I think its so important to stay in the now, stay current, and not be stuck in old ways. I feel like this past year I've been personally victimized by Joanna Gaines and the farmhouse/rustic neutral trend. I've lost myself in a sea of rattan but I'm slowly starting to introduce more pops of color/contrast. You've really helped my re-cultivate my own style, so thanks for these videos! 👌🏼

Yass. Some of us hate the farm. We don't want cheap gavonailized metal throughout our kitchens. We want color and art and drapes without layered ruffles.
"Modern farmhouse" is the tackiest decor trend since the 90s when we put up wallpaper borders in every room. Everyone is decorating their condos and townhomes like some strange, fantasy version of rural. What confuses me the most is that there are so many rustic details from ACTUAL farmsteads/country cottages that are totally ignored? Instead it's all grey shiplap, weird barn doors and the same 3 light fixtures over and over.
@@Nse204 I HATE barn doors. They are not private and the amount of wall space they take up is ridiculous.
My entire home is royal core and it’s a giant pain in the ass to create (thrifting for years and years & stenciling walls and so on) BUT it’s so worth it! I may be poor but I feel like a royal when I’m in my home 🥰

I feel you 😭, my taste is Victorian era, mixed with a wee touch of steampunk here and there. It’s very hard to find affordable authentic items but when you do, they make great focal points or conversation pieces. It’s kinda refreshing not to have cookie cutter trends or styles.
I appreciate when you explained that the reason Royal Core is potentially a bad trend being that it's very difficult to do well. It's not that it's necessarily a bad style, it's just very easily...awful lol Thanks for the video, always love! :)
and then there is design style: CHAOS. When each of these beautiful design concepts pull you in and you gather random shit with no cohesion ☹️
i think if you sit down and figure out a way to do so that you can hybridize design styles effortlessly with the right pieces layouts and architecture. It might take more work but it will feel more natural than having a house all in one specific style

Rustic nouveau! That’s as close to my style as anything I’ve seen. The house we are building has a stone fireplace, lots of wood, granite and earth-colored tiles. I love creamy neutrals and we’ve just ordered a moss-colored couch and two mushroom swivel chairs. I will have to let me son know my style is “rustic nouveau,” because he’s been calling it “obnoxious modern hippie.” 🤣

I love the nature inspired colors! It's crazy, but I've always enjoyed the warmth of the browns and greens. I once had a couch that we called the big green couch. Best couch I ever had. I have not enjoyed the farmhouse look very much at all. I started to go in that vein and hated it immediately. Bring on the greens and the browns! There is a wall paint called Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams. It's to die for!
Have been English country style practically all my life, which is now the trendy grandmillennial, and thank you for giving it a 9 out of 10 because it is beautiful, and cultured, and historical. I continue to change and refine it to keep it fresh, but the underlying idea is my passionate love, and not at all a trend.
I'm so pumped for the forest/nature colors! They can be so challenging to find when they aren't en vogue. I could literally have every piece of furniture colored in loden. I've also been wanting limewash for a long time, but didn't know what it was called. So happy that's coming back too!
I love how you give recommendations for designers to follow! It helps us discover what we like because there are variations even within each style!
I just realized that I have always best a post-modern kinda guys I been designing my own room for a while now and still can’t escape the bold color and unique pieces I find thank you 😊

I ADORE your style and am ever inspired by you but also want to embrace the unique pieces given to me by my family (lots on gorgeous antiques) and leaning into my design instincts. Whatever the trend, great style is great style. Green, nature, Boucle, and warm tones forever!
Fun fact.. postmodern isn't just in art and design and architecture.. these are all influenced by what is called postmodern philosophy. Postmodern philosophy was very big in the 60s through 90s so it's very fitting that the style of furniture that was popular is reflected there. And how ironic that we are now seeing a heavy resurgence in postmodern thought through our culture and political realm in addition to this furniture and design Style
I think some of us are in post post modern (idk what else to call it) where we’re looking for a bit more sincerity and truth again. I still think some of the nihilism of post modern thought is important and I think this search needs to be informed by that but I think it’s time to move forward and find meaning and reason again. Our planet needs us to start caring about it in order to save it instead of being so ironically detached and despondent to even put in the effort.
It’s kind of an ego death scenario where post modernism was an important break away from history and convention (the ego) and destroy these things in order to rebuild ourselves in the divine image and seek true existence again.
@@andreja9425 do you mean reason truth and sincerity in the subjective way or the objective way? In your mind do we need to be heading towards one or the other? And forgive me for asking if this is too bold but what you're saying seems to be a bit gnostic don't you think? Some might say we've had enough religions trying to take over culture and thought. Also, I tend to disagree with most of the postmodernist other than the fact that they predicted that their own thoughts could become a metanarrative .. and not a good one.

OBSESSED with rustic nouveau - I am moving across the country to CA with no furniture and starting FRESH and using this as my design inspo. YOU'RE THE BEST!
My decor style is definitely a combination of all of these, especially rustic luxury, soft post modern and grand millennial. We have some beautiful Venetian plaster in our bathrooms. It's been interesting but since these styles are so similar, it makes them easy to play with each other

I’m with you on the nature colors. My fall/winter capsule wardrobe was browns, creams and earthy reds with earthy greens as a complimentary colors and I was like, ‘I want more of this.’ So I’m revamping my room to be more earthy and elevated.
