But the ship had a more sinister purpose. Unbeknownst to onlookers, over 200 marines were hidden below deck, preparing for a deliberate and unprovoked attack against Poland. In the gray morning light of September 1, 1939, the ship quietly moved the short distance from Danzig harbor to the Bend of Five Whistles, across from the small Polish military transit depot at Westerplatte. You dont seem to understand the difference between words and actions. You focus on the rhetoric and run around like chickens with their heads cut off reacting to it. The rhetoric is a bargaining tactic. Its the actions that matter. Until you figure that out you’ll continue to look like fools.
That may be Trump's intent, but its NOT a good bargaining tool, and seeing as how Trump's record as a "dealmaker" is pretty lacking, this type of "bargaining" will harm the US FAR more than it could ever help it. It's a completely dumb strategy, almost child like in it's thinking...simple, easy solutions for complex difficult issues and problems dont work, never have, never will. It harms the US more than anything else.
Bargaining involves two sides reaching an understanding and an agreement on a new mutually beneficial deal. It requires both sides to have incentives and interests in reaching such an arrangement. Greenland 🇬🇱 is currently under the control of Denmark 🇩🇰 as an autonomous territory (think Puerto Rico 🇵🇷), and has either sought to remain Danish or gain independence. As such there is no interest or incentive for Greenland becoming a US territory or a US state, and Trump’s rhetoric is useless and destabilizing (because it MIGHT imply his willingness to seize allied territory). Panama 🇵🇦 has had a history of the US 🇺🇸 screwing it over during its administration of the Panama Canal, and thus would require a deal similar to our deal with Cuba 🇨🇺 for Guantanamo Bay (we send them checks each year for its lease according to the 1903 treaty) in order for it to have any incentive to hand over the Canal to the US. Trump’s rhetoric is therefore counterintuitive and destabilizing (because it MIGHT imply his willingness to seize foreign territory and assets). There are similar issues with his rhetoric towards Mexico 🇲🇽 (who blame US 🇺🇸 historical interference for some of its bigger issues and would be distrustful of American military presence) and Canada 🇨🇦 (who have prior territorial disputes with the US 🇺🇸 and major issues with US-Native relations), but the point stands: with regards to the nations that Trump has said he wants to incorporate into the US territorially or send US troops to, there is either no interest in making a deal (wherein his rhetoric implies POSSIBLE willingness to use force) or his rhetoric runs counter to the possible incentives to a potential deal (wherein again his rhetoric implies POSSIBLE willingness to use force).
So your defense is that he's a clinical narcissist. His words on the world stage are unfortunately listened to, by the world. Threatening violence isn't negotiating, it's coercion.
