- The answer depends on the type of work permit you have.
You cannot start a business on a closed work permit because self-employment is prohibited on closed-work permits, but it is possible on an open work permit. With that being said, you still have to keep in mind the bigger picture planning if you want to remain eligible for Permanent Residency, if that is your end goal.

Yes, most programs for PR do not accept self-employed experience in Canada as valid for PR purposes.

Yes you can work on a business on an open work permit, all taxes and permits should be respected, small business centres can be helpful in guiding you on this.

I'm on open work permit (PGWP) and I live in Ontario. While registering for business incorporation, it says 25% of the board of directors must be resident of Canada. So can I still register a business or there is any other way to start my business here. Need your guidance.

If you starting a cooperation then you need a Canadian partner but if it is sole proprietor then you dont need it

No remember self employment doesn't count for experience under the Canadian experience class.

Likely yes, but be careful because self-employed work doesn't count for many PR processes.

No, it probably won't help your PR, but on open work permits there is no restriction, you can work for an employer and also have a business.

You can possibly apply for an LMIA or a c10/11 work permit to come to work on the business in Canada.

Yes this is all possible, the person buying the convenience store would need an LMIA, and work experience on a PGWP can be from any Canadian business.

Yes, if you have an open work permit you can start a business. Be mindful of permanent residency requirements.

You need to be careful, if you are entering the labour market and are here earning money, you cannot do it on a closed work permit.

Not if your work permit hours are unrestricted. Keep in mind you usually will also want a job to help you transition to PR.

No, you can do this but just remember the experience does not count for the Canadian experience class because it's self employment so it's best to have employment outside of that to help you with PR.

1) Can an Open-work permit holder open federal business incorporation?
2) Can I use that newly created incorporation for my IT contract jobs?
3) Will there be any issues for my PR application, if I open incorporation on open-work permit
Note - I came to Canada in Dec 27, 2019. And haven’t been to my home country since then. And I do have my full time permanent job, which is being running for almost an year and is continuing as well… I don’t want to show the exp of my contract jobs as primary experience.. Just FYI…

You can open and operate the business but it doesn't count as work experience under the Canadian experience class for Express entry. You can file for an LMIA though once it's operational which will give you 200 points.
@@JadeCalver I don’t want to show that in my express entry profile because I already have a full time permanent job which has been running from a year, so I would like to use that experience under CEC.
