- Watch selections from silent films created by Reverend S. S. Jones, who came to Oklahoma Territory in 1889. Scenes of traditionally All-Black towns of Oklahoma include Taft, Clearview, Melvin, and Boley in the 1920s.
This film was produced by Bruce Fisher and the Oklahoma Historical Society.
This man was so proud of his community he made a documentary about them bc he knew that one day we would need this reminder. Thank you Reverend S.S. Jones!

I liked.the way they.dubbed sound.into the silent footage.
This is incredible footage!!! 💖💖💖🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
How incredibly awesome it was that this video was recorded. A good mount of footage t that. More importantly, was how these recordings survived all this time. Absolutely phenomenal scene to witness of all times, the current moments. I’m so proud to see films like this. Those football players barely had on padding. Since I’m just learning about this town, I’m searching to find out what happened to it. I’m afraid to know if white people (KKK) demolished this town as they did the other successful Black towns. Wow, just wow!
Amazing!
Wonderful. Family from Boley and Wiley here.
Back when sistahs, walk long side her man, supported him.
Boost Mobile No, black woman have always supported and build up the black man Image. The BM was the ones who left the black community after civil right movement to marry Becky.

I hate being called african American. We’re black.
We not black either respectfully, we're coppertone
We did need Caucasians for nothing!
Solutions, build cultural education group economics. Black love is respect for one another regardless.
Much better towns for blacks.
Yo! We have to think how the he'll was our ancestors slaves....? THEY WASN'T!!

But Then I'm Just An Okie Frum Muskogee .....
@@sherrycambridge1531 I don't think it has to do with where you come from whether you like this music or not. I am from Tennessee, and I LOVED this music, especially the song that was played when talking about the churches in these towns. The singing was "angelic".😁👍👌
