When I was a kid, it was from watching Frank Gorshin doing his impressions of, mainly, tough-guy actors, on TV, that made me want to see those old movies in the first place. I owe Mr. Gorshin a debt of gratitude for being instrumental in turning me into a classic film buff.
Love this guy. I met him on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. I got off work early. I saw him in a car beside me. I pulled up right beside him to be sure it was him. It was a rainy day. I flag him over. He was a nice enough guy to oblige my request. I was a little dirty from work. I told him I didn’t want to get his car dirty. He said “Don’t Worry About It, It’s Rented.” I got in the car and like Jimmy Cagney I said “I Didn’t Mean To Pull You Over.” He got a kick out of it. He was working The Playboy Club he told me. What a Great, Down to Earth Guy! I got his Autograph. I thanked him for it and for pulling over to talk for about 10 minutes or so. It was something I’ll never forget!!
To nearly everyone in my generation Frank Gorshin will always be, first and foremost, the Riddler. But to me he will also be George Burns. I took my mother to see him in the one man play "Say Goodnight Gracie" in the Spring of 2001, not long after my father had died. He was phenomenal as George Burns discussing his (Burns) life. Very funny and heart warming and most importantly he gave a lot of pleasure to my mother that night. Thanks for that Frank.
@MichaelKingsfordGray Bizarre. Are you sure you're in the right place? I seriously don't see anything in that particular comment that would provoke a personal attack. Perhaps other comments I've made elsewhere, but this one? It just makes you look confused....
Remember seeing Frank on The Ed Sullivan show in 1964 and he is the best impersonator I've watched. His facial expressions bring them to life. You made us laugh so many times Frank and you are remembered. 💕 RIP
David K, to most people what you commented on is probably a nothing, simply a passing thing as they might not have noticed the significant thing you were saying. But what you stated is very, truly real. And that's because the way the Country is going there is a whole lot of things that we'll never see again. Mainly, truth!!!!!
@@garychambers5850 Nice thought. GOD knows His own in every walk of life. But there are two resurrections, bro: "the first" is for those who lived to bless others. And "the second" for those who only lived to bless themselves. Hence the words of Paul: "Judge nothing before the time." Today's churches have a hard time with this as they tell the world, "My sins are acceptable. Yours are not!" Fools from the pope on down are illiterate to what sin is, and what sin does. To sum up the Bible's moral doctrine: It all comes out in the wash. Just don't be one of the stains. I pray all is well there.
@@garymcaleer6112 I liked your comment, Gary. Yes, God not only knows who belongs to Him, but sees the future and knows who will come to trust Him. Jesus talks much about not judging others. Only God knows the intentions and motives of someone's heart. Paul goes on to say that God is the one who will give rewards, and as Jesus said in Matthew 13: "Let the tares and the wheat grow together and God will separate them out at the end." God bless!
Frank Gorshin at his time (50s, 60s) was, in my opinion, the best impressionist. Recently, os Jim Carey. So, in my opinion, both are one of best ever impressionists and comedians.
I'm ashamed to say I only knew Frank as the Riddler, well that is changing very quickly, how much charisma did he have...buckets...I'll be watching lots more now that's for sure....

Burt Lancaster did not do himself as good as Frank Gorshen did The Great Burt Lancaster. And Burt Lancaster is 1 of my most favourite and Respected actors in my 60 years of age.
WOW! AMAZING. Didn't know he did this kinda thing back then. I remember him as the Riddler in the 60s Batman tv series. Had a quick part in The Green Mile too! What a talent! 🙏
He was a great impressionist and actor long before the Riddler you can see him on The Dean Martin show Ed Sullivan show as a impressionist and on Combat and Alfred Hitchcock as a actor and other shows and movies on UA-cam
Frank was brilliant. I went to a taping of a show, I think , called Variety Tonight at Global Studios around 1985. There was a snow storm, the live audience was very small, and very young. Frank was great, but nobody recognized his Burt and Kirk. Dead air. I felt pretty bad for him, but he was a professional and just ran the show the way he should.
He was great as the❔ *Riddler* ❔ on the 60's T.V. show *BATMAN* !!! 🦇 He was one of the best if not thee best impressionist of his time, probably of all time!
Not only one of the best impressionist there was or will be, he was also (and is) an underestimated actor as well. I never realized he was around that long. He was always my favorite Batman villain bar none, movies included. I'm actually a little surprised by his act, I always expected something in a more sardonic vein, I guess because of the excellent way he played the Riddler, and the way he played that alien cop in that episode of original Star Trek.

One of the best impressionists ever, and a real scream. But still the best Riddler.
Oh my, I just discovered this amazingly talented impersonator. May he R.I.P..🇨🇦
What a special entertainer Frank was. No one can match him, today. We were blessed to see him.

I was so pleased he had the success of that play late in his life. ..so funny he never did George Burns before that !
Frank was the best facial expressionist impressionist the world has ever seen. He could do the impressions with his face without ever saying a word.
But sounding like him as well. The 2nd closest I've seen is Jim Carey in his early stand-up days. His Clint Eastwood is a bladder-buster!
I think Jim Carrey was inspired by him.
Amazing talent! 🙏👌👌
Gorshin was the best. Hands down! The stars he imitated ...they themselves thought so.
Suddenly realised that the reason you never see impressionists anymore is that we don't have real "stars" anymore...
