Really glad I brought my new 6.1 last year this model is terrible having spent several week in my van this year on and off grid I can’t see why it needs two sliding door what a waste hate the single burner silly little table no use at all and no decent storage under the rear seats
The concept version was wonderful inside. Then they have gone as cheap as possible on production version. It’s so bland. Nice explanation Chris. Making best of bad situation. 6.1 is a keeper.
I have to admit, the concept was exceptional. I saw it in person and it's a shame seeing some things missed in the production version. That said, I still this will be a great camper for some people.
It looks as though storage is severely lacking compared to the previous model despite it being a longer vehicle. I want to be able to reach a hanging wardrobe from inside with the seats upright. The rear bench seat of the T5/6 is nice to lounge on and has a really useful full width drawer underneath. I'm sorry but I am not impressed.
Chris , there is no point buttering it up , you know & I know it’s not as good as the T6.1 It’s a bad business move by vw and I can’t see them selling like the t6…
I own a T6.1 Beach. I'm in no way saying it's better than the T6.1, but I still think it's a brilliant vehicle and camper, just for a different demographic.
Just a shame VW decided to turn their backs on the loyal demographic they already had. This could have been an addition to the ‘California Universe’ but it’s no replacement for the 6.1
What I haven’t been able to figure out from any of the videos on th T7 cali is if the rearmost part of the bed still can be raised up now when the table hangs under it. This ability was something I really liked for reading in bed or watching a movie. Maybe you can give me an answer Chris!?
There doesn't seem to be much head height when sat on the bed. I know Chris is tall, but i think his head will hit the roof when the bed is down and sitting on the matress.
I won’t be changing my T6.1 ocean for one of them. Lack of storage under the sink, no wardrobe, pointless 2x sliding doors. Do like the swivelling captain seats and no handbrake tho
It's definitely got compromises, especially when comparing to a T6.1, but I think this would be a perfect little Weekender camper (and a brilliant daily driver vehicle too).
Not impressed, lack of storage, no large table to eat as a family when inside, need two burners how would you cook a curry and rice as an example? So glad we bought out T6.1 Ocean 2 years ago and decided not to wait.
Hi Chris just wondering will a porta pottie still fit when the bed is down ? , looking a the video , it looks like it might still fit maybe beside the fridge , Thanks again for another great video, , the more i see the van the more i like it 👌
Take out the seat next to the kitchen side and the bed may still work. The space under might take a porta potti? But I would want a full width seat with storage drawer like the T6.1.
OMG what a monumental letdown. Compared to the T6.1 - Less than half the storage, half the burners, only a third of the food prep area, bench seat was nice to cuddle up, that’s gone. This will suit those of superficial nature who want something that just looks the part but not so good for true campers. Chris it may attract those who just want a day van but it’s going to be a tough sell to anyone who already has a T6/T6.1. Best of luck.
What a terrible video - be honest its a massive downgrade - I use 2 burners all the time and that fridge will let all the cold out every time you use it - what a shame T6.1 for me - the storage is poor and the beds too narrow - NOT the same size. Disappointing sales speak “thats in there as well” 😢
I was excited to see this model for the first time (and had to talk about it on short notice with no script), but I appreciate you were after more which you might see in future videos where I'm more prepared and experienced with the vehicle. That said, I know that the T7 models won't be for everybody.
@@CaliforniaChris I appreciate all the great How To Videos you have done. I feel criticising this video is rather harsh! Keep up the informative work. Super happy now, that we traded in our 18 month 6.1 Ocean for one of the last new ones. This is not going to work as a camper to spend a couple of weeks in touring France and Spain. As you say though, it will appeal to very occasional campers who want a better MPV and daily drive. My guess is the T6.1 is going to be a good 2nd option or the new Ford Nuggets.
I always do that when I'm excited as well, sorry! This was the first time I've seen the T7 California in person as well, so I was doing all of this off-script and just reacting to it as well. I've done it in previous videos as well. 😅
Thanks for the video Chris. The lack of storage and the single gas burner are the killers for me.

Thanks Chris , looks good!
It is growing on me, although I am not sure I would swap for my Cali 6.1 Ocean
Gladly registered my interest with VW as I am very keen on the Ocean model
Ocean video coming soon on the channel :).

It's a smaller vehicle, for sure, so there were always going to be some compromises.

I don't get it! It's got less of everything that matters to campers
Awesome thank you

I'll answer this for you soon 👍
Is this available in US?
They have ruined the California 😢😢😢😢😢, What were they thinking 🤔
It reminds me of my VW westfalia kepler six, with the bed and seats.
Sorry but only one burner is a big no no.
I'm hearing that's the biggest thing people aren't happy with, which is a shame.
There doesn't seem to be much head height when sat on the bed. I know Chris is tall, but i think his head will hit the roof when the bed is down and sitting on the matress.
A Diesel 4motion then I would buy one.
Like it …..
I wish I have one

Good try Chris but your struggling with little storage one burner smaller bed etc etc

I'm sure it would fit. Whether it would be practical to use, I'm not sure.

I don't think they're trying to sell this to people who have / wanted a T6 or T6.1 - this is definitely for a different demographic, I feel.
Not impressed. Everything is "big."
I hear you. It's a smaller vehicle, too, which doesn't help with that either. I think it's worth seeing in person, though.
Shame the T7 is the end of the real VW Transporter, as we know it 😢

useable sink ? 😂
Tap, check. Water, check. Sink, check. Usable 😅
@ in a dolls house maybe 😜
Hahaha.
Count the times he says "aswell". I got 57

Why do English people say "I'm sat here.."??? when proper English is "I am sitting here.."!
Funny how they can't speak their own language 😅
Colloquialisms.
It’s growing in me….
Honestly, I think it's worth seeing in person. Feels way more premium.
This is not the vehicle people where waiting for, good looks, good driving, poor camping 🥲
It's not the vehicle T6.1 lovers were looking for* 😅
