RIP Walter Matthau (October 1, 1920 - July 1, 2000), age 79 And RIP Jack Lemmon (February 8, 1925 - June 27, 2001), age 76 You both will be remembered as legends.
@@chrisgast They built this up on them disliking each other but they were just a pair of elderly guys. Deep down, they were always friends. For two guys who hated each other so much, they spent an awful lot of time together.
@@chrisgast At 1:18 you can see Lemmon's character spli tting a gut @ Matthau's rem- arks about him going to the 'kinky strip joints where the men take their clothes off'.
Lemmon & Matthau were best friends, even sent their boys to same boarding school. Great pairing, they were the same in real life together as onscreen. I wish I could have been more like people such as Matthau & Jack Nicholson, say whatever I liked in such an outrageous manner, great stuff, so much humour in it!

@Teresa G: Soul Sister!! ❤️ I’ve been starting to think I’m one of the few left on this planet who adores this movie. Both of them. I miss these gentlemen. You might not see my comment as you posted a good 5 years ago, but it was heartwarming to read yours. A good day to you-
Its more than the funny moments, the 2 Grumpy Old Men movies have a certain charm to them. For example I love how the scenery of the state of Minnesota is practically a co-star. In Grumpy Old Men we get to see how nice it looks with all that snow and ice. And in Grumpier Old Men we get to see what it looks like underneath all that snow and ice. Just beautiful. The small hometown feel also adds to the charm. Makes one want to move there to live & hopefully have Max, John Pop, & Ariel as neighbors
My older brothers also had this on VHS too. I was only 6 when this movie came out. At that time I wasn't into this movie, nor was I really able to understand it. Which I confessed to my older brothers about it. They told me it's pretty hard to get into as a young kid as I was at the time. Now I've watched it several times as an adult and it's funny as hell to me
Buddy buddy, the front page, the odd couple and obviously this film and it's sequel. They were a great duo and Walter Matthau was always one of the funniest actors
Man this movie was funny. My grandfather loved it. He died in 2021 at the age of 94. This is exactly how he would talk to all of his friends even my mom said during the 1970s.
I was born in 1974 & my dad was a movie freak, so I had the pleasure to know about Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau & so many other great actors, from early on. My favorite movie with Walter Matthau is "The Cactus Flower" with Goldie Hawn & Ingrid Bergman. An absolute classic!
Jack Lemon and Walter Matheau are always great working together. This is one of my favorites. I loved the original Odd Couple. The sequel to this movie and the Odd Couple were both a barrel of laughs. They are comedy legends.
RIP 2 some of the cast members who have sinced passed away. Walter Matthow deceased on 7/1/2000 age 79, Jack Lemmon deceased on 6/27/2001 age 76, Burgess Meredith deceased on 9/9/1997 age 89, and Ossie Davis deceased on 2/4/2005 age 87. Quite the careers they all had.👍👍👍👍
I grew up watching the antics of jon gustafsson snd max goldberg...they were amazing...jack lemon and Walter matthau are 2 of the greatest actors ever.. even if your 30ish like me the odd couple in 68 with those 2 is hilarious
Omg..😂. I love their movies together. Love Matthau so much. He’s a national treasure of comedy. Sounds so much like my late grand daddy. Sounds voice, same jokes and wit
I forgot just how much I love this movie. I grew up watching this as a kid in Minnesota. This was pretty accurate for the time. Now I get hit on two nostalgia fronts.
As a kid, this was the film that introduced me to Lemmon and Matthau in 93. I still remember seeing this at the theaters with my Dad and brother when I was 5 years old. I loved it, and still do. Even enjoyed the sequel. Without a doubt, they were the best comedic duo to ever grace the silver screen.
You and I are a Year apart. I wasn't into this movie when I was 6. My older brothers had this movie on VHS. It was hard for me to get into this movie at the time since I was so young. One of my older brothers told me it's hard to get into this movie if you're young, but watching it now is so funny!
Burgess reminds me of my grandfather who was always flirting with the cute waitresses at every restaurant we took him to. He was a scamp! Miss you gramps. R.I.P.
All of the movies these two starred where way underrated. I believe they are some of the funniest movies ever. My favorite is Out to Sea. Long live Grumpy old men.
Uh… no?? How were they “underrated?” If both Matthau and Lemmon were as iconic as they were, how were their movies underrated? I’m so sick of “underrated” being thrown around mindlessly on UA-cam!
Good morning dickhead....lmao. Saw this in 93 when I was 10 with my pop pop.....good times. This and the sequel are all time classics. Burgess Meredith was a legend. These two we're best friends in real life too....it really comes across on film.
Man I just saw this for the first time in like 15 years lastnight and I swear it had me laughing more than the hangover, even a few tears because it had me reminiscing of my childhood when I use to watch it
"Believe me, this man is a menace." "I can't stand that kid, he's a menace!" Walter has had to deal with two menaces in his career- John Gustafson and Dennis Mitchell!
I like to think the studio approached them like "Hey, do you wanna play a couple of grumpy old farts who insult one another constantly" and they were like "Hell, I'm already doing that I might as well get paid!" I love how Lemmon can't keep himself from smiling at Matheau's insults. What a pair.
I will never forget one night sitting at the bar in the bartender asked this guy next to us if he knows so-and-so. He looked up at the bartender and said "no, I don't know who that shi* head is..... The guy they were referring to was actually his friend sitting right next to him.
"The Green Hornet strikes again... caught my limit; I see you only snagged one there." "2... fish are on there you bonehead, and you know dam well I don't throw back what I don't eat." "Oh yeah, like that 40 lbs musky you always yack about, it's a shame nobody ever sees you with these monsters.... ah ah." "You're gonna love it Goldman... go to work baby." lol
For this movie I think it had to do with the ice fishing. Which is big there. Also very few places have true winters so even if the setting was supposed to be elsewhere it would probably be filmed in Minnesota still.
hahaha man they still make me laugh "mind your own business....how 'bout you tie your shoes before you fall on your stupid head", and then the old man has to break 'em up when they're fighting and calls them kids haha

You can tell Matthau was ad-libbing some of the dialog by the look on Lemmon's face while trying not to crack up. Brilliance.
Especially how he turns his face saying oh God lol
