Shiekh I'm a self driving car engineer focusing on motion planning AI with experience at some of the top autonomous vehicle companies. I appreciate most of the sentiment in this talk but I have to respectfully disagree with your analysis of the trolley problem. The reality is that these systems don't ever "decide" who lives and who dies. We really mostly focus on minimizing the likelihood of collision with any pedestrian and we would never allow our AI system to waste valuable computation time to differentiate between different kinds of pedestrians.
Great talk otherwise, very much an important topic to keep in mind.

Some people completely live “off-grid” and this’ll have no effect upon them, but those who want be a part of this, must be grounded in Islam, and in reality. So they wisely use it as a tool, and not be harmed by it. Parents must be very careful, because if you don’t hold your kid’s hand, those behind AI will. May Allah SWT protect us from the fetna of Akhiruzaman 🤲. Ameen Ya Rubbulalameen.

Don't fall for the sensationalism of AI technology. Yes, these new tools are useful, i use them every day. But there is so much overyhype in the news.
I would love to read a religious sci-fi book where both Dajjal and Mahdi are going to be 2 competitive AI's influencing the chips in people's brains.

I think it is good that Sheikh has informed that Niche AI will have many positives in medical or driving etc. But it is only logical to identify the ethical problems with any new technology.
Basically we will all become Shaykhs. And I think it will benefit us so much for our Dawah program.
Imagine how many people we could spread out the message of Islam?
I think we will see a lot of non-Muslims convert to Muslim thanks to the AI technology.

While his intentions are good, both the title and lecture convey a negative view of AI. It's important to keep in mind that technology is neutral; its impact depends on how we use it. AI is a world-changing technology, and it’s crucial for Islam and Muslims to approach it with an open mind. We shouldn’t fear AI; instead, we should embrace it, grow with it, and actively participate in its development. Encouraging ourselves to engage with and help train these models is essential for our future.

Actually, I think both the title and the lecture perfectly described your comments as above. The title is merely questioning the influence that this technology will have on our lives and this talk is about rethinking every technology we use as Dunya can't be separated from Deen. There are ethical questions that every technology brings and this is no different. Ours as Muslims is to understand both our religion very well and the technology so as to put them into the best use for the whole world.
I think the shaykh touches on this in the lecture but a focus more on how we should exercise caution bc of the negatives around ai. i agree tho, perhaps its better for us to embrace it as it is going to be an inevitable development but there’s still something eerie about it
I don't think the intention was to portray it as something inherently negative, at least I didn't sense it that way, but rather to bring awareness to what's possibly coming.
Muslims are nowhere near leading this field, and that means whoever is, will inevitably impose their ethics and morals upon the models that might be responsible of how the world is gonna be run in the future. You can already see it by talking to chatgpt for example, how it embodies the western liberal leftist values in many of its responses. But at least we should learn and understand the technology on order to develop a version of it that suits our worldviews.
True no tool is evil but the masses make taqleed of any trend without cross verifying. What has anything that is in control of West is of any benefit to us?

Sheikh can we really stop this for happening? No. AI is the future and it will happen we like it or not. What we need to do is to make it work in our favor. It’s just like social media. After some time we will get used to it.

Artificial intelligence is based on non universal values. It's based on discrimination and Apartheid. One of the contributor influencer behind Artificial intelligence in year 2014 wasn't paid for not being zionist and had nothing in relations with zionism but leaned more Orthodox Judaism Orthodox Jewish people instead.
