@@TimHikes I think as things get lighter the durability is reduced. I have a few packs and my heavier Osprey is more durable than my Granite Gear and certainly more than my Zpacks, but it’s also much heavier. I think my Granite Gear pack is right in the middle and it also carries weight well. It was also the least expensive. Take care
@@TimHikes going NOBO. Trail is so fun but a bit colder than we anticipated. Also the shelters are more helpful than we though they would be for ducking out of storms.
Oh the old MSR liquid fuel stove. I lugged one of those around for decades. Now I am sold on BRS under and oz. super cheap stove. Your knees when you are old like me will thank you. I start my LT hike in about a week. I have been watching your LT hiking trip and have enjoyed them. I hope your brothers knee is feeling better. Take care
@@TimHikes It’s crazy how light the gear has gotten. I am in my early 60s and back in the day 40 plus lbs backs were common. My old backpack empty weighed over eight pounds, crazy yeah. My Zpack tent and pack weigh about 22 oz. each. I am happy for the light gear as I honestly could not carry the old gear any longer. Enjoy the adventure, take care
@@TimHikes So after my first 100 or so on the LT I reduced my weight quit a bit. Traded my Ankor 20 for a Nitecore 10 which saved almost 7 oz. changed my pot to a smaller one saving 2.5 oz, went with a shorter pad saving 4 oz. changed my light saving another oz. Changed from my Western Mountaineering 20 UL to a Zacks quilt saving almost a pound. I return to finish the LT in September. I also changed my dogs sleep system saving about six oz and got her a pack. She will carry two days a food and I will carry the rest. On the first part I carried all her food and her overweight sleep system. I can’t wait to get back out there. I hope all is well. Take care
Cool!
How did that new pack work out. I always hear good things about that pack and people love them.
Yes! It worked very well! It was a 270 mile trip, im still not convinced if it would hold up on a full through hike!

Love hearing that another brother duo will be on the LT! My little brother and I are out here now, zeroing in Manchester Center. Happy hiking!
Thanks!!! Are you heading NOBO or SOBO? Any notes on the trail thus far?

They are the best stoves! But yes, a bit heavy!

That's my cork ball! Hahah picked it up in Hiker Town! Wish I could join you on this adventure !
Oh, you don’t get to go - darn.
I wish you could too baby :( I am going to miss you every day!
No rain pants? Even though you know it’s going to be rainy? I think you should bring the puffy, too.
I've never used rainpants before, not even on the AT when I hiked it in 2016. We will see though, I may change my mind
I did the Long Trail and you definitely don’t need rain pants, lmao.
