What a great video. Watching these beautiful and most extraordinary performers sing and dance together brought a sense of peace to me this evening! This is "real music" ... these young performers are truly "artists" ... we Americans can learn more than just a few things from them ... that I know ... that is what I believe! Thank you for posting this video ... I can only hope that these artists come to know there are people who appreciate them as much as I do!
Unity, understanding, and respect for each other's differences is the only way Tibetans in Tibet and in exile can really outrun the force of the PRC. Bhoe Gyalo!!!
Heavenly music...i am not from east asia, but when i hear this song i don't sense much difference with chinese songs ...also tibetans have the same pride and intelligence and rich culture as chinese, i don't know why shouldn't they be together?! ...hope their problems will be over peacefully
And like all things even human...even music evolve. Maybe this type of new techno base music in the back, or the colorful clothing which could be a bit of a contribution from Modern Chinese influence...you shouldn't shun every music that comes out from Tibet. The Tibetans in Tibet probably won't think the music that we say are "pure" Tibetan isn't all that pure. They will see the influence of India, Nepal and America. What is your defense to that?
When her first album was out...we were all invited to an opening night in Kham, Tibet where they introduced her as a native of Juva. Maybe the organizers were wrong?
To counter your argument, what you're suggesting is equivalent to: Why shouldn't USA, Canada and Mexico be together? After all they all have similar sounding pop music right.
Yangchen Lhamo left Tibet in 1989 and has been living in New York City since the 1990's. This video was filmed in Australia. Currently she is forbidden from returning to Tibet by the Chinese government.
If you do not understand the dialect, ask someone who does before proclaiming idiotic comments like this in here. This just seems like you lack in real Tibetan culture in and out of Tibet. I don't blame you though, it's the effect of living in exile. We haven't been really introduced to many varieties of cultures that existed in old Tibet and still does today.
since 1959 life expectancy increased to age 60s from 40s Tibetans are exempted from the one child policy schools are built tibetans learn in tibetan and mandarin they get extra credit when they go to university billions of yuan are spent developing tibet and building infrastructure that westerners take for granted. several governemtn positions are only reserved for tibetans the population increased from one million in 1959 to over 2 million today
toctc....I can understand what you're trying to say about the strong chinese influence in music that comes from Tibet but this is an actual phayul song. It's different dialect therefore you probably do not understand. This is somewhat close to Bashe (a dance form) from Ba Kham. This girl is from a place called Juva in Kham. The birth place of Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche. They just speak different dialects, please be a lil open minded while you comment. Jeesuuu!
isn't it funny how people are whining about how the chinese oprressing the tibetans yet at the same time watching tibetans IN TIBET dancing and singing making music videos
@pwnednooblar The funny thing is that most information given to Americans about Tibet is through the filter of the mainstream media. I really felt sorry for the oppression of the Tibetans until I actually went there only to see them very wealthy. They were charging fees to enter temples and giving generous blessings for people willing to pay 1000 yuan. Did you know China pays 4 billion a year to develop Tibet? I wonder if America invests this much in their minorities?
The spoken language is distinctly *not* Chinese sounding - it's Tibetan. True though, the subtitles are in Chinese, which is probably now the primary language in Tibet since communist China took over and controls everything including education and media.
read the book CIA in Tibet. the Dalai Lama and his people were helped by the CIA when they started the uprising. he and his group are funded by the CIA and since the 1980s are still funded through the CIA front group the national endowment for democracy. The Dalai Lama had a seat in the NPC and was elected/chosen as vice chairman of the standing Committee before he fled to India he wrote poems praising Mao Zedong and his government
pwnednoobar the only people that are whining about tibetans being miserable are exiles themselves who never visited tibet since 1959 tibet's population rose from 1 million to nearly 3 million since 1959, they are exempt from the one child policy, they are educated both in tibetan and chinese. they get extra credits when they graduated from school and going to university, and some govt positions re reserved only for tibetans
china's population increased from 400 million to over 1 billion in the last 50 years tibet's population also increased from 1 million to nearly 3 million in the last 50 years. where is is the evidence of mass sterilizations?
also...if it were in chinese, its because of the chinese govt...not them...but its tibetan, because i cant understand it. tibetans are very opressed by the chinese govt.
It's not funny, it makes perfect sense.. You are NOT going to see any music videos of miserable Tibetans coming from within Tibet.. The Communist Chinese government would not allow anything that's harmful to it's cause to be released. They will however fully support videos of happy dancing Tibetans. Control the money, control the media, control the education - effectively control the people. Control the media that is released to the world and control the world's opinion of the situation.
it isn't funny ? why they singing tibetan song and writing chinese language. hope tibetan other singers don't be like her , other wise how can we keep our language , to show respect to his holiness the dalai lama .

great song...FREE TIBET, FREE TIBET, FREE TIBET
The singer is Yangchen Lhamo. If I'm not mistaken, this is from 2 or 3 years ago.
When her first album was out...we were all invited to an opening night in Kham, Tibet where they introduced her as a native of Juva. Maybe the organizers were wrong?
Who is the artist of this song?
What's it called?
she is singing in a different tibetan dialect. the chinese subtitle below is just similar sounding..
To counter your argument, what you're suggesting is equivalent to: Why shouldn't USA, Canada and Mexico be together? After all they all have similar sounding pop music right.
