This time we'll take a look at the evolution of the Rainbow Road soundtracks, please enjoy and tell me: What's your favorite theme? :) I personally really like the Gamecube one, but the N64 theme is the most nostalgic for me.
Mariokart 7 is the mst nostalgic for me. I had Mariokart Wii but I never unlocked rainbow road until recently. The theme for Mariokart Wii's rainbow road sounds like someone just sitting back and memories of the past just start flooding them, of better times. Like something you think about before moving on.
I like Rainbow Road because everyone else I play with hates it so I can just frontrun and showoff a bit. And when I play with pros or on 200 is when I take it more seriously
My top 3 are 7, DD then 64. 7 has an emotional effect to it that hits harder than any of the others. It has my favorite environment with all the planets, asteroids and the moon. The music is amazing. DD has my favorite song and the visuals are awesome. I love that you can see Mushroom City below. This track is really exciting 64 is nostalgic even if you never played MK64, like me. It’s the most calming of the bunch and is the most satisfying be on, despite the ridiculous length.
Gamecube brought the biggest glow up imo, in terms of visuals and music, it was such a big improvement, Mario Kart double dash still one of the most iconics and innovative of all, and influenced all next generations even tho (of course) now rainbow roads are much more elaborated, complex and magical
SNES: Legendary (the one that started it all) N64: Iconic (essentially the baseline for all the themes that came after) GBA: Disgraceful (defo not my favorite one of these) GCN: Genius (uses motifs from earlier in the game and wraps it up with the n64 theme) DS: Perfection (literally nothing couldve been better in this theme there is no way to improve it… or is there? Tbh this is a good example of a theme they perfected and then managed to make it better) Wii: Nostalgic (duh) 3ds: Motivic (great use of n64 theme and improved on everything that came before) Wii U: Modern (same as 3ds i just couldnt think of anything else)
all the rainbow roads had one thing in common: a rainbow road floating in empty space. until mario kart 7, when they really took the space theme and went with it and put planets and stuff and driving on the moon. then they took that in mario kart 8 and turned it more into a space station themed thing! I guess they wanted to try something new in mario kart 8 while still having the nostalgia of n64, hence the 3 versions of rainbow road in mk8. (snes, because it happens every 2 games or so. and that amazing remix!!!)
I like this video. I like it a lot. The only complaint I would have is that two of the best RR themes, MK64 and MKDD, got cut a bit short, but for me that's made up for by MK8's rendition of MK64's theme and the fact that my personal favorite, MK7, played a bit longer than the rest. All in all, I'm happy with this video.

Really hope Nintendo gives us a different RR than the SNES one as a retro track in the next Mario Kart. SNES Rainbow Road has been featured 4 different times as a track available in the games. Like Come on, where's the GC RR? Or even GBA?
N64, Wii, and 7 were my favourites for the best music. Why they gave rainbow road a blocky 8-bit theme in 8 deluxe for all 3 of them, I will never understand. It looks better as an actual rainbow in my opinion, not a blocky mess
