Hey man, very good points and inspiring. One big element that adds also to the whole character and vibe is that Kevin uses mostly analogue gear. As a drummer himself this means he pretty much always plays the drum parts in himself (where he already starts sound designing through dampening the drums, micing techniques etc.). The same goes for all the other instruments bass, guitar, synths.. he all plays them in by hand rather than using VST's (mostly). This adds a human element and dynamic that is very hard to replicate digitally. Sometimes you might just hear drums and bass and perhaps a vocal on top and it all works so well because they have GROOVE that give the song a solid foundation. Therefore he doesn't need to add a ton of other elements and can go with "less is more", only adding what's really needed.
