take the lighter weight.
I think the price might be a bit steep, but hopefully it reflects good quality, which I am prepared to pay for. Regardless, I like it because I like the Wave features and in particular its blade operation - easy one handed open and close, but I have always found it too heavy for pocket clipping so it often goes unused. I simply don't carry it, where this should be light enough to carry. That and it is easy to customize, so it will probably get a saw sooner rather than later.
I just wished this came in like $5-$10 below the original wave. Because its nearly the same tool set minus the saw and the serated blade. I dont think the pocket clip is the same price as the serated blade and the saw.
It's 1.6 Oz lighter and significantly thinner. So not all that comparable. It's likely to fall to $69 which I think is a solid price. Someone carrying a wave every day has different requirements
I’ve been a die hard Rebar boy since it came out, hate the wave for discomfort reasons, bought a P2 which was also a huge disappointment…. The Bond and Curl are both making me feel new hope for the future of Leatherman. I’ll probably stick to my Rebars, but it feels great to have some solid gift giving options on the board again!
Have you put an adhesive pocket clip or suspension pocket clip kn your rebars? The lack of one hurts me because it is so desperately asking to be pocketed.
Quick question for you I know you said only the blade and the file we're locking and all the other tools were not but I've got to ask the bit exchanger that is also non-locking
I think this tool set & size is exactly what I’ve been waiting for from leatherman. The wave is just a bit to big for a pocket clip for me and the skeletool is perfect size but lacks the tool set I want. I think the curl should be closer to $60 to be fair it is a scaled down wave that isn’t much more $, and the side kick/wingman should be $30. Love the videos, keep rockin it! 🇺🇸
That might have been true in the past, but the age of cheep tools is over I'm guessing..if you want Leatherman to stay in business it may be time to accept that the costs have gone up dramatically. The question isn't cost...the questions are: what tools are comparable, and how does it stack up against them. For me..this is quite literally better than the Wingman on every level. I hope to prove this point in an upcoming video.

I'm the only one that didn't like it, i think it looks like they have many pieces of the wave and the bond and say: hey let's gather what we have left over. And i think it too expensive, 80$? If you put 20$ more you have a wave, and with 50$ you have de bond, I don't understad this tool. But, hey nice video, thanks for watching us this tool.
It's a transition of the wingman out of the linup im guessing, it's a solid tool. Keep in mind also that the wave + has been around for almost a decade, so it's had time to drop in price. At $69 and even occasionally $59 this tool will fill a great niche.
Why in hell did they no make it was like a Wave with the saw and serrated edge? People for years wanted a Wave with an awl. Why only two tools on the outside. Could have added the saw and serrated edge and made bits with mini philips and flat heads that would fit in the standard bit driver and you would have had THE perfect multiple. Stupid, just stupid
It's nothing like the wave platform.. yes they could update the wave as you stated...but this is not meant to be a tool for holster carry or heavy use. It's for those ppl who like the weight and size of the Wingman. Which is obviously nothing like the wave

Good review - however, I still think that for a little more, I would purchase a Wave+ and carry a Tinker or an Explorer if I need an awl...I think the Bond & the Curl will eventually replace the Wingman & the Sidekick...I think these 4 are too expensive when the the price of a Wave+ is $99.95 at the moment...If as you say the prices will skyrocket, then Leatherman's offerings will be purchased by less people as many will not be willing or able to pay a higher price point...and with it's QC being inconsistent...One last thought - I have a number of LMN multitools including a Rev, which many people do not like but I do as it has a pocket clip and is great if I want a light carry...I wish a Rev II would come out with scissors...I'd purchase it if the price point was right...
I really don't think comparing it to a wave is appropriate IMO. Its in a different weight and size class entirely. As far as price...I don't think its very far off for where the market is going. By end of 2023 your going to be shocked just how high most goods are going to be.
@@maxlvledc I see your point, but it comes down to personal preference on the part of the customer...I personally can't justify paying more for less...What do you see happening by 2023 that costs will be so high? If things will be that bad, then Leatherman's prices, products and QC will be the least of our problems...
@@edgaraquino2324 I 100% agree about customer preferences...but you need to explain the less part...are you referring to a wave? I wouldn't compare them personally. But to a wingman...what implements would you say are better than the curl?
@@maxlvledc I would say that I prefer the Wave over the Curl because it has the "full Monte" in terms of the tools I need as opposed to the Curl for a little more money...I can carry it with a clip also...I think that there will be customers that will find the Curl and Bond just right for their needs, especially if they are new to the brand, or if not, they like a lighter version with a clip, it's a matter of personal choice, need and preference...The Bond and Curl should be the entry level tools of the brand to replace the Wingman and the Sidekick...I think all 4 are over-priced compared to the Wave at the present price point...I don't care for the Wingman and the Sidekick because they have assisted pliers and the Sidekick has no package opener or scissors...I think that the Rev is considered to be the "runt" of the litter but I think it has a better plier head and cutters than the other 2...it also has a package opener and a better fit and finish than the other 2. I wish the Rev had scissors...but that is me...there are folks that swear by the very tools and their characteristics which I disagree with - that's why it is good that we have the marketplace where people have a range of choices and businesses thrive and die based on those choices...
great video but still prefer the wave
Me too, but you're comparing an F-100 to a Humvee...
@@edwardfletcher7790 yep, better to compare to wingman/sidekick
Son of a bear. No seerated blade and no saw. If it had those two and the awl I’d have been on it like ugly on an ape. I might still get one just to post on the channel and then give it away
Jeezuz H…it’s a pocket clip. It’s not the game changer you think it is. It is a pocket clip.
When the clip is $14 extra...it matters
@@maxlvledc So you got something for $14 free on a $90 item. Seriously "major" surprise?
@@Rotwang72 is was $80 at the time which made the base tool $66 essentially
@@maxlvledc You're still not convincing me this is a major development. It's $14.
@@Rotwang72 for you and me it may not matter, but there are many out there where $14 makes a difference
Una Wave recortada
Why in hell did they no make it was like a Wave with the saw and serrated edge? People for years wanted a Wave with an awl. Why only two tools on the outside. Could have added the saw and serrated edge and made bits with mini philips and flat heads that would fit in the standard bit driver and you would have had THE perfect multiple. Stupid, just stupid
It's nothing like the wave platform.. yes they could update the wave as you stated...but this is not meant to be a tool for holster carry or heavy use. It's for those ppl who like the weight and size of the Wingman. Which is obviously nothing like the wave
@@maxlvledc It sure as heck looks like a wave on one side. Add the saw and serrated edge, switch out the awl for the mini bit driver, make all the took locking and you've got a Wave.
@@warblerab2955 yep, while also adding 1.6 oz and a significant increase in thickness. If the weight and dimensions don't matter to you, then the curl is definitely not for you.
@@maxlvledc fair enough. I just see it as a missed opportunity. So many people wish they could have a Wave with an awl on it.
@@warblerab2955 your 100% right! I do wonder how they would do it though...you either have to shorten the large flat...or redesign the plier stop.. the other option...is remove the serrated for an outside accessible scissor.
Hey you lucked out getting one of these so early !
I love that it's got a reamer and pocket clip. But the useless damn file instead of a saw ? No !
For Bushcraft you need a reamer and a saw ! Why add one without the other ?
Very very very debatable..I go back and forth myself. Both was not an option here. I think they will also sell a saw version, while discontinuing the Wingman/sidekick
I thought this one was going to be with non locking mechanisms for Europe🤔 like the Leatherman bond 🤔 i might as well keep my Leatherman wave plus thanks for sharing with us 👍
looks more like a 50$ to me. I'll pass if it's 80
With the cost of both shipping (freight) and raw materials...this might be the last year where you will see tools at their current costs...just a thought.
@@maxlvledc I don't doubt the price of material and freight is going up. It just doesn't look like it's worth 80 bucks. It porbbaly cost them 7 bucks to stamp out all the parts. Maybe less. It's not like they put s30v for all thier blades yet
@@1stfloorguy59 7$??? wow... I think you may be underestimating by quite a bit. actually the cost difference between s30v in the blade and 420HC is less than you think. the tooling, maintanance, Shipping, marketing, prototyping, and all other parts that go into it factor far more.
@@maxlvledc I might be underestimating but it can't be by much. I'm not saying there is not any other costs involved. Of course there is overhead to bring up the price of the tool, wages, electricity, natural gas, marketing. Look at your cellphone provider in america do you think other country's get any less then we do even though our bills are 4x higher then some other first world nations. The only reason cellphone providers want to upgrade speed is becouse it gets cheaper to send information. But they say it's faster and there for worth more. I'm not saying Leathermans like Comcast I'm just saying there definitely some inflation in their price points. My TTI is a beautiful tool but I don't think it took 170 bucks of workmanship and material to produce
Who cares a pocket clip from Leatherman on eBay is $6.00. Rather wave anyday
It's a very different tool, and sadly the prices on the free clip are ridiculous by comparison
@@maxlvledc I still don’t get why someone would chose this lol
They should literally add a pocket clip to every tool.
100000% agree
Always a personal thing.... I hate having things in my pockets, and always use a sheath on my belt. But I get why some prefer a pocket clip.
@@gregtomamichel973 I mostly don't wear a belt. I'm fat and prefer basketball shorts or elastic band pants. If there's no clip on a tool it just sits in a drawer in the house or in the car door.
@@gregtomamichel973 this would not be a good choice for sheath carry imo
