FRAGRANCE UPDATE: this vanda has dropped that spike in this video... And now has two large spikes coming along! 😂. The fragrance has no resemblance to the fruity, rich fragrance of Merrillii... None at all. It smells very similar to a Vanda Batram that l used to grow a long time ago. Sharp floral, sweet undertones with a hint of that pine - like tang. Not a gourmand sugary candy note at all .. as expected and seen on merrillii. It very well may be part Denisoniana too 😂. We shall never know....
Ohh that’s a beauty! I love the yellow!!! I have a Sandra Gail Hatos x tessallata that I got last year NBS. Hoping it flowers this year and also hoping it’s fragrant :) Zone 6 here also and I grow my Vandas in pots… IMO thriving potted Vandas takes more skill :) and I totally agree! You have to find a growing style that compliments your care environment!
Completely agree with you regarding growing methods! You grow your plants beautifully, they are obviously happy. I know you do your research. Pay no mind to people who just have to express their opinion. Besides, even though our environments are different, it is very helpful to hear from creative people like you because I can get IDEAS vs dictates on the “proper” way to grow yada yada yada🙄. THANK YOU for the super helpful, and just generally lovely, videos😁
So glad I wasn’t the only one, i was wondering why my V. Gregg Scott is blooming pure yellow (I also got mine from Plantino la Orquidea). I have doubts about the parentage of my plant - even if the tessellata parent used were the alba form, it would be difficult to breed a line full of bright yellows when the other parent is supposed to be merrillii. More likely the whole cross was mislabeled. I wonder if it might be denisoniana x tessellata….
@@lliu25 and l agree about the mislabeling. I even emailed them to suggest as such but .... Got nowhere. Ahhh, sigh 😏. My quest for a lovely, glossy FRAGRANT red.... Continues.
@@Misslou2425 Same here, on a quest for dark red vanda with strong pleasant fragrance. I am sorry the seller didn’t/couldn’t make it right for you. I am still considering whether to contact them or just let it go. Mislabeled plants are no big deal and normally I am pretty forgiving--but yours and mine had previously bloomed (several times) before they were sold, so the nursery would have noticed the blooms are not of V. Greg Scott - before selling the plants. Website list shows dark form “parents” 🤔- be a miracle to get bright yellow blooms with parentage like that. Clearly mislabeled. (Or else we got miracle plants 😅)
I purchased a new cattleya cross, not bloom yet. Hope it will look like my expectation. 😊Sometimes they do give surprise! Can you share where u ordered your special vanda plants?

@@lliu25 definitely looks nothing like all the sites that sell this cross, says it should. Thankfully it smells nice though 🤣

@@yingzheng782 sure! Will say where l got each one in my next video!
Buongiorno, ho visto la Vanda nel vaso di argilla che substrato hai usato? Grazie 😊
Purtroppo non capisco la tua lingua
I am sorry. I will add captions if l can. What language do you speak? Seems like Italian...?
