- 'One Night' had been one of those songs which endured in Elvis' setlist in his live performances throughout his career. From shows in 1957, the Pearl Harbour benefit shows in 61, the sit down shows from the 68 special, the TTWII shows of August 70 to his final tour of June 77 it almost always made an appearance somewhere apart from an apparent sabbatical in 73, 74 and most of 75.
Whilst many of his 50's hits were sang as quick run throughs of inserted into fast paced medley's 'One Night' always seemed to be given the utmost respect by Elvis and as such usually received an excellent performance.
The song itself was originally recorded by Elvis on February 23, 1957 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California and became a massive hit worldwide.
This final live rendition of 'One Night' comes from what would be Elvis' third last concert appearance at the Dane County Coliseum in Madison, Wisconsin on 24 June 1977.
The video footage comes from the excellent 'Final Curtain' boxset and the audio from the import soundboard CD of the show called 'Stumpin' Madison'.
On a side note, according to local legend Elvis broke up a fight at a local gas station earlier that day!!
He was not in his best physical shape but the voice was sublime. No one else like Elvis. This man will always be the best of the best.
Boy that's tough to watch and listen to. One of my favorite Elvis tunes. He is really struggling. Sad to watch, but part of the story and the legacy. Thanks for posting Leon.
Definitely not tough to watch. I disagree. Ok he uses a slight different air. No it's not like the others. But still in high voice. But I respect your opinion.
Even though he was in bad health Elvis never lost that beautiful voice and was still able to give the audience a good performance

Some songs more than others- such as later versions of songs like like “Hurt” & “Trying to Get to You” etc. Sadly, he does not sound well here and his famous 1968 TV Special remains the go-to versions for this song.

I was at this concert and at the one 2 days later at Market Square Arena, Indianapolis Indiana. What amazing memories, I was almost 15 yrs old.
I was at this concert , plus the first one Elvis had in Madison on October 19th '76. Still have my ticket stubs and and a few souvenirs from the concert .
We are the same generation. I was 14 at this show .

La voi d elvis a toujours été sublime de années 50 60 70 et a évolué au cour de ça carrière en puissance ont ces très bien qu'une teciture de voi evolue a force de chanté et la voi d elvis atteignant des sommets vocales et ces problèmes de santé ou elvis prenait du poid ou etait le problème c etaient comme ça elvis la accepté bien sur ça a du être dure pour lui et il a du en souffrir mais ce qui compte ces nous l aimions et ont la acceptés aussi . Elvis était un monument la plus grande star planétaire il était humble et très aiment pour ces fans . Les journaleux minables ont écrits des choses degueulaces pas tous mais beaucoups et aussi les west avec leurs livres pourris la c était le comble ils l ont fait mourir avant l heure voila des types qu avaient des voitures des harley des maisons qu ils ont jamais payés . Repose en paix parole d homme elvis je parle de toi tout les jours de ma vie j ai 61 ans et je t ai vu 3 fois et j amai je ne pourrai t oublié .

Absolutely terrible. Just a shadow of what he once was a couple years earlier. He sounds completely exhausted and wiped out and looks terrible… Not hard to believe he passed away six weeks later.
