Red Velvet songs are always hard to cover coz RV songs are literally have a wide concept. I never seen a performance from a survival show that the teams executed Red Velvet's song (as a group) well. It's either they don't understand the concept of the song or messed up with the vocals. RV songs are usually more on harmonizing, backing vocals and adlibs, in here they really messed up with the vocals, some have low voice and some are too high pitch, everything is going to opposite direction when they sing together. Probably the only thing they did well is the rap part and for the concept some are doing cute concept and some are doing sexy concept when Red Flavor is more on a fresh and bright concept. Anyway Hyunhee showed her versatility that she's indeed an all rounder who can slay any concept, Yoonjung also did great coz c'mon it's reallyyyyy hard to sing Wendy's part, so i applaud for her for that. Jaehyun showed here she can show something more in the show.

I personally think the 3rd graders' voice is more pleasing. The 2nd graders are only fortunate because their voice is originally high pitched so they sang it just fine, but literally that's only about it. Yoonjung sang that high note at 2:35 without trouble but the second note (which is the same note as the first note) it got a little shaky which led to a voice crack, I think she needs to work on her stamina? The others too need to work on their stamina because we can really hear them catching their breathing. Otherwise Yoonjung's first part was great. Hyunhee and Jaehyun nailed it.

An example would be Kep1er's Chaehyun when she cracked at the Black Mamba high note (don't get me wrong, she is one of the best vocalists in GP999 but in this instance her voice crack led to her confidence deteriorating in the middle of her performance)

From start you know 2nd grade had upper hand with this song and Youngchae really did great maximize that. While for 3rd grade think Jaehyun did best, while Hyunhee and Yoonjung did trying out of their comfort zone, its like high risk high gain but sometimes it didn't pay off.
grade 3 is either fierce and sexy at some part doesn't look like refreshing at all (except to the tall girl in white), grade 2 understood the assignment and serve what is right. the way the girl in yellow from grade 2 rap in so refreshing and cute way, girly need screentime.
Red Velvet songs are a trap on these shows and the producers know it. But they also know it makes for good tv at the expense of making young girls look bad. The trainers were even egging it on by encouraging more cutesy flourishes when the whole concept of Red Flavor is wholly antithetical to this overly cute presentation. Aiki (worst offender), Ock Joohyun and even Yuri (who has no excuse being RV's direct sunbae) all were fawning over the sickening cuteness. Only Soyeon rightly pointed out that this song isn't about that and mentioned Seulgi's chic presentation to counter this weird babyfication of Red Flavor that every audition show seems determined to shove down our throats. Hyun-Hee, who should be better than this, keeps blowing odd and clumsy kisses that are completely out of place in this song. The others also have weird stilted attempts at aegyo that never works. I can forgive Yoo-Jung's voice breaking in the bridge because at least that was honest (and at the hardest part of the song originally sung by one of the best singers ever). Red Flavor is about young women dreaming and falling for summer love and encapsulating that fresh magical feeling in song. It's not about babies trying to outdo one another with cutesy wink gestures and bizarre aegyo kisses. It should be banned from audition programs.
Younchae is a vocal and visual ace. Karina and Hyunhee killed it too. Expected nothing less. Anyone gonna tell Yoonjung to stop taking those high notes though? This is her second time blowing it. Her rap was good though 😱

this song is very difficult to sing directly along with the dance, the tempo is fast and the lyrics are very tight and must follow the dance. these girls are doing really well.
