- Is this Thornfield Hall from Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre novel? Did Charlotte get inspired by the story of the Mad Woman in the Attic? Did she see the secret staircase? Come with me as we look around this wonderful old Yorkshire house and get a glimpse of what Charlotte would have seen when she came to visit 185 years ago.

--ABOUT ME--
Hello, I'm Kate-a huge fan of the Brontë Sisters for many years. Upon relocating to Yorkshire with my husband, I found myself irresistibly drawn to the village of Haworth, home of the Brontë Sisters and my obsession grew. It was during the challenging days of the Lockdown in 2020 that I decided to channel my passion into action. Disappointed by the lack of quality Brontë-themed goodies available, I embarked on a mission to create my own and my online shop was born.
Since then, I've immersed myself in the world of literature, attending Book Festivals and events across the UK. Inspired by my adventures and encouraged by the enthusiastic response from fellow Brontë enthusiasts on social media, I decided to share my experiences through UA-cam videos.

What a special place. Thank you for taking us along. I can see this would likely be the Thornfield Hall to Charlotte. How exciting. And how pleased I sm you came up on my feed. I will be binge watching more now.
Thank you so much, it's so nice to think people are interested and watching my videos. I have plenty more adventures coming up.
Beautiful to see, with the classic music at the background. 😊💐 Thank you.
Thank you, thank you for finding this house and bringing us closer to Charlotte and her Jane.
Thank you too for joining me, I was so excited to go look around and am tempted to go back before the end of the summer.
A fascinating video. I can see how Charlotte would have been inspired by the hidden staircase.
Very lovely and exceptionally well made. When you were about to walk the path in the garden and mentioned that you were going to read poetry....you said to Charlotte and I thought you were about to say....to Mr. Rochester. That's how real you made it. thank you.
Surely Charlotte would've been inspired by this place ❤❤ Thank you so much for showing us around. 🙏 😊
I hope so, she was a sponge and would take all these stories and experiences in.
Thanks for the tour! Beautiful house and garden.
Thank you for watching.
What treat! Your presentation style is both polished and friendly . Bless you! Watching from Canada
This is very likely where she got her inspiration from. What fun! A hidden staircase. ❤
I hope it is. I wish I could have gone up to look for myself. Might see what I can sort out for the future.
Oh yes I do think that this definitely could be the inspiration for Thornfield Hall. It is absolutely beautiful - and the gardens too!! I was so relaxed looking at it - and you have a calming voice. Thank you so much for this. I have always wanted to visit Bronte Country. I first read Jane Eyre at school and then just had to read Wuthering Heights. Thank you. See you next video 📚😊
Welcome and I am so pleased you enjoyed the video. I spent hours in the garden, long after everyone else had gone. It was beautiful and, strange as it sounds, I felt like I was being watched and any minute I would see a child peeping out from behind a bush. Not in a scary way either. I have so many ideas for videos so I hope you like them.
Kate, what an amazing video, thank you so much! I had goose-bumps thinking about the inspiration for Thornfield Hall, for Charlotte Bronte. I LOVE your presentation, and am impressed by your walking-and-talking -skills! Absolutely loved this and will watch again, and again. Beautiful countryside-your enthusiasm and passion are captivating! love sue
ps more please!!
Thank you. I am still mastering the walking and talking, I do bump into things when I do it though, at my age too! Plenty more videos coming so I hope you enjoy them just as much as I enjoy making them.
Thank you so much for this video..Jane and Mr. Rochester will be etched on my mind till death..keep bringing such amazing videos..loads of love from India🇮🇳
Wow, India, I can't get over how far and wide people who view my videos are. I am so glad you like it and I have so many ideas for more videos.
Well , that's a beautiful and enchanting place that is really worth the visit ! Thank you !
I'll be staying not far from Rippon next summer for a few days ,it would be great to see Norton Cornyers indeed.
You must try and get there, it's defiantly worth a visit and the house is so homely that you feel more like a guest than a tourist.
@@brontesistersuk I most certainly will.
Thank you for this.
It looks like the Thornfield in the Timothy Dalton version. My favorite .
In the US, we tear down a house before its a 100 years old, if that. This is amazing !
Thank you for coming along with me, it felt a very homely house.
That's a great place. I like that it's been left alone pretty much and isn't all renovated and modernized. I can believe that was the inspiration for Thornfield.
You can tell it is very much their home. I loved that there was a mix of the families history then modern object that they use everyday.
It would be nice,to think this house, was the inspiration for thornfield hall..it's beautiful interior.with so much history. Like, all your videos..excellent narration, music goes well with video..and lve learnt so much. Thank you...
Thank you so much, I really try to get as much across whilst making it visually interesting. I am no expert, I just love history and especially the Brontë's history.
Absolutely Beautiful!
Thank you was watching, it's a lovely house and even nicer in the sun.
Thank you very much.
Greetings from Argentina.
Wow, I hope you enjoyed visiting a corner of Yorkshire.
I had never heard the story of where Charlotte Bronte got the inspiration for Thornfield Hall and, in particular, the side story of "the crazy woman in the attic room," which I have always felt was an ingenious, Gothic touch to her book. Great video here.
Thank you, I was fascinated by the story and had to go myself and find out. Love a bit of gothic.
Thank you for showing the house and the coincedences seem to be what inspired Charlotte for Janes story, I only watched it last week, so enjoyed this video.
Welcome, hope you enjoy some of my other video. Loved making this one, I think because they only open a few days a year it made it feel extra special.
So glad I found your channel! New sub! I absolutely love the way you shot tbis, and thank god the camera didn’t pick up the aeroplane. Will watch the rest of your other content in the meantime. 🙏🏽
Thank you and welcome. It's great to have you along. Let me know if there is anything you would love to see on my channel.
Great video, very interesting. I love The Bronte Sisters and hit the subscribe button because of the lovely video. Thanks! I'm gong to explore your other video's now.
Thank you for your kind words and welcome. I have lots more adventures coming up so I hope you enjoy them too.
They’re making hay in Thornfield meadows.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮
It's crazy isn't but the place is so interesting, wish I could have see through some of the other doors.
Thornfield had battlements and a roof that could be walked on. If's a very central part of the story. This place has no battlements.
Plus there is NO hard evidence CB ever went there, is there?
I know, evidence is hard to come by.
However, one must allow the author to create different details from her inspiration to assist in her story.
Just because Norton Conyers has no battlements does not disallow it from being Charlotte's inspiration.
One feature, the staircase, and then the family tale of the madwoman in the attic, might easily have been her starting points.
The fact that the brother of her employers owned the property makes it not unlikely that even if she hadn't visited she could have heard the story.
A creative author with imagination doesn't need a complete replica to enhance a story, they add and subtract as well as invent to suit their needs.
I quite accept the notion that this house might have been at least the inspiration for Jane Eyre.
Thank you for finding the link, tenuous as it might possibly appear on the surface. Well done! 😊👍
Lovely home
It is a home isn't it, not just a show house.
