    Our Rating System:
We are both firm believers that it is unjust to review and rate an album after only hearing it one time therefore our method for reviews is much different than everyone else on UA-cam.
First off, not only do you get two individual opinions for each and every album but we actually take the time to listen to each album many times over the course of a week in order to gather elaborate opinions on it. We typically post our First Impressions of the album after listening to it for the very first time and then a week later we post our final review with a score.
Our scoring method is unique to this channel as well. We each rate the album out of 10 but anything above a 7/10 simply just gets our Toe Tag. In order for an album to make it onto the list above it must receive Two Toe Tags. It if only gets one or none then it does not make our coveted list.
Any album that receives Two Toe Tags is considered a top quality album of elite status and highly recommended by both of us. We hope to add an array of metal genres and sub-genres to our list so be sure to Subscribe and turn on Notifications so you will always be in the loop with all the awesome metal we review!

Yeah... the Metal family is diverse and BABYMETAL gives it more flavor. Seen BM several times over the years and they never disappoint. Man you would be absolutely surprised how heavy their sound is live. I kid you not!

  • @pajmic666
    @pajmic666 5 років тому +99

Yep. With Babymetal it is not always 100% metal, they incorporating many sounds, genres and metal sub-genres into their music, but they are still able to keep their own recognizable sound, that is what makes them unique, maybe one of a kind.
Thank you for checking them out. And if you will review Metal Galaxy (which would be a awesome) expect unexpected. More to the point check out their another singles from Metal Galaxy (Starlight - Djenty metalcore, Pa pa ya!! - Trance Nu metal with taste of exotic fruit and Distortion - Trashy trance with pop hook) to get a bigger picture :)

Good reaction - and yes this is Babymetal doing Bollywood. It is definitely one of their songs that leans more towards the pop side of what they do, but they mix all sorts up and many songs lean a lot further towards their metal side than this. That is one of the things that keeps them interesting and unique, every song is different, they don't just follow a formula and produce a whole lot of songs that sound the same.
Also make no mistake, their live shows have to be experienced in person for you to believe not only the quality of what they do, but how hard they go and how much effort and energy they put into every single song for the whole show.
They are currently touring in the US in the lead up to the release of the new album and my guess is they haven't had the time to film any proper music videos, so they've used footage from one of the live shows in Japan and put a few special effects and the studio audio over the live footage - not for the first time, they did the same as far back as the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and repeated it with 'The One' and more recently 'Pa Pa Ya' and 'Elevator Girl'.

  • @KEVINTHEWS
    @KEVINTHEWS 5 років тому +42

It's interesting how much harder they are live than in the studio. The live version of this is definitely Metal, the guitars hard as hell. Many of their songs are that way. I've never understood why...

Studio versions are japan focused while live ones are more 'western'. They actually show their half pop half metal face like this

    • @Shoe-metal
      @Shoe-metal 5 років тому +5

Yes, this song is _definitely_ heavier live, as anyone whose seen them this tour (including me) can attest. That's true for many of their songs, but this one does stand out. It's about what they emphasize for those different experiences - and their live shows are meant to amp everything up to 11.

My favourite band had been Dream Theater for a very long time. If you had told me that a „small“ band of Japanese teenagers with two albums would push them off the throne, I would have called you nuts. But they did. And I‘m happy about it, because music has never made me smile so much.
A lot of metalheads can‘t cope with smiles or choreographed dancing in their Metal. And I have to admit, I was like that back in my teen years. Everything had to have an area of death and aggression to it. Only later did I realize how lame (and to be honest, ridiculous) that was. Don‘t get me wrong, everybody should like what they like, but let others do the same. A bit of fresh wind never hurts, and BABYMETAL surely are that. I‘ll take their aura of fun and positivity over death and aggression any time.
Are they still Metal? Of course they are! I don‘t see which reasonable definition of Metal they would not fit into. Yes, the choruses are catchy and melodic, but does that prevent it from being Metal? They have duelling guitars solos, insane shredding, blazing speed, endless double bass runs... It‘s all there, maybe not all in one song and accompanied by unexpected influences from other genres, but that doesn‘t take anything away from it, it just adds.
For the upcoming album they took influences from all around the world, one of their earlier singles included a Thai rapper. Their catalogue has always been very diverse, which makes it hard to judge them by a single song. I don‘t know what else you know from them, but if you are interested in getting a better picture, please watch a live clip of another song. „Road of Resistance“ (which was written in cooperation with members of Dragonforce) would be the obvious choice for metalheads, but I‘d recommend „Megitsune“ instead, because I think it better represents their music (as far as possible): ua-cam.com/video/MEx77h5K7js/v-deo.html

I'm a hardcore metal head from back in the day, one of those old hairy gnarly dudes in the gym pumping iron and headbanging...and I fucking love Babymetal. It's not an act for them, either, at least the two main girls.. I think she's 21 now and takes metal like, ultra serious, which gets mad respect from me. Plus my kids love them, and I'm man enough to admit I like cute things. Bangra metal Babymetal right here. Love the India theme on this one, and I have my fingers crossed for a Maximum the Hormone/Babymetal crossover at some point, I think they would blend really, really well.

Great background with many of my fav bands, DarkThrone, Venom, Slayer, Motorhead, Carcass, Pantera, and so on and so on... It's great to watch a reaction to Babymetal too... I for one, love them. This is actually one of my favorites from Metal Galaxy album, but for me nothing beats the first album and the first 3/4 years of Babymetal performances. Still, the second album has two songs that I would really love to see you guys reacting to - one is one of my favorites of all, "Sis.Anger" that reminds me a bit of a mesh between Carcass and some Norwegian Black Metal band with both Moa and Yui (BlackBabymetal) singing and dancing it... the other is probably the most recommended song to any Metal fan starting on Babymetal: Road Of Resistance live in Japan... it's superb...
I hope you get to check them out in more straight forward metal songs...
Anyway, I love them... from Shanti to 4 no Uta or even Iine!, they were awesome with Yui in but they are still awesome with Su and Moa only...
    Cheers!!

Love seeing a couple of metal heads being open minded to Babymetal. I’ve been a massive metal fanatic most of my life and listen to every sub genre of metal. Babymetal has recently become a band I can’t get enough of. I never like to try and push “metal” into a box, there is so much more to music then that. That’s why I love what Babymetal does and how everything from their first album to this new album is so unique and always different. Would be curious to hear your review on Metal Galaxy, as the name suggests the songs have such unique sounds from all over the world and I think is a really tight album! Yes admittedly not on the heavy side really, apart from a select few, but still has metal elements throughout and really interesting to hear how they’re experimenting with their music. 🤟 thanks for the good video though, decent reaction for sure.. will probably check out more from you guys!

Babymetal is considered Kawaii metal which is metal mixed with J-pop. They have mixed so many genres in their songs, genres like metalcore, power metal, Thrash metal, speed metal, rap, edm, viking metal, and more genres that I can't think of at the moment. Babymetal are the ones how invented Kawaii metal back in 2010.

Thanks for choosing to react to BABYMETAL, they're amazing! As someone who is new to the group, I thought I'd give you and your followers a little background on them.
BABYMETAL is a Japanese Kawaii Metal group consisting of (for the most part) SU-METAL on lead vocals, YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL on backing vocals/dancing, or "SCREAM AND DANCE" as they like to call it. I say 'for the most part' as Yui & Moa have a few songs that they do as duets without Su and Su has a few songs she does as solos whilst Yui & Moa take a well deserved break.
They were formed in 2010 as part of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, before touring on their own in 2011 and have gone from strength to strength.
They started singing to backing tracks with actors in skeleton suits pretending to play instruments (known as BABYBONES) but soon incorporated the Kami Band into their concerts, bringing them in full time at the end of 2013. The Kami Band consists of some of Japan's premier musicians on rotation based on availability. The most popular configuration consisting of Takayoshi Ohmura and Mikio Fujioka on guitar with Leda Cygnus as stand-in, BOH on bass and Aoyama Hideki on drums. These are the people you will see most often in videos. Since the untimely passing of Mikio at the end of 2017 they have enlisted the talents of Isao Fujita on guitar. At the end of 2018 YUIMETAL left the band because of health problems and in 2019 there are 3 girls named AVENGERS that will take her place in a rotating manner.
Below is a list of some of their best performances that I hope you will consider for future reactions. Should you decide to do more BABYMETAL reactions in the future, you should be aware that UA-cam will block almost all videos that incorporate audio. The best way round this is to mute the video and provide a link that we can open in a new window and sync with yours. Just give us a countdown before you start playing it. The BABYMETAL fandom is very used to this way of doing things.

So this video is from one of their concerts a few months ago when they released Pa Pa Ya. The reason it's not an actual video and is just a manipulated live version like the videos for Pa Pa Ya and Elevator Girl is because they've been on tour the past three months or so and haven't been home or had down time to film trap music videos.

    __________________________________________
Note: If you want a heavier song then may I suggest "Karate." Fusion core I like to call this and it's really pretty amazing.
"Road To Resistance" is their power Ballard and is really amazing live. "Akumu No Rindo" I'd say is probably their most metal song, my opinion.
It really hits hard and is kind of haunting. "Akatsuki" is probably the heaviest for me on my heart. Not necessarily on my gut.
    ________________________________________
Meto Taro also has heavy elements of Irish folk music which doesn't have me complaining in the least.
"The One" is probably my favorite power ballads. Their performance at the Tokyo Dome. Was one of their best live performances yet.

Please React to LOVEBITES - Shadowmaker or The Crusade. They more to the 80s thrash metal and power metal genre. Also all songs in english, they sound like the female version of Iron Maiden & Helloween. They began to be recognize in Europe since winning the Golden Gods' "Best New Band" In Metal Hammer, performing in BloodStock, Wacken Open Air, Graspop and Download Festival..

Honestly, I've been in the mood for Malayalam/Hindi rock with folk elements, and this song (which is basically about the cycle of life and death in Hinduism) is probably the closest thing I've found to what I'm looking for (more metal than Aviol, less metal than The Down Troddence) thus far, oddly enough.
That said, I would still love to see a more Symphonic Rock song in this style, like an Indian equivalent to something by Nightwish or Wagakki Band, or maybe even Babymetal's own Megitsune. I'm open to any suggestions.

Yeah, the studio version goes pretty light on the heavy (so to speak), but I think the live version makes it heavier to the right amount (while still keeping the vibe). It has ended up being the _Metal Galaxy_ track I like most (we'll see how that goes after hearing the parts of the album not yet released), and while I like the studio version, it's more because of the live versions. Of course, the over all exoticness of it with that certain mixture might be what's pushing the right mental buttons for me.
When it comes to BabyMetal, it's always important to keep in mind that they're not intended to be 100% metal. Kawaii metal is meant to be a fusion genre of varying ratios. Even from previous stuff, I love _Awadama Fever,_ and _Syncopation,_ and _YAVA!,_ which have a hefty pop side to them. :)

Their songs from the Metal Resistance album are the most metal ones.
If you'd like some more Babymetal song recommendations that leans more to metal, here's some :
    Sis Anger - Death Metal
Tales of the Destinies - Prog Metal (Very Dream Theater)
Meta Taro - Viking Metal (BEWARE - the vocal melody comes from a nursery rhyme. Not my favourite for that reason)
KARATE - Djent/Prog Metal (Leaning more towards the Djent side of prog rather than Dream Theater)
No Rain, No Rainbow - Metal Ballad/Rock Ballad
    YAVA! - Ska Metal
    Syncopation - Japanese Metal

Keep in mind guys: this was a radical departure from their usual style. This song was specifically stylized to the background of the song's theme topic/subject. A song from this group which is much more emblematic of them would be *"gimme chocolate",* that would be a quintessential babymetal example. From there they drift more towards metal in "Starlight" or more towards j-pop in "Megistune". The band itself runs the gamut between j-pop and metal, that's why I recommend seeing the live "gimme chocolate" because that's the sweet spot between the two seeming contradictions.

It's funny that you'd start your BABYMETAL journey with the poppiest track they've ever made. Even counting No Rain No Rainbow, which is a power ballad (and arguably power ballads like NRNR are a staple of metal albums for a long time), Shanti is the furthest away BM has ever done in terms of metal. For some reason, most fans seem to dig it a lot - which is fine. I don't like it as much myself. There's not a single metal mix in there, not the slightest hint at metal in Shanti, which I think is disappointing. I would expect a song like Shanti to have emerged from a group called BABYROCK. I personally believe this song would've been much much much better with a slight touch of metal in it - ain't that the whole point of the band in the first place ? The studio version has a timid pop-rock vibe to it and the drums mix sound like they've been digitally made. Thankfuly, live versions (obviously) sound better. We get real drums and heavier riffs, but the damage on the studio version has been made nevertheless.
For metalheads I'd recommend these songs :
BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance live official
BABYMETAL - Rondo of Nightmare with mischiefs of god intro
    BABYMETAL - Akatsuki live
    BABYMETAL - Megitsune
BABYMETAL - Headbanger live Makuhari Messe
BABYMETAL - DEATH live at Legend 1997
BABYMETAL - ijime, Dame, Zettai live sonisphere 2014
