    Mine is slightly different (smaller model) it has three tabs instead of two. Two in the front and one in the middle. It works fine. I had trouble with a store-bought super8 tourist movie. All homemade movies are coming out fine. It seems the problem you pointed out has been corrected.

    I just learned about these machnes today and ordered the wrong one (the small one,) at Amazon, but I realized my error and went back and spent the extra $30 for the Big Boy. (the majority of my reels are 7".) When you're already in for $230, what's and extra $30 to go deluxe?

    Will this machine transfer a regular 8mm film with damaged sprocket holes? Even a film with no sprocket holes at all in some sections?

    • @allcheckout
      @allcheckout  2 роки тому +1

      The sprocket holes are essential for transporting the film. If they are not in perfect condition any more it won't work sadly. Maybe a PRO studio has some alternate solution

    One user of the Wolverine in another forum claims it is good for maybe 30 3"reels before parts wear out and registration is gone because of cheap plastic parts. Can I ask how many reels or feet you have scanned?

      @@fiendishthingy1630 Yes - just lately testa a Kedoc, but it was a slide/film scanner and not a 8mm scanner, but quality looked about the same. This is how China production works ... hence very difficult to find out what's really under the "hood"

    hi! I'm close to buy a film scanner, also thanks to your video, but I still have a couple of doubts:
    1) there's a version similar to the one in your video, but it's all black and it costs twice.... do you know the difference?
    2) some reviews on your scanner say that the pivots don't spin, and film gets scretched.... is it true?
    Thanks!!!

    • @allcheckout
      @allcheckout  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for asking, but very sorry to have to say it's crazy what these sellers do. They change their models and listings almost every day. I don't understand. There are good models and very bad models and they are even almost at the same price. As a rule of thumb if you're not sure - go with the biggest brand name as long as it's a PRIME listing - the "Wolverine". The pivot spin is usually a bit of a problem with both of the models I've tested, but at the end it worked with both of them. You just have to try around a little bit with the position of the reel. If you push it all the way back then it's usually not working - that's correct. Despite of all the changes with models and listings I'd go today with this model: amzn.to/34ODcie. Sorry for not being able to help more in detail.

    SO, you recommend Wolverine in one video, but Eyesen in another video. I have also looked at the DigitNow brand... the specs on all three are all very similar, operation and reel size. Are they all made by the SAME company and then a different brand name slapped on them???

    • @allcheckout
      @allcheckout  Рік тому

      Sorry ... I really don't know what they are doing. They seem to destroy their own business on purpose. They change the listings every couple of weeks so I can't keep track with the links and recommendations. They really give me a headache. The only thing I can say is, buy the Wolverine with the moveable arm so you can even scan larger reels (it seems that's also the one with the good quality tracking mechanism), even when it's a bit more expensive: amzn.to/3FhPiyK. Currently it's a bit cheaper when you order fast.

  • @skaardd
    @skaardd 2 роки тому +4

    Tried both of those, they suck, registration is awful, they use crappy cameras and my scanner produces 4K 16bit dpx raw scans of super8, 8mm, 9.5mm and 16/s16 at 8-12fps with no overscan. But you can lease it for really cheap compared to the cost of getting pro scans from fotokem if you have a big library and you can learn how to use the machine correctly. There’s a lot you can do from the scanner side to fix things like color imbalances and exposure especially in faded film, and it takes some finesse.

      Sounds like a Cintel scanner? Let me just see if I can find £22k haha. Seriously though, you're right that these wolverine type scanners do basically suck. Absolutely bonkers that they don't put better cameras in them. Seriously, if they just stuck a decent camera and a couple more options they would be *perfect* for regular users. Instead we now have a nation of people scanning their reels in pretty awful quality - I really hope they keep the originals so when something better comes along (and hopefully it will, eventually) they can get them done properly.
