    People like you that take the time and effort to produce simple, straight forward and clear videos without any irritating music or rambling intros are the backbone of a civilised society and all other UA-camrs would do well to take note of how tutorials are done properly like this one. Thank you!

    Well done video! I have the service manual for my ZX10R and it’s nice to not only read the service manual, but reaffirm what I’ve read with an instruction video. You actually made it simpler to understand and some of the illustrations in the service manual can be hard to decipher, especially with my 40+ year old eyes.

    and... you need to make sure to use a torque wrench and properly torque the engine mounts to factory specifications or risk the frame cracking. This was the issue from the factory with these. The engine mount bolts were being over-torqued.

    Good video, thanks. I also own a zx10r 2004 and I was wondering what was the mileage of your bike when you did this adjustment, and how long it had been since the previous valve adjustment? My bike is almost at 20000km and the maintenance schedule says it's supposed to have a valve adjustment at 24000km so I'm wondering if it's really necessary or if I can do it a little bit later since I only ride it on roads

    First of all thank you for this video. I am doing my valve clearance check on my ZX-10R 2006 gen2 with 28500kms on the clock. It should be the first check. The thing i notice is that all of my exhaust valves are too tight. These are my measurements:
    Ex: (0.11 0.13) (0.15 0.13) (0.15 0.13) (0.16 0.16)
    In: (0.16 0.20) (0.16 0.16) (0.15 0.16) (0.16 0.16)
    Is it normal that I have to reshim all my exhaust valves?

  • @steve23464
    @steve23464 4 роки тому

    This is what gets me. As the valve seat wears away, the clearances get tighter. If you're on the tight side of the clearance, but technically not out of spec say. 016 and the spec is .015 you know it won't be long before it's runs too tight. But the shims only come in . 05 increments if you buy a kit. So would you wait and run the risk of being tight or just put in the new shim and be a bit off on the other side of the allowable clearance? I have an 05 zx10r and know what a lengthy process this is as I've done it twice now and due for another(82,675 miles). I know you can purchase individual shims to hit the middle clearance but that can get expensive.

    • @everydayirace
      @everydayirace  4 роки тому

      I keep mine at the middle to looser side of the clearance specs.

      82k miles that's pretty impressive Steve, have you ever had any issues with the frame cracking? I want one of these bikes but that problem seems quite common, it's worrying.

    • @steve23464
      @steve23464 3 роки тому +1

      @@0x7FFFFFFFFFFF About to turn 100k miles in a few days. I would say without a doubt buy it. I've had absolutely zero major issues with mine and I bought it used in 2013 with 18k miles on it. As long as it wasn't stunted or excessively wheelied the frame should be fine. I believe they only cracks when landing to hard. So far the only thing I've replaced is the fuel pump and that turned out to be a short in the loom not the pump. Adjusted the valves twice, due for another I suppose. Everything else besides consumables is stock engine wise. I put an 08 swingarm on and 2010 cbr1000rr calipers. Master cylinder from a 08 zx10r.

    • @0x7FFFFFFFFFFF
      @0x7FFFFFFFFFFF 3 роки тому

      @@steve23464 100k that is so cool! The one I'm looking at only has 9.4k and is bone stock, no stunting or wheelies so I might be OK. I did hear that changing out the master cylinder and calipers can transform the bike. Did you also keep the stock gearing? Cheers Steve

    • @steve23464
      @steve23464 3 роки тому

      @@0x7FFFFFFFFFFF I wouldn't say it 'transformed' the braking on the bike. Braided brake lines and good pads go a long way though. I've had stock gearing since about a year ago and thought I'd try lowering it a bit. Went -1 up front and +1 in the rear. No noticeable difference except on the highway its a bit snappier. That small of a change isn't worth the speedo error though I'll prb go back to stock next change. A couple of teeth front and rear would make a huge difference but I find the power quite adequate as is lol. Good luck if you decide to purchase it.
